I don't know about the rest of the world, but personally, I believe that the best way to keep your kids from viewing things you dont want them to view is to SUPERVISE them when they are on the internet. If this means not giving them the password to your ISP or going so far as to password the BIOS on the computer so they cant even boot it up, then so be it. Parents have gotten way too lazy when dealing with their kids IMHO. You wouldnt let your 10 year old kid walk into an adult bookstore, but letting them wander the internet unaccompanied is just fine it seems these days. But, OH NO, that would be an invasion of their privacy......

This gives me lots of warm fuzzies for HP. We have recently started using HP servers and high end workstations here in the software development company I work for and have been rather impressed with the fact that RedHat Linux 9 works without modification on all of this hardware. Now this support for the linux community just makes me more certain that we were correct in choosing them for our hardware source.

Seems to me that it wasn't SCO making the claim of a million lines but Gerhardt making a statement, and he is from the other side of the tracks, with the open source/Linux community. Someone needs to read the article that they are linking to before posting it for us to tear apart!

really? Ive been working with id10T users for way too many years. If it can be messed up, they WILL find a way. I do have a couple of trusted employees who can change a cartridge without supervision, but they are the exception, not the rule.

I have a major problem with this. I do not download music. The majority of the music I listen to is on casette tapes. I own perhaps 6 really purchased music CDs. The rest are dupes from casettes that I purchased years ago. I am even in the process of collecting 8-track tapes of real music to convert to CD but I will not share them. I will keep the tapes of the origional music to prove that I purchased them. I have absolutely no desire to pay for someone else's music downloads. Yea, I rant a bit but what the heck, I can afford to. Oh, and I listen to both kinds of music, Country AND Western.

Maybe, just maybe, actually using that bandwidth that you find open to the public from a private network is unlawful. This could be as much a social issue as a legal one. People doing it are not being good citizens perhaps, by "stealing" bandwidth from others. Naughty Naughty. I actually had someone email me and complain that my web server was virus infected and that it had caused major problems on their network when an employee of theirs had visited my website. They were threatening legal action and such. I replied to them that I didnt run a web server and that someone from their IP had hacked my machine. Several days later I got an apologetic email that also said the offending employee was no longer in their employ. I love my honeypot!
