Using your logic I should fore go my families saftey for some perceived public good. I say buy the safest best vehical that suits my needs.

Not to bash the dominate religion in Utah. But there are a polygamists in Utah who illegally marry their 14 year old daughters off to their brothers. Not necessarily the main stream view but it does happen.

As for waiting until after marriage to start a famly in Utah, the unmarried Teenage pregnancy rate is well above the nation average. BTW so are the divorce rate, teenage suicide rates,and incidences of domestic violence.

I agree auditors are a great idea. It worked so well for Enron! But in that case both Enron and the auditor are the ones the share holders and the employees needed protection from.
Ultimately this problem is very hard to deal with. To give the Sys Admins the flexibility/power to do their jobs you open yourself up to situations like this. The only way you can minimize your exposure is by developing a solid team approach with per review. But Ultimately it boils down to one person that you have to trust somewhere sometime.
The problem with maintaining our "technical" edge is the same with maintaining any other sort of advantage. When you play chess with good players often enough you get good. They will improve at a faster rate that the better player. We Americans do not hold a lock on intelligence, innovation or initiative.
Two of the things that help America maintain our advantage are our education and immigration systems.
Our education system attracts the best and brightest from around the world. Some of these people return home to help their countries, but a lot stay here and improve ours. Our Universities could not maintain the level of research without foreign students. Could our system be better? definitely! But not everyone is going to be a Nobel Prize winner no matter what we do. A vast majority ( person observation) of people I know do not have strong problem solving skills and that is not limited to Americans. and I personally do not feel you can teach this. Given the choice how many students take Physics, Calculus or other "hard" class in high school? My physics chemistry and calculus classes in high school were a lot smaller than shop classes. We can not continue to only blame our schools and teachers for under prepared students. We as parents need to make sure our kids are doing it. You can't just send them off to school and call it good. You have to follow up, check their work, encourage them.
Our Immigration system also helps us out a great deal. If you are published and hold an advance degree it is a lot easier to emigrate than if you don't. I have several friends with multiple PhDs from Russia and India and they want to stay and raise their families here. Very few of them talk of returning home.

Yes, our economy is changing, From small family run farms to very large corporations run ones, from family owned business to mega Corporations, locally owned Banks to Mega Banks etc..... This change is not all bad but it is not entirely good either. Yes prices have fallen or remained stable with the increase in volume. But selection and customer service has fallen also. Go to any Locally owned business and see the difference in quality and service between Walmart and them. As to wages, the profits and wages from a locally owned business stay in the community ( ok minus cost of goods and services). Walmart employs a very few managers per store compared to the owners and employees of the local businesses they displace, it is how they can afford to reduce costs and drive them out of business.
Ouch that hurts to think so hard, better get back to the pipe.
Walmart is the beginning of the end of American Middle Class. They kill a lot of small individually owned mom and pop stores when they move into a town. In the future we will all get to work for them at minimum wage and buy cheap crap from Asia.
It is ironic that everyone is up in arms about M$'s behavior but is very passive about what is happening to small businesses. In my view both M$ and Walmart are predatory.
Isn't it possible for a virus to insert DNA from on species into another? Isn't this one way viruses mutate? They pick up genetic material from the host?
Don't get me wrong, after I was laid off in Jan 01, I was pretty pissed. But it does not pay to burn a bridge you do not have to. I have done work for them and other ex-employers and we both have been happy. But definitly charge them. In the long run it really does not help to carry a grudge and can be a source of revenue.

You don't get it do you? Most people are not driven only by money. They work at their jobs because they want to contribute. They have pride in what they do. They do it because it is important ( and in NASA case extremely cool). These "thefts" as you call them are an valuable way to tell people they are doing a important job and doing it well. It does not matter how far "removed" their jobs are from the Astronauts or whoever is at the top of the pyramid. The lowest employee contributes as part of the team. Think back in your life. Didn't you appreciate those simple pieces of Ribbon and Brass? I know I did and still do. They tell me in ways the money simply cannot. I am appreciated and am doing a good job.
