Calm down. I take it you didn't see my point, that if this technology works for mini-drives, they'll likely use it to boost things in the desktop to way past 40GB in even low end systems.
Has anyone seen any hard drive available that's smaller than 40GB these days? I think it's becoming nearly impossible, and with the coming generation of this new technology, I guess it will be commonplace to see 120GB [or bigger] drives in every new computer.
"This ruling could threaten to 'turn your friendly neighborhood computer repair technician into a government informer' "
Does the saying, "discretion is the better part of valour" meant anything to anyone these days? If I saw something extremely dangerous on a computer I'm fixing I'd probably say something weather or not there was a law forbidding me to. Likewise, if there's something technically illegal, but not likely to threaten the safety of anyone, I'm not going to go to any lengths to be a snitch. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, and all that.
After we've practically wasted penicillin on diseases we should have erradicated such as TB, I'll be crying crocodile tears if we don't make swift work of HIV one day soon.
I had a gander at the Salt Lake *ames website too, and it had archane policies about linking to their bloody website even! I mean how anal is that, that they will literally sue you for doing free advertising for them?
I think Slashdot must have covered that story, I remember talking about it here anyway.
In fact I didn't open the.pdf file in my email like a good little boy. I can get the same information myself through good old HTTP and HTML, and avoid the PDF Acrobat launching, time wasting, plugin holed, patch needing Reader like the plague.
And it really annoys me how Symantec used to tell you exactly how to fix the registry when a virus hit, but now they just tell you to disable System Restore and buy their product to scan for files so it can delete them.

Please leave the hype to CNN, this is only modest slashdot. Have some journalistic integrity, and don't make up numbers like the mainstream overblown media.
You put the smear job of an American Idol TV judge ahead of an actively spreading computer worm that demonstrates the insecurity built into Microsoft's "most secure operating system ever", and has affected tens of thousands of people in a real way?
Now that media is directly affected, they will start proclaiming that this worm is the worst ever, and has caused billions of dollars in losses for businesses.
Media worm hype really sucks, is my point.
What I found amusing today were the two alert emails in my inbox. The first one was a warning about the new Acrobat flaw [which makes it a requirment to install a bad version of Acrobat, and then patch it *3* times to fix it!]. Then next email was one about this Zotob worm spreading through the PnP ethernet bug in Windows 2000 - but the information came via a.pdf file!
I open this story about Google Adsense, and what is the/. ad of the story? Google Adsense of course: Providing advertising content relevant to the topic of the webpage.
At least they didn't raise it to threat Level Fuschia, the level at which the gayness of Linus converts even the most hardened heterosexual to the likes of *nix programmer.
I'm sorry, after seeing the lunacy of coloured threat levels hyped for decades, and the/. phenomenon of claming linux users are homosexuals, it only made sense that I combine the two into a semi-constructive joke to link the two cliches.
You could cluster the Game Boy, with special games, like an F1 Racing game that came with a 4 way adapter so 4 people could race against each other if they each had the gaming cartridge, and had the 2 player wires.

The bloody bastards in government seem to have the power to legislate time for the rest of North America too, since they foolishly extended DST the other week in law, and now Canada which is the USA's largest trading partner, is going to have to consider legislating time changes to make trade, business, and travel work on time. Nothing can save our VCRs though, if they automatically switch to Daylight Savings Time.
Why hasn't the USA legislated a change to metric measurements if they're all powerful in determining which systems of measurement the public is using in commerce? Then you could have metric time like we have here in Canada. Yes, I'm kidding about that.
This proves once again that money and power equals more money an power over the law even.

That's what makes me nervous too, and I think stops more widespread adoption of Linux, is that there are too many distributions. People are trained to know that Mac software doesn't run on Windows, and Windows doesn't run on Linux, but when they hear that there are 100 versions of Linux, then they are concerned that a program they get for "Red Hat" might not work for "Mandriva".

I was wondering if packet loss can cause cell loss. Hopefully they use Burnproof buffer underrun protection.
And you know how dirty keyboards are, so I hope the surgeon washes his hands, and uses a new keyboard each time.

Get it? Usually you ask if it runs linux, but since this Ipod does run linux, it's funnier to ask if it still can play music.
Never mind, I should just go to bed.
