    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solitary_confinement
Solitary confinement is a punishment or special form of imprisonment in which a prisoner is denied contact with any other persons, though often with the exception of members of prison staff. It is considered by some a form of psychological torture.[1] It is usually cited as an additional measure of protection from the criminal.

It is also used as a form of protective custody and to implement a suicide watch.

Solitary confinement is colloquially referred to in American English as the 'hole', 'lockdown', the 'SHU' (pronounced 'shoe') - an acronym for security housing unit, or the 'pound'; and in British English as the 'block' or the 'cooler'.[2][3]

" However, proponents argued that there was in fact an advantage: it would encourage older workers to retire, thereby creating opportunities for younger people to find jobs, which would lower the unemployment rate. While most economists attribute the recession of 1937 and 1938 to other causes, historian Edward Berkowitz subsequently contended that the Act was a cause of the "Roosevelt Recession"."

Now we HAVE social security, and the same problem rearing its ugly head--

this is what sparked my comment.
perhaps the solution will be-- kill the old workers...

Think about it, social security formation DID wipe a lot of people out of the workforce, people that then retired.. now people on social security are staying in the workforce (where they can) and there is no 'program' to recreate the same changeover of workforce.. so now we need a "Final Solution"

(not that I am a proponent of such)
