It wasn't arbitrary. We might not agree with the reasons for the cancellation, but it certainly wasn't random as you're implying. Amazon did the right thing in this situation, it was their only choice really.
I dug up my Radio Shack Color Computer 3 a couple months ago, everything still worked. I miss the 8-bit days when you could actually Grok the whole machine.
Completely untrue. If you want the convenience of emailing documents directly to your Kindle over Whispernet there's a potential charge (they don't actually charge it). You can transfer a gazillion files to the Kindle over the USB cable for no charge.
Don't people at Slashdot ever feel like they have to have to slightest knowledge about what they're commenting on? As some one else said, the amount of misinformation here is just STAGGERING.
As I said it's mostly a damn fine book reader. You don't HAVE to sue the other features, though apparently their existence turns some people into pointless snarkers.
It's $0.10 per document. Amazon has never actually charged this fee, and customer service says they have no plans to at this time. If you're worried that you *might* get charged, you can instead send your files Amazon for free conversion and have the documents mailed back to you. For native document formats like text you can copy things over via the usb cable.
Me, I just email everything to my Kindle. It's not in the least difficult, (a barely trained monkey could do it) and the Kindle is far from "locked down."
Having owned both an Ipaq and a Kindle, the difference between the two devices is simple enormous. The Kindle is FAR superior to the Ipaq as a book reader.
Also the Kindle can access the Internet via whispernet and plays mp3s just fine, but it's still mostly a damn fine book reader.
There's also the font size factor. My eyesight is crap and is only getting worse as time goes by. I find the Kindle's adjustable font size to be a real boon.
Which you'll eventually be able to get from the Xandros or Asus website once they get their act together. Most of the eeepc's software is probably already up at Xandros' ftp site, in the standard files. They don't have to release code to proprietary stuff, just GPL stuff they modified for the eeepc, everything else should be available from Xandros. Right now, it's sounding like just the one module.
Slashdot lives on hyperbole, misstatements, wild speculation and wrong information. What it comes down to is Asus needs to release the source code from the module they modified. On Slashdot that translate to a Microsoft conspiracy using Asus as its willing pawn. Sheesh.
That's not what happened in Ohio so much as there simply weren't enough machines sent to minority or poor (Democratic) areas. Though poll workers requested more machines and the machines were available our wonderful Republican Secretary of State wouldn't send them. His comment was basically that if you want to vote you can stand in line.
My largely Republican district had an abundance of machines.
Eating isn't the be-all and end-all of diabetes. There's also significant genetic component. If you don't have the genetic disposition you can eat all the junk and crap you want and not develop diabetes. If you have the genes for it, you can be normal weight and still develop it. Eating less helps but it isn't all there is to it.
By all appearences it's a trimmed down version of Xandros (based on Debian) Linux. Xandros Networks is a GUI front end for apt-get and should allow you to install most anything you care too. Synaptic is available too if you prefer that, again assuming it's basically the same as the full-size Xandros.
You're a Handheld PC, like the Jornada 720 or Nec MobilePro 780. Except, they did allow you to access on board files as long as you stuck a CF card in. I'm personally looking forward to Asus's Eee PC as a more capable and only slightly larger H/PC.
What would the double standard be in this case?
I have one because I condemn the GOP for actually doing something wrong but not the Dems for something that they didn't do but might theoretcially do?
If there's a double standard here it's completely in your court.
Just more of the same. Whenever the GOP gets caught in yet another scandal they trot out the "There's enough blame to go around on both sides", or "Clinton did it too!". In this case the other side didn't do it too so they fall back on castigating the Dems for something they didn't do, but would have done, at least according to them.
Okay, you were probably trying to attack someone's sheep in town then. If they have a bright yellow name they're treated like NPCs and you can't attack them.
LOTRO deeds are different from CoX badges because a lot of them aren't simply ornamental titles. Many LOTRO deeds result in useable skills and stat bonuses. Hit things enough times with your staff and you can gain a "Staff Strike" ability which gives you a chance to stun your opponents. Right now my Lore-master is working on his "Emnity with Wargs II" deed which results in a racial ability that lets him basically teleport (the game calls it mapping) back to Bree.
Sounds like you were playing an elf and didn't understand that elves are friends of all critters furry and small. They aren't afraid of you because you can't kill them. "even can't fight the NPCs or animals unless it is part of the plot." only applies to elves and wildlife. Human, dwarves and hobbits can kill little furry critters with pointless abandon.
>4) REALLY nasty restrictions on recorded TV for Media Center Computers, like limiting you to 3 days.
This must be tied to some specific and limited programming. I have yet to run into anything I can't record and copy over to my laptop. Have seen no time-out restrictions at all so far and I've had my system for Media Center system for 6 months or so.

but this is *nice*. If they manage the $200 price they'll sell them by the millions.
My Mom has done the same thing with a medical encyclopedia for years. She looks things up and decides she has them.

can I order my own pet minature hadrosaur? I can't be the only one thinking that, can I?

As a long time Ohio resident I have no doubt what-so-ever that the election here was stolen.
