Surely a user will have the choice of pushing the DRM button or not... if they don't push it then the playing field is still level, if they do push it then they did so for a reason.
I brought it back from Europe around a year ago and have not had a single problem with it, the interface is great, I have one or two apps that I've written for myself - one that tracks expenses and one that prevents me from buying the same DVDs over and over when I'm in Tower.
Everything that I used to be able to do with my PocketPC can now be done with a single device.

One question for you; did you move all your money to into the paper dominated Bulgarian banking system in 1999 as well?
... that any academic council looking at P2P and "thinking" about the implications would have had the good sense to break this into two parts.
a) The issues of sharing somebody elses copyrighted material and guidelines for what to do and what not to do.
and MORE importantly...
b) The academic benefits of using P2P to share research, essays and other related material between students and the faculty. Imagine the possibilities if EVERYTHING that a university produced was available and indexed in one or more P2P applications.
Just how do you protect the world from something like this? Microsoft released this patch on the 16th July and have been trying to encourage users to install it, some did, some didn't.
Going forwads any successful OS strategy has to work out how to solve this problem.
... I've played Asheron's Call for about 3 years now (I know it's a little out dated at this point). The attraction of the game has always been that it provides an opportunity to escape from the real world for a couple of hours now and again.
If economies start to merge, or the line between game and reality blur then the game becomes less and less attractive.
In the AC world there have been a number of people who have turned to eBay to auction off items that they have come by in game, many of these people have done well financially out of it. Unfortunately this means that (much like reality), those with the $$ end up with the game enhancing items and those who came for the game play generally lose out.
I sincerely hope that MMRPGs and reality are kept worlds apart permanently.
There are a number of things that need to be tested in court and the SCO case will cover most of them... we need to see the GPL tested (as you say), we also need some precedent set around the use of IP in OSS projects, this case also looks like it has the potential to cover some of that ground as well.
The SCO case is likely to be the first in a string of similar cases, the outcome of this one will help other companies decide how they want to proceed with other perceived IP violations. The more the merrier.
In the long run OSS is not going to survive or succeed on good will and enthusiasm, it needs some legal standing and legal understanding before larger enterprises will commit whole heartedly.

over 750 DVDs and still a growing collection, every now and again I would re-buy something, or at least I used to.
it tells me my name as I turn it on, already a core part of the OS.
don't fret, I'll be out soon enough...
the SCO shares I bought 7 months ago have jumped almost 500%.
I'm still waiting for the $23m that the son of the Nigerian oil baron promised me though. I'll keep you posted.
All I can say is that I totally love it.

You mean "city" like Munich?
you mean that DeBeers would not jump in and control the computer market?
I can see the tustle between Microsoft and the South African slave traders hotting up already...
... I guess this is it.

there is more than one school out there, many of them share common curricula.
of course it would... isn't that what research and education is all about?

I guess they could use the DNA to track down and prosecute the descendants of the killers?
but that's a silly comparison... we see the same, if not more, updates to the Linux platform.
It is only a matter of time until somebody discovers "something" that can be exploited in the same way.
This is less of a Microsoft issue and more of an industry issue.
.... climbed over 500% in the last 7 months I would be selling a portion of it off as well.
The only thing that you can read into this article is that the SCO execs do have a modicum of common sense after all.

... I would have thought that developers would have been clammering to spend their spare hours contributing to a little known accounting package.
Maybe after a little publicity it will be more attractive.
I'd contribute, a microdot on every document that the system ever produced could contain a tribute to me and the girl I currently fancy.
