Come on, this is no leverage abusing. This is a Microsoft solution to a Microsoft problem for Microsoft based software. The only thing I see here is company giving cross-platform tools for all the platforms it supports. You can always use something else to make your own cross-plaform games (as in PS2/GC/Xbox cross platform).
Has anyone complained when Microsoft released MSDEV.net and said you'd be able to write applications for Win9X/ME, WinXP, WinCE, Xbox and what ever other platforms they support with it?

It would be really cool to see this day, but there is one problem though, and it's distribution. All these unknown talents would have to convince theaters that they're as good as WB, Paramount, New Line, Universal, Fox, (not that they are particularly good anyway most of the time...) all these big house names which have been doing movies for a very long while. What we should have is indie theater's where only indie movies play.

I understand what you mean about the set of rails. KOTOR is one of the best RPG experience I've had in years (I'd have to go back to the SNES with Final Fantasy 6 to have as much fun playing an RPG), but I always though that one area that lacked depth in KOTOR was exploration. I mean, there's these huge planets where there is a Starmap on each, nobody has found them in thousand of years, and oddly you always manage to land no more than 15-20 minutes of walk away from it. The locations are a bit too conveninent.

What I'd prefer to see is a mini-serie based on small stories taken from the Silmarion. It would be very character driven, since that's what the a lot of Silmarion's stories are about, not much about CG, as the budgets are not the same, and would keep us occupied for a few months. Plus, watching TV doesn't cost a penny, apart from owning a TV, which everybody does. Unless you get easily manipulated into buying stuff from ads.

  14. Re:The cost argument on Memory Deal Bolsters Xbox 2 HD Removal Rumors · · Score: 1

This would be a very bad idea. Not only can most of the people remember the Sega CD and 32X fiasco, it isn't a good idea to offer an upgrade or a second version of the console. Why?

Take the developers for Sudeki, for Xbox. They use the HD to constantly stream data from the DVD to the HD to allow a seamless experience with zero load times, except well, when you boot up the game. You can run around for hours without having a single loading time when entering dungeons, palaces, cities, etc. If the HD was not standard, then most developers wouldn't implement this feature since most fo the companies would want to maximize profits.

Personally, I don't mind if the console costs 30$ more. For a 4-5 year investment, it isn't that much. People never seem to think much in the long run. How many more memory cards would I have had to buy if there wasn't an HD in the Xbox? How good would games like KOTOR or Halo have been if I had to dedicate a whole memory card (OR MORE!) to a single game?

  19. Ah.... come on people!!! on Xbox Live Feature Upgrades Include Online Storage? · · Score: 5, Insightful

Why does people even think that the Xbox Next would actually have savegames on a remote location? This is such a ridiculous idea. I mean, games would take a lot longer to load and save, especially around 8 o'clock in the evening when everybody is playing. It would totally kill backward compatibility if there is any. Not only online games couldn't be playable when your Internet connection is down, but offline games too. And you'd definitely need broadband to have a somewhat acceptable performance. Games like KOTOR would be impossible (savegames are over 8 megs!).

People writing these articles really need to get a clue.

Recently I've tried out Project Gotham Racing, and it's a truly original racing game. Ninja Gaiden is coming out in two weeks and is exclusive to the Xbox. That should put your mind to rest until Sudeki (June) and Halo 2 (autumn). And then there's non-exclusive games like Starcraft Ghost coming out soon, and a bunch of others I don't remember.

You know what. I have moderator points right now and I was debating about either writing your post offtopic or answering back to you.

First of all, while I agree that the page displays not correctly under Mozilla (I have 1.6, and the links are messed up, and the layout as well), I viewed the same page with KDE 3.2.0 Konqueror's and everything is fine. So before crying like a baby about broken webpages, ask yourself if the web page displays in another browser that also support standards. What do you know, maybe Opera and Mozilla both share a bug? Is that too far fetched for you? As I recall, a few years ago, almost every TCP/IP stack could be brought down to it's knee's with a single ping command, so maybe Opera and Mozilla could share a similar bug. Konqueror and IE doesn't, for some reason. are you implying that Konqueror is not following standards?

Second, what does your post mean anyway? If you have to cry like a baby because some asshole web developper didn't code a webpage according to standards, then you should not point the finger at the Academy, but at the developpers and the people responsable for the web pages, NOT the board members who took their time and stutied all these games and thought about who should deserve recognition.

If you actually had taken the time to go through the nominations you'd see that they aren't bogus at all and there was a certain amount of thinking involved in nominating these games. Sure, indie games are missing but hey, true indie movies aren't very prominent in the Oscar's too. One step at a time.

I get your point, but for me, this winter has been pretty bad for me when it comes to games I wanted to buy. First I though I'd get Ninja Gaiden on November, but it got pushed back. So I thought, well, I could go and buy Sudeki on January 6th. Well, it got pushed back once at April first, than June 1rst. When I saw that Sudeki was pushed back. I though, hey, Alias is coming out in January right? Nope, pushed back to april I think. Well, I might play with that X-Files game coming out called Resist or Serve. Nope, pushed back a few weeks at the end of February. So now, X-Files, Ninja Gaiden and Starcraft Ghost all come out in a 3 week window. (well, ebGame says so, and there not that reliable, so what do I really know?) I'm pretty sure I won't buy at least one of these game now, since I don't buy a gazillion (or 3 for that matter) games every month.
