Seriously. Let's all code in Python, Java or Erlang. Then render stuff like the special effects in LOTR or composite scenes with 4k media with motion blur and a few keyers thrown into the mix. In realtime. Yeah, right...
I mean, why not 5.1? Most people these days have 2.0 or 5.1 sound cards, not 4.0. Isn't the goal of software to sell hardware? So make it 5.1 or even 7.1. Oh, and put the lead voice in the central speaker. So I can shut it off and have decent karaoke parties without resorting to midis or expensive DVDs with 15 songs on them.
Why don't they make a show featuring the caracters of a game? And I'm talking about the horrible cartoons a few years ago based on Mario, Sonic and Zelda. OR the Nintendo guy that used his NES Zapper as a weapon? With cheap reallife actors and cartoons mixed together. How about a retelling of Final Fantasy 6 as a 24 episode TV show? I'm sure there are quite a few games that would make fine TV shows.
Or instead of doing that, don't base your show on any game. Just hire a few writters from a company who makes games (Bioware, Square-Enix comes to mind) and ask them to write any story for a TV show that in spirit is similar to a story in one of their games. Kinda like Square did with FF:The Spirits Within. Big sci-fi movie with FF influence and FF-type caracters.
But make it better.;) And no dating sims TV shows.
Indicently, that's probably why I liked so much the first Resident Evil movie. Based on the events of the game, retold the story differently but kept it about the same thing : blowing up zombies. That's why I liked it. Well, that and Mila Jojovich.
Well, yeah... I guess you've got a point there. I'm more used to video, the highest video resolution are 4k Panavision (or is it cinevision? they all look like the same name to me:p). 30 frames per second of that is a bandwidth killer, but one frame at a time is not stressfull at all on the system. I was more thinking along those lines when I said 32 bit floats all the way. But I guess that some people do need to work on 20k wide images.
I mean, as professionnal users are getting more and more savvy about things like HDR, 16 bit unsigned int is ridiculous. And if the poster meant 16 bit half floats, no processor handles these natively and they're way too slow. Since we're only dealing here with single frames and not video, why not do 32 bit floats all the way. Sure you end up using more memory, but this way you can deal with High Dynamic Range images. Also, filters become a lot simpler to write and you don't have to worry about funky int arithmetics on pixels. It may not be as fast as a purely integer solution, but properly written code that uses SSE2 or whatever SIMD instruction set your processor handles will get you as much speed as you need. Anyway, profesionnals are expecting more and more quality from their filters, and are willing to make compromises on speed.
People are ascribing far too much importance to objects that lack inherent meaning While I'm not a hardcore Christian (sometimes not Christian at all), I don't think that saying that the symbol of the man who suffered a lot to wash us from our sins lacks an inherent meaning... It's THE most important symbol of the Christian religion, and is expected to be respected as much as a country flag, maybe even more. As are other religious symbols from other religions.
But anyway, this whole thing is ridiculous. I like when games and movies uses religion to create a better setting for the story. As long as it's done in an artistic manner, I don't mind.
it, wears a full-black outfit (not uncommon for a Japanese game) and looks like a priest
In the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there was a caracter called The Priest who worshipped an entity called the First Evil, or something like it. He was dressed as a normal priest also. He was a pretty neat caracter if you ask me. Might be one of the best vilain the show ever carried. I've never heard anyone complain about his striking ressemblance to a real priest. But then, I don't live in the US and here in Quebec (Canada), people don't care much about religion. Well, people under 50 at least.
I mean, I suppose this thing could also help some games to cope with slowdowns and over the top particle effects like in Golden Sun. Unless the graphics chip is the limitation.
And don't forget the HD version a couple of months afterwards, without the new added scenes, because the media is too small. And then 2 years later, the VHD (Very High Definition) version, which is on the new GDVD format, with the added scenes, but then it's the alien who shoots first in Episode 4.
By experience, I found that while the Intel compiler generates faster code, there are quite a few thigns that are broken in it where it sometimes crashes, compiles code that shouldn't be compilable, while MSVC gives an error as expected. Or literally generates bad code. Try debugging that! For speed, always compile with Intel. But for standards compliance, I've come to the conclusion that compiling with MS's 2003 compiler is a good thing just to make sure the code you write is compliant with the standards.
Well look no further then : Eon of Tears I don't know if the game will ever come out one day, but hey, it's part what you suggested. Tough you seem to be playing the good guys.
Once I installed Virtual PC for Windows and then I installed Windows inside the Virtual PC. Afterwards, I tried installing Virtual PC inside the Virtual PC environment. Everything went fine, but when I ran Virtual PC inside Virtual PC, it said : "Virtual PC will not run inside another instance of Virtual PC. You just had to try it, didn't you?"
On the other hand you can run Bochs inside Bochs inside Bochs inside Bochs inside Bochs and so on and so on, since it's 100% emulation.
The you musn't have played any Golden Sun games or Fire Emblem, Mario and Luigi. Ok, come tothink of it, there' s pattern here, being that these are all RPG's, but still, they're not finger-twiching games. And all these games have tremendous success.
Yeah, but why go with 512MB flash ram when you could get an HD with a whole lot ore storage for the same price. They could sign a deal to get 20 gig 5200RPM HDs. They must be 20$ worth these days. Buy that and put in the Xbox. Unless console size is really important. If you're looking to save money, then there's no point in buying flash RAM. It costs more for less.
Seriously. Let's all code in Python, Java or Erlang. Then render stuff like the special effects in LOTR or composite scenes with 4k media with motion blur and a few keyers thrown into the mix. In realtime. Yeah, right...
Performance DOES matter in a LOT of places.

Anyone checked that out?
Everquest. Popular culture. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Lara Croft yeah, she is now. But Everquest?

Some people are already using GPUs for things like Seti@home and collision detection in games, so yeah, why not?
I don't think being proud of your achievements is being arrogant.

Sorry, wasn't aware of that.
Gamespot had this rating system for years now... Even the gold medal thingy.

Now I can turn my Gameboy Advance into a GameCube controller!!!
Oh, wait...
Also, at these temps, chances are you book will burn!!!
two-bit videogame company
Actually it's 8-bit.

... if games like Dr Mario are not driving doctors to prescribe more and more medecine. :)
Or FORWARD compatible, meaning the could play on the original Xbox. ;)

I was XNA as Xbox DNA. So I didn't think it was too abusive of the letter.
