    why is it that no one takes the example of the earth simulator in japan and puts it to use? the earth simulator uses less proccessors and is three times faster than any other supercomputer yet people still waste money on building 2000cpu systems, i mean shit ive needed a new computer for about 4 years, and u could've given me something...

    8 megapixels how many megs is each picture, i mean will it take one 32meg memorystick for 2 picutres, i think 8 megapixels will only be useful when compactflash or other medias start making 1gb cards for 30 bucks

    you see the problem i was talking about are the holes in windows, and if someone else runs the patches for you, it doesnt fix the problem that you yourself were suppose to be aware of it and fix it. sorry if i was a little crazy...

    now as much as this is a good idea it is bad because it reduces the internet bandwidth and creates users who don't know how to run windows update, if someone else keeps fixing the problem it will never be fixed.

    personally i havent owned a console since my genesis which i still play. but im really anticipating sony's playstation 3 because of all added features invovled its a pvr with 120gb hdd, dvd-rw drive, i mean its gonna be amazing, i'd probably buy one and never purchase a game.

    all i really meant was there were like posts saying "v3 sucked i had to switch to v2" and those werent really fair because this is still a release canidate, and even if the betas were "stable" that still doesnt make them perfect, a point which i was trying to make.

    it was in a book review for a book about programming techniques.. "Make it work today, optimize it tommorrow" as soon as ur done with your project, sumbit the dirty solution and later on optimize it properly

    the thing is if a program is really innovative and radical you really cannot tell. example an example of new radical science in work would be an "ionic engine" it took princeples found from earlier sciences and applied them. we don't have this in CS. Nobody comes up with a theory about how "the computer space" works, and then tries to prove it, because everything is pretty much well documented and everything is understood because we created, so you really can't have really extreme programs. unless that is if someone uses a function really weird and gets it to something else, and i really don't see alot of that.

    this idea was concieved in good intentions but really just turned out to be a huge PDA. I'm gonna predict in 4-6months microsoft will pull Tablet pc's all together and hopefully offer bigger screen PDAs.

    The more powerful the chips intel pushes the less effcient the coder becomes, i remember when i used to tweak my programs so they would run optimally on a slower machines, now a days its like you need 192mb and 500mhz for word processing. People need to get back to the old school days when a 486/66mhz and 4mb RAM was minumum. I can understand how games evolve and more power is needed, but it's not just games that have this high requirement these days.

    i think the quote should be modified because, Cringley never says porn only "data", and the fact that he would want to hide the porn leads to the assumption that it is child porn. It may be a short time before Mr.Cringleys lawyers ask slashdot to change it, it is better to beat them to it.
