    Well is sure sounds like they are going towards an anti-swpat position. Specifically, they now admit that the 40 000 patents should not have been granted. Previously that have said that they wanted to harmonize to the _current_ EPO practise.

    Timbro is a propaganda organization strongly opposed to the current government of Sweden. They release all kinds of "studies" trying to look objective, but they really are not.

    thepiratebay.org is mostly targetted at the Swedish audience, but there is a lot of international stuff there too. It is heavily loaded now, bit is certainly not going away.

    1. The scientific method has a critical reliance on observation, which in turn relies upon our senses (we must sense things directly, or sense their effects). How does science handle phenomena we cannot sense, or do not know how to measure?

    Yes, I trust what I can observe, and only that. That is because the world I can sense is the world I live in. There might be a parallel univere that I cannot interact with in any way, but well, then I can't do anything about it anyway.

    Might we not attribute effects to the things we can sense, rather than causes we cannot sense, out of ignorance?

    If I can see effects of something, then I can sense it.

    The movements are somewhat different, but Free Software and open Source Software is the same thing (all FS is OSS and all OSS is FS).

    If those companies spent some of this money on actually developing software they have that software and the copyright. If they spent it all on lawyers writing patent applications I don't really feel sorry for them.

    Just buy a pack of candles and matches. Battery powered heating must be one of the most ineffective solutions possible. The few hours of heating you could possibly get would not make much difference. it's not like your house temperature will drop instatly when the power goes off. If it does you really need better insulation.

    Is this like the predication that we'd run out of IP addresses in the late 1990's. We all know that happened. Wait, no it didn't. Humans fixed the problem with private networks and NATing. In the process, they improved security and sanctity of their networks.
    NAT is the cause of a lot of trouble. Just try havig two people behind different NATs communicating directly without a server in the middle. Of course, it works fine as long as you just surf the web, but for anything more powerful, I would avoid beeing NATed at all costs.

    The GPL does not forbid you from selling modified versions. It only says that if you have distributed the binary to someone, you cannot charge for the source (more than shipping etc.)

    This is great! Hopefully, Denmark and Poland might follow. They were both very hesitant, but gave up to the pressure in the end.

    This is possible because the council has not yet formally voted for the directive. The voting was only preliminary, but usually, it is not changed before the formal vote. The formal voting for many issues is conducted at the same time, unless some issue requires seoarate voting. Hopefully, we can get issue voted separately. Also, the directive if not approved before is has passed the European Parliament, and they are a lot more anti-swpat than the council.

    Moore never claims the misile in the background is made to carry nuclear weapons. Do you really thing they would let him near such a missile? What he says is
    So you don't think our kids say to themselves, gee, dad goes off to the factory every day - he builds missiles. These are weapons of mass destruction. What's the difference between that mass destruction and the mass destruction over at Columbine High School?"
    Note the "our". His question is about America in general, not meant to refer specifically to the Lockheed Martin plant in question. Lockheed Martin does supply weapons of mass destruction to the US military, and that the company is the nation's largest military contractor. (mostly stolen from here)

    Perhaps google could index only wikipedia pages that has not been changed for a few days. So as long as people keep removing the spam links, they will have no effect on the pageranks. I won't work for forgoten old wikis, but it will for the big ones. I believe that completely ignoring links on Wikipedia is a bad idea, since the average quality of sites linked from there is very good.

    Fair use for commercial software is what ever you negotiate it to be.

    Of course the politicans will vote wrong, when the industry tells them to, and you sit quiet and whine. Democracy works, but requires a lot of work. I guess many politicans think people want software patents. Lets tell them how it really is.

    Well, june did end without software patents here in Europe, even though it was just delayed. And I do feel hope. European democracy works a lot better than American. The corporations have a lot of power in the EU, but I think the members of the parliament are often ok. Keep calling MEP's and spread the word folks!

    If you tell GNU folks that ideas can be owned, they will dissagree with you and probably tell you so. If you use words that implies ideas can be owned, it will have the same effect. Nothing strange with that.

    The levy is not as much as $4, but it is true that it is proposed. Though I dont like it (and I hate the new law), somehow I can accept such things. I much rether pay artists by such fees or taxes, than having crazy copyright restrictions placed on me, useful program forbidden and a RIAA guard att every computer.
