Either way, I don't really care about the data that's on the drive, or the hassle to put the data back on the drive, because this takes about 5 minutes of my time (remove connecters, unscrew drive, put in new drive, connect, run shell script), I just care about the drive itself. The data has all been backed up on another drive and on different media.
The fact that I don't have to worry about replacing a drive (with out-of-pocket money) for 5 years instead of 1 year has HUGE peace-of-mind value for me. I don't want to have to spend the thousands of dollars for new drives anytime soon.
I wouldn't rule out MS putting in a re-writeable dvd drive.
Right, so then I can pirate the games using Microsoft's own console? They should put 3 or 4 rewritable drives in there so I can copy the game for my friends at the same time!
Well, at least this company gives you a 5-year warranty (I believe, the site seems to be awfully slow at the moment) on the flash drives. Hard drive manufacturers may give you 3 years, but the majority give you only 1. This tells me that M-Systems is pretty confident that their devices will last.
Maybe now we can get a game like Police Quest, and instead of typing 'Open Door', we can just say it.
The Sierra games really went downhill when they changed from the text-input control to the icons, and this seems like it would be the best of both worlds (assuming it works properly).
Keep in mind that most game pieces come on fry boxes and drink cups, and those drink cups are usually filled with - you guessed it - Coke products.
I think that's exactly the point he was trying to make.. It wouldn't look to good to have Coke (indirectly via McDonalds) copying Pepsi (who were the first ones to give away iTunes under the cap) and start giving away free iTunes, because then it would seem as though Coke isn't very inventive, and that Pepsi's marketing worked better than anything Coke could've come up with.
I'm not a 'Kill your television' fanatic, but I do think it is a big huge timesink.
I agree. It's all because of the fact that you can't really select your own programming (despite the illusion of being able to). I have no cable hooked up to my television, only my computer. If I want to watch a television show or movie, I'll download it or borrow it from a friend..
If I want to watch something, I know in advance, and I watch it when I want to, without commercials, and with pauses whenever I want to.
Without the waiting/surfing for something to come on, television is not so much of a timesink.
Pipe Sequence for 8-4 Memorized?? Hell, I just always go down the tube right after the lava (except for the first one) and after 3 or 4 tubes I'm finished the game.
It's not so hard to finish the game in 1 life under 15 minutes, and I do it all the time when I have some time to waste, but shaving it down to 5 minutes is crazy..
Just becuase they look funny doesn't mean the feel and play great.
Umm, did you mean to say 'Just because they look funny doesn't mean they feel and play great?' or 'Just because they look funny doesn't mean they don't feel and play great?'? I assume the latter..
Either way, I hate the way the analog stick on the Nintendo feels.. just too flimsy.. Not only that, but my friends with Gamecubes have had to replace all their controllers at least once, because the analog stick just stops auto-centering.. Not that I haven't seen this happen to playstation controllers, but it doesn't seem to happen as much.
Why do the companies feel the need to change controllers all the time? You get used to a playing with a freaking crazy-weird X-Box controller, use it for a couple of years, and then WHAM!, now there's a new crazy-weird X-Box 2 controller.
Where do you live that you have a small claims court open at quarter to six in the morning? Doesn't seem like anywhere in the USA or Canada, which may cause unforeseen errors in our legal advice.
You know, I could see something like this catching on in the US, etc.. People with lower incomes or who don't have fast Internet, or just cheap-ass people like me, etc..
But, I'm so cheap I just play free MUDs and door games...
Nintendo plays it safe for the most part. The GameCube continues a long tradition of building a good, reliable console that plays games. Plain and simple.
I agree here. I wouldn't buy a GameCube as a primary console, but if I had children under 12 or 14 who were into gaming, the GameCube would probably be my choice. Many GC games are educational, non-violent, entertaining, and look good.
Also, it's way cheaper than any of the other systems.
So when I pay $35 for a spindle of 100 CDRs, I'm really only paying $14 for the CDs, and $21 for the levy? That's a sweet deal. If I'm buying them outside of Canada, do I still have to pay the levy, or is it like taxes and it can be removed?
Maybe Pepsi decided that they wanted to do something good for these poor poor people who were sued, and decided to create an ad and pay the actors however much money they lost to RIAA.
Whether they are impossible or not, they are certainly unnecessary. As long as you get the DAC outside the computer case, a decent 24-bit DAC will work fine. I have an ART D/IO (cheap, but very decent external DAC) hooked up to my soundcard, and it makes a huge difference.
If you used slashdot@davidcole.net, and got e-mail to that address, how would you know whether slashdot sold the address, or whether someone figured it out from the obfuscated address (if you actually used them that is)?
If you really need to, you can use a couple of those thin pieces sideways to put two male pieces together.. The thin pieces fit almost perfectly between the male bumps, and the bumps on the sideways thin piece will prevent it from moving back and forth..
Yes, unless it's an IBM that is...

Someone throw there Mutant Ninja Lawyers on you armed with patents.
Sorry, I think you meant the Teenage Mutant Ninja Lawyers.
(3 things) analog stick is too loose, rubbery surface gives no grip for your thumb, lacks the 8-way "insert" found on the Nintendo sticks
You should really check out a PS2 or PSone controller. They solve just about every one of those 3 problems.

Bah, I just use LSD when I want to "feel" or "manipulate" things.. Plus, those chips don't seem cheap or very safe.
You know, I could see something like this catching on in the US, etc.. People with lower incomes or who don't have fast Internet, or just cheap-ass people like me, etc..

What about XOL? I was looking for a nice Live CD the other day, and found XOL. Haven't tried it out yet, but it looks pretty decent.

In the meantime join the boycott of Quebecor by not purchasing the Sun papers in your neighbourhood.
Why? Just for the hell of it? And miss out on the Sunshine girl? Not when I can get the paper for free with my McDonald's breakfast in the morning.
Also, I wouldn't be suprised if the V10 in the Viper was aluminum, and the V10 in the truck was cast-iron.
That, and massive camshaft (and some head) differences to make less horsepower and more torque in the truck.

32bit DACs are impossible.

I just paid $100 CDN (after mail in rebate, but from Future Shop, owned by Best Buy) for a 160 Gig drive.
Sure, you'd need 7 of them, but you'd end up with 1120 Gigs, and it would only cost you $700 CDN, or about $550 USD.
Throw in a cheap computer with a Gigabit ethernet card, or some Firewire controllers, and you're still way under their price.
Either double-male or double-female..

You only waited 3 hours? You got it lucky, I've been waiting 10 years for a guide on how to use DOSEMU.
