Surely Adobe could make the GUI in carbon, but place the processing stuff in cocoa libs and have some interaction via ipc/tcp or something.... like a CS4-daemon or something.

Then again, why cannot apple just release carbon source code, then it could be ported to win32/linux, or is carbon really how win32 itunes is made? I did hear that QT for windows basically contains

Id like to see a software version of this trick used on real 24bit displays, ie. make a true 30bit RGB TIFF, or 48bit HDR TIFF.

So your code just has to generate 4 seperate internal memory bitmaps, and cycle through them in sequence, if your LCD is set to
75hz then it might just work, 100hz perhaps.

Sounds like a great trick. I feel like coding up a 30bit display test pattern.

Sure the iphone has 8gig (RAM) but thats storage, not DRAM, if they put in 1gig DDR ram in there it would fly, but fast ram uses OODLES of power.

do more your self, but you then can have control and limit the ram usage, and do things smartly, and not use 16k of ram for just
    one 80char string input query.

Just port the xbox OS (runs on 64m ram) to 400mhz ARM and bingo that would be a decent platform.

Or even port BEOS to a 4meg ram platform.

it can be closer to RTOS than an expensive RTOS system I personally think.

Any NON RTOS system can be made to be close to RTOS if you code your stuff smartly to be aware of time and make sure it doesnt use too much. I mean any one can benchmark
array copies/sorts/inserts and then determine ahead of time if X operation will take more than 100ms. Oh yeah a little more work, but its just one cost.
