HEY, douchenozzle. Read my first post... "Personally I feel..." PERSONALLY I feel golf is not a sport. I could give a flying f what you think about golf or sports. I'm not a dictionary. I don't define words. I was interjecting into a thread that got off topic in terms of defining what a sport is. I never insulted anyone, you're the pedarast that attacked me, and started name calling me. I never acted arrogant other than to post my opinion, read it, ignore it, do whatever just don't judge me for stating my opinion AND TELLING EVERYONE IT WAS MY OPINION.
if 4 out of 5 "non-sports" you mention appear regularly on just about any sports channel available you might want to reconsider your definition of "sports"
I mean if we want to let TV define what words mean to us I guess we can do that.
Maybe I should have specified too that the working out must be to improve the game players talent in that game. Someone who is a proof-reader but works out every night, does not make proof-reading a sport all of a sudden. Video gamers can be ripped for sure, but beyond some hand/back stamina their strength won't really improve their game.
And gaming being a real sport, misses because mainly you can be 500 pounds and be a champion. Which is no small feat I'm sure, and congrats and regards to the champions in that sport, seriously. But that doesn't make it an actual sport. Game. Competition, there are plenty of other categories that define it just as well.
Like I predicted I was modded a troll because people take a specific word seriously. I don't know why, because some of these players are tremendous athletes and I don't intend on taking that away from them just because I don't think what they do should be considered sport.
Thanks man. Like I said, I knew it would upset people and I really don't know why. I think Golfers and Nascar drivers are spectacular athletes... that doesn't make what they're playing a sport necessarily. Oh well... people attach too much importance to words sometimes... seriously, thanks though.
Heres my 2 cents on your comment. I just bought a SLI mobo, but only bought one graphics card for it (8600). My plan, we'll see if this works out, is to use the one video card for a year or so and then buy a second graphics card (same 8600) for hopefully a good deal less and install it in SLI to hopefully gain some performance. My thinking is: 1. It saves me some money now, as I can avoid paying over 125 for a video card and 2: I can lengthen the life of my machine in a year by paying less total, than it would've cost me to buy a similar powered card today.
Lot of hopefuls in there, but I think it sounds like a solid plan. Though I agree with you in the sense of why spend the same amount on 2 less powerful graphics cards when you could just buy a more powerful single card.
The dictionary says, among other things, that a "sport" is a: 3. diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime.. Golf and video games both easily fit into that definition.
So does bridge, Candyland, Tiddlywinks, bowling.
For that matter, so does having sex, painting, keeping a diary, and stamp collecting.
So you're comfortable saying all of those are sports? Just trying to keep things honest here.
Personally I feel a "sport" needs to be a team activity, requires training (sport specific) AND working out (non-sport specific), requires physical exertion during the sport and offer up some sort of offensive/defensive roles. By this definition, that would remove the following : Bowling, Golf, Poker, Horse-Riding, NASCAR (or similar driving competition), and yes video games. Basically if you can be fat and play; not a sport. And if you can drink alcohol while playing; not a sport.
The funny thing is, that paragraph will upset a few people. And I have no idea why. I love playing poker and golf. I bowl occasionally and my wife is a professional horse-back rider. I don't think saying that lessens those competitions and competitors at all. They all require an extreme amount of skill and training. And a lot of them require a lot of stamina (if not specifically strength). But for some reason people are offended by the semantics of it all.
It seems like from reading that the 33% number can from a "former EB Games employee." So it definitely could be accurate for his one store in his one town. It also could be some 17 year old who has a hard time calculating fractions.
There was also an account of a Best Buy Manager who said it was between 25 - 33%. Which is a significant range there, and again his experience for his one store in his one town.
Now I obviously have no idea what the failure rate is, so it definitely could be 33%, but I find that extremely hard to believe that its that high when you think globally and not just the estimation of just two employees.
Wasn't me who modded you a troll, but I was going to point out its phrasing like this "the massive 360 failure rates" that will get you modded as such. Just like in journalism the way you phrase things really implies your leanings, so just something to think about if you were interested in being less biased in your posts.
Btw, would you consider yourself a sell-out if you bought/used a Microsoft product?
I like my 360 don't get me wrong, but I'd really recommend you go with a model with a hard drive. I guess if you don't have a high speed internet connection wherever your 360 is going to be, it probably isn't a big deal. But otherwise I think you're going to be disappointed when you can't download all the free demos and trials. Whatever works though, just my 2cents.
Brilliant. Truly brilliant. The best part is its not even close to the actual letters for the word(s) he meant to say. So I take that to mean he really believes thats what people are saying when they use that phrase. That cracked me up, seriously, that had me Latching Out Lard.
what exclusive content is coming that has you excited?
Are you talking Japanese content or just games in general. I think even the most adamant 360 fans will admit that there just isn't much Microsoft is offering to cater to the Japanese audience. Like the headline pointed out there are a few games, and Eternal Sonata is getting relatively good reviews, but they'll never beat out Sony in Japan. Never.
As far as just general exclusive content? Wow, what isn't there to look forward to? Mass Effect of course (which I'd buy a system for). GTA4 extra content. Halo 3 (which as you say, may not skyrocket 360 sales, but its hard to argue that it won't boost them temporarily). Fable 2. Project Gotham 4, etc etc. The list goes on and on. But to be brutally honest with you, its a stupid question. I could go load up a list of exclusive PS3 content and I'm sure I'll find some games that interest me there. Your point of "but what is coming is a great draw that the PS3 doesn't have?" is just dumb. I've listed several things that I'm interested in that the PS3 doesn't/won't have. But I can go dig up a list of "what the 360 doesn't have" if I owned a PS3.
Your real question was "What does the 360 have that the ps3 doesn't have that *I* am interested in?" Which no one has an answer for but yourself.
Ha, awesome. I had a similar situation in my home. I played through the demo and was really impressed with the story, though I was a bit burned out on FPSes so I had no intentions of buying it. But I wanted to show the wife the graphics and story. So she watched me play through the demo one evening, then told me "You should buy this game, so I can watch you play it." Mmmm, could it be this easy? Seems like there must be yard-work hiding somewhere...
Heres how its legal. Go into McDonald's and buy a Pepsi. Nonono, Coca-Cola won't do, I want a Pepsi. Hmm, they don't offer that? Strange... Okay... okay. Lets see. I have an XM radio here... could you tell me what channel Howard Stern is on? Ohhh, he's on Sirius only. Hmm, okay, okay I'm starting to see a trend here. So I'm at bed bath and beyond and I'm looking for Kirkland sheets, Oh those are only made for CostCo and Kirkland stores? WTF!?! What is happening?!?!
Ooooooh right maybe companies to have the ability to make exclusive contracts with other companies. Grow the hell up.
On the other hand, please explain how this is a "shady practice"?
I can only buy certain models of TVs at CostCo (PriceClub) compared to Circuit City. Models specifically made for CostCo, offered at a lowered price that you can't buy anywhere else. Target (I think, maybe K-Mart) only carries the Martha Stewart Line of household items. Howard Stern is exclusive on Sirius radio while Opie and Anthony are only on XM and have a deal to be broadcast over the air as well. RockStar is releasing exclusive content onto the 360 release of GTA4.
These are not shady practice's. This is very transparent for all the world to see (or guess if they're not researching) and is done everywhere. Go to McDonald's and get me a Pepsi will you. Oh right, you can't.
Grow up and realize companies have one purpose to make money for their stockholders, not to ensure you can watch any movie you want because you bought a specific player.
You think they're selling their "technical integrity"? Really? They are a company who is in the business of making money for their shareholders and executives. There is no "selling out". There is no compromising of morals because they were paid to support a format.
You mention voting and merits and corrupters [sic], where do you think we are? This is not a thread discussing politics or the ethics of a moral society. This is not your favorite local band who just signed on with a major label. This is a company who sells their product to whoever will buy it. In this case it was advantageous to them to limit their distribution method because they were paid to do so.
Hip to hate Fox? WTF? I don't hate them to be cool. I hated them from the first time I saw a Fox News report...
Wow, you're so cool you hated them before other people started hating them!
I think anytime slang like Faux News or M$ is created, whether you like it or not, its become a trend or a fad. I'm not saying it is or isn't warranted, just saying that its reached the trendy status.
I think all of those are great points! I wasn't trying to bash you or anything for being an early adapter (I bought the hd-dvd add-on quite early... albeit used) so I completely understand that. The 360 worked for me and the ps3 works for you. Can't we all just get along!?;)
My biggest point of jealousy over the ps3 right now is the psp integration you mentioned. I won a PSP at work, and have found it extremely fun and useful. I'm not sure I'd exactly need/use any of the psp-ps3 features but... ya know, the more integration the better.
Definitely though, enjoy the ps3! Without trying to be biased I think you have to give the 360 the nod for being a better console right now, but once the ps3 has had as much time on the market as the 360 has, I think its going to be an extremely close race if not flat out won by Sony.
Listen I agree that Fross was trolling in that post. And you took the bait, so fair enough for everyone involved. But it has to be frustrating that you spent $100 more for what, a few months of ownership?
Oh and this made me smile a bit "and exclusives coming soon". Awesome.
But anyone who thinks the ps3 isn't going to be an awesome console in a year or less is just crazy. It is in its ramp-up time right now, which is to be expected. And once it gets a lot of stuff worked out that xbox did in its first year, it'll be a fantastic console.
I agree! And why even have hard drives in computers?!?! My Apple II e didn't have a hard drive and I played Lode Runner on it just fine! Stupid technology costing us money! Mod parent UP!!!
I'm happy to blame Sony for a ton of stuff, but it's too early to lay this at their feet.
I definitely agree with you here. Even if it is a specific problem within the PS3, a delay wouldn't be Sony's fault. And while I really don't want to throw Rockstar under the bus, the issue we're seeing is a result of Rockstar having underestimated how long it would take them to get the game working, properly, on both systems.
I'm trying to think of a good analogy here... maybe if my company made a bid on a project and said we'll integrate this new software into your network in x days. We start working and realize, wow this software is tricky its going to take us x+20 days. The company that hired us isn't going to blame the software, they'd blame my company. We gave them an estimate (Rockstar giving the gaming community a release date) but we underestimated what was required of us and now it's going to take us longer (Rockstar pushing back the release date).
And this is more of the same reactionary bullshit. This is what happens when you let religious nuts **Cough-The South-Cough** inject their religious beliefs into the public debate.
I think you may be hard-pressed to find supporters for your opinions when you go off on "Reactionary Bullshit" in one sentence, and then stereotype and classify an entire region of people in the very next sentence.
In fact you could argue you're committing the same behavior as these "religious nuts". They judge the video-game industry and claim all video games corrupt their children. You judge Southerners and claim that all Southerners are religious nuts.
Practicing what you preach would work better for you to get people on your side. Otherwise you simply fall into the category of "Do as I say not as I do."

I guess somebody should tell Sony about all the devices Sony produces that allow this stealing to occur!
Ehhh maybe we shouldn't tell them.
A dyke is a lesbian.
I was wondering why I got so aroused by his first sentence.
This action is akin to putting a finger in the dyke, but there are thousands, if not millions of other holes.
He minus well ...

Hey, some people are addicted to computer games, some are addicted to gravity...
/I'm here all week... tip your mods.
I tried going off gravity cold turkey... I crashed hard.
Ha, awesome. I had a similar situation in my home. I played through the demo and was really impressed with the story, though I was a bit burned out on FPSes so I had no intentions of buying it.
