    You could also run the OS right from RAM, if you use a small distro like Damnsmalllinux.org and avoid using a hard drive completely. The storage can be on a USB memory stick.

    You just "fixed" my external USB 2.5" drive. It used to work fine with just the one power connector, but then stopped. I tried it with the two, and it lives again. Thank you!

    Precisely. It doesn't make a journalist qualified to write about the latest antivirus software just because they have a degree that covers ethics. If they can't understand the difference between heuristic and signature scanning, they aren't going to be able to write a very meaningful critique on the subject even if they are trying to be ethical and balanced. Will they know which side is feeding them a line of bull, if one interviewee decides to blow smoke up their butt?

    How your flamebait got moderated "insightful" is a travesty. But then again, Slashdot moderators may have mod points, but that doesn't make them qualified to operate a computer.

    Seriously though, there's a good chance you've never tried to use your video camera to shoot a movie. And there's a much better chance that those members of the Directors Guild started off with video cameras an a homemade effort. So if you want to piss on bloggers because they didn't go to school specifically for journalism, when they may have degrees in Computer Science, or other areas of expertise that they write about, you're not really making much sense.

    I don't even believe Microsoft's numbers. I know very few people who have bought new computers recently, and many who say they are avoiding Vista [and that isn't only the people I've advised against upgrading]. Maybe my region of the country is just not as into new computers as some parts of the world though?

    That's what burns me the most about "deniers" is that they ignore the simple point that a greenhouse effect can be verified in a small experiment, by denying that it could happen on a larger scale. Smokers have the same problem with second hand smoke, they think that just because their toxin has traveled across a room, that it gets less toxic and can't kill in the same way.

    Recently the Payola scandal most recently prosecuted was settled, and Clear Channel and CBS and other stations that have ruined small town radio, have agreed to play non-RIAA content. The trouble is, I don't know if they can get away doing it all in the wee hours of the morning.

    Apparently I have a high pagerank, on Yahoo too, for searches involving "vaginas" which I wrote about recently after highschool students in New York were suspended for reading the Vagina Monologues. I certainly don't have that specific search string anywhere on my website.

    I don't think most people know their searches are so easily identified. I routinely get searches that hit on my site where people are looking for "15 year old vagina", or something along those lines. I'd bet it isn't other 15 year olds searching in most cases.

    Sorry, but looking through a telescope IS astronomy [if it's to record something in space], and fixing your car does make you a mechanic. That you don't get paid for it, or use it as your profession just means that you're an amateur, not a professional ___whatever.
