This is true of other countries as well. I had to get a return ticket to enter the Philippines, then call and cancel (well, postpone) the return once I got there.
Depends what the patent is for. All they've done is strip off the existing lossless compression and applied a different compression algorithm. If that's what the patent is for, HELL NO. If it is for their particular algorithm, whatever.
"It won't index Entourage and that's simply due to the way that Spotlight was made versus Entourage," said Erickson. "Entourage saves everything in a database format and we are working with Apple to see how Spotlight can index the database."
This is technically simple -- Microsoft needs to write an Entourage importer for Spotlight. I'm sure it will get done, although who knows if it will be in time for the release of Tiger?
I've been in the Philippines for a few months. It's actually not all that bad. I find myself wanting reliable Internet service -- especially email and IM -- much more.
You should say "Music sharing is bad in some countries." In other countries -- which use the same networks -- a portion of our taxes go towards paying the monopolies. Plus extra levies, like a dollar per CD. In those countries, internet music sharing has been found completely legal and even ethical. I've paid hundreds of dollars in creative taxes over the years...
Jaguar performs perfectly well with 128MB on a G4 @ 800MHz. I discovered this when a memory module in our build machine died. It was not as fast as once I upgraded it to 384 MB, but it wasn't bad.
Not sure about Panther. Not because I don't use it, but because that machine wasn't upgraded.

The Royal Tannenbaums is in the list at all? I have to agree, he's a complete dumbass, but not for the reasons you think.:)

So who runs the server, then? Wish was intended to support 10,000 simultaneous players per world. That sort of bandwidth is not cheap.
In the same vein, a personal computer is a pre-requirement for portable computers. The list seems to be bsased on impact, rather than any kind of requirement tree.
Not really. The top half is just a cover; there's no electronics inside. (That was part of the article I wrote on the 6th that was finally rejected yesterday.)
Well said. Assuming the workers are talented... and why are you keeping them employed if they're not?... the more management interferes, the slower a project goes and the more likely it is to fail.
Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with using more formal methodologies. But when the goal is a completed project and a working product, make sure you're using your tools towards the goal instead of against it.
I'm going to jump in here and make some more enemies, I guess:
I don't think there is a problem with it. On the other hand, I don't think being opposed to it makes one a bigot. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and since he isn't attempting to justify slavery or anything -- he's just saying it's a sin, and accordint to the bible, he's right -- I have no fault with it. What's wrong with hating the sin, as long as you don't hate the sinner or treat them as a nonperson?

Mixed resolutions? The MC6847 did this long before the Amiga, and I doubt it was the first chip to do so.
"Why are you doing the hokey pokey?"
"I'm trying to call a taxi."
I noticed the Microsoft ICQ point, too. Seems like the reporter made a mistake there. I'm also not sure the term "honeypot" is appropriate.

It will.

Har. The slahdot effect is a rounding error on this one.

I was looking for that response in this thread. I'm surprised it took so long. :)

Don't forget that certain (valid!) CSS sequences can actually crash the browser out.
Corporations don't decide who to prosecute. This is a civil case, not a criminal one. We don't even know yet what kind of damages Apple is seeking.
See Brooks' Law.
Wow. Great summary.
I don't mean to pick on you; this seemed an ideal place to post this mini-rant.
Just like "it works for me" is the biggest excuse for defects in software, "personal taste" is the biggest excuse in interfaces.
Interface design may not be a completely solved problem yet, but we certainly know a lot of things not to do by now.

Oh, I'll grant you there's lots of that, too...
Sigh.
Still if OSC can keep it straight, I see no reason to start building gallows for him just yet.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just amused by it all. :)
Remember Bill Gates' public vision a few yeas ago about Windows everywhere? It looks like it is coming true.
...except Itanium.
Oh, and Alpha.
Oh, and PowerPC.
