  1. Re:North Americans on U.S. Insists On Keeping Control Of Internet · · Score: 1

    >> People from other countries sure love our music, movies, toys, etc.... for how much they hate us. Maybe not the most elegant way of phrasing that, but your point is there. I have a South American friend who lives in the US now. He likes laughing at his old countrymen sometimes, because, he says, they're always talking about how horrible the US is. How corrupt the government is. How lazy fat and stupid the people are. How much more beautiful South America is. Then when they get a week of vacation the first thing they do is book a trip to the US.

  2. Re:North Americans on U.S. Insists On Keeping Control Of Internet · · Score: 2, Insightful

The only reason i wanted to comment on this was the line, "Want it for yourself?"

    1. Its not that the government is saying they want exclusive rights, they just don't want to give up the control.

    2. Err... we already "have it". Its not like the US is demanding we run the Internet, or whatever, we already are administering it. The UN is the one instigating this, by asking for control.

    3. Our government made it. Hey glad you're enjoying it, and i think we'd all agree its public domain just about now, but the UN is asking for the change.

    4. Personally I'm of the mindset that hey, it works now, why try to change things. Either it will break or become more censored. Course it could and probably would work just as well, but as someone else said "If it ain't broken..."

Now, don't mod me troll, "i's just speakin' the truth".

These are all a bunch of horrible horrible lies of course. There is no way that Mozilla is worse than IE in any aspect.

All of those bugs reported last year for IE were well founded, with serious implications that needed to be released to the public for THEIR OWN SAFETY!

Obviously these Mozilla bugs reported this year are miniscule at best, and it does the community a great disservice to release any information about them!

I didn't RTFA so i apologize. But as far as the headline goes, he is correct in some aspects.

Some sites depend on ad-based revenue to pay for servers/bandwidth. If people use ad-blocking software, those sites make less revenue. Less revenue means they may not be able to keep their content free, and would then go under or start charging for use of their site.

Understand, I use ad-block, though I am aware that my actions might lead to sites charging for their content.

I modded my xbox for a few reasons, some legal some not. 1. I couldn't stand walking to the xbox, so I copied all my games (which i own) so i can run them all from there, jukebox style. 2. I can stream video directly from my replay. So i leave my replay upstairs and my xbox downstairs, to stream standard video to my HDTV. 3. I have downloaded divx movies (illegal i know, sue me, unless you're the mpaa then please don't) I also stream them to my xbox. 4. Finally I wanted a decent way to show off my digital pictures, without making my family pile infront of a computer, a HDTV is brilliant for this. I'm considering purchasing another xbox to use in my bedroom, this time copying my Sopranos/Family Guy/Cowboy Bebop DVDs so i can save $5 a month on my satellite rental fees. I'm tempted to start copying games, I must admit, but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to mod an xbox.

Ok I'll try to answer, and I'm not "picking" either.

I have Dish Network and I use their PVR because 1. It was free. 2. No monthly fee. 3. It was free. Why did you go with DirecTV over Dish?

Now, why I built my own was for fun. I had tons of computer parts lying around, and I wanted to see how these worked. I installed FreeVo and MythTV on a Linux box, then took it apart and built it as a windows box running MyHTPC which I like a lot better.

I think some people are into doing things themselves, and if they have the parts/money then why not try it? Worst case they'll go out and buy a tivo if they don't like it. Others are fine with just using the pre-packaged stuff.

I still use my DishPVR because of simplicity, but I use my MediaPC for file storage, image display, DiVX movies, jukebox mp3s, and internet radio.

A friend of mine has a replayTV so i don't know how that compares to a tivo (which i've never used) but I know his replay controls his DirectTV reciever and when he changes channels theres a minute pause or loss of signal as the replay changes the recievers channel thru infared. Since I have one thats all integrated I found this really annoying. I kinda wish i've seen a DirecTiVo system now to see how two integrated systems compare.
