Personally, I've given up on commercial software because of crap like product activation, and now this. Stallman's warnings about freedom were so prescient as to be frightening.
Totally ineffective protection like this is worse than no protection at all. Thank you Microsoft for another useless "feature" which gives bad people an edge.
It's my personal opinion that the post was insightful. Then I remarked that many of the people who replied didn't seem to understand the point that was made. I never made the argument that you are suggesting.
Dear Slashdot: I'm looking for a way to store data so that the probability of recovering it is extremely low. I can't just delete the files since my company has a legal obligation to store them, so/dev/null is out of the question. Ideally I'd like some sort of crappy, hacked solution using media which is totally inappropriate and unreliable. I've already tried writing 32MB to 1.44MB floppy disks but that just wasn't bad enough. In your opinion, what is the shittiest data storage technology available ?
I don't see a difference. This guy is just doing what is technologically possible....
This is the most insightful post I've read in a while, and pretty much all the replies so far have been from nit-wits who didn't get it. Prepare to be modded into oblivion;)
Why oh why are so many geeks so friggin mechanically DUMB?
This is a pretty interesting question. I would wager that the geeks of old, having no computers invested their time learning about machines. But with no internet to speak of, how could they amass their collections of pornography ? I've heard that in the old days, pornography was distributed in something similar to a cheap book. You could appearently buy it at a place called "the corner store". I searched google for hours, but I couldn't find anymore information. I would assume that the store is located on some sort of corner, but the corner of what - I wonder.
For linux at least, I think binary packages are on their way out. Too much hassle trying to manage dependencies across multiple versions. Everything will be compiled from source when you install it. I think many more applications will be written in Java as well.
Coincidentally look what year GNU was formed. Stick that in a troll and smoke it.

What's wrong with embedding Xvid video in an .ogg file ?
It doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always gets in!

Uh, Xvid has gotten a lot better than you give it credit for. See Doom9's latest codec comparison.
I'm not sure about the game, but the Cube engine looks good. There's also the Crystal Space engine.

I tried to tweaked one and I got punched in the face.
Quickly burn it so that people won't know!

Well, if you get an account and log in, you'll quickly realize that the moderators are morons.
This thing is not a worm, no matter how much you want it to be one.
That's got to be the best sig ever. Except if it were score: 5 it would show up. Change it to score: 0

I'm using Konqueror from KDE 3.1.4 and your test seems to work perfectly.
New ?!
Mention on Slashdot: Priceless. ;)
Stop deluding yourself and others

Not just any link. Some, like goatse just don't get the hits whereas others, like geek chicks will down a server in 30 seconds.
