I have no problems whatsoever with Mozilla 1.0.1 in my P2/400 at my work place. I'm using Win2K and 192MB of PC100 memory, and an awful S3Trio64 2MB video card. "Visual enhancements" are all on (shadows, transparencies) and Mozilla is still fast even when using heavy skins, like Skypilot. I usually start Mozilla when I arrive and only shut it down in the end of the day. Sometimes Mozilla gets slow when I have lots of tabs open, but if I wait a little it goes back to normal. I also tried Phoenix 0.4 in a P200MMX with 64MB and it worked fine, although not as well as Opera (of course)

I wonder how well will it perform. Although I'm aware these are two entirely different platforms, I'm kinda disappointed at how bad DivX plays in my P2/400.

They didn't list all the games, but it's possibly there, since Tec Toy translated it to Portuguese some time ago. But it wouldn't probably interest audiences outside Portuguese-speaking countries.

    According to The Magic Box:

"The new chairman for Square Enix is Keiji Honda, the president and representative director of Enix; and Square's Wada Youichi will become the vice president of the company."

I wonder which one is correct, now. Btw, the names are inconsistently written: it should be Keiji Honda and Youichi Wada or Honda Keiji and Wada Youichi (as purists usually prefer).

I'm not worried about my neighbor, I'm worried about people who don't know how to use a gun using it. I'm not worried about being shot myself, I'm worried about innocent people being accidentaly shot by ignorant people. Unfortunately this is very common in some big cities.

Of course a car can be as deadly as a gun, but IMHO guns were created to kill people easier, while cars not. Anyway, I think someone should never get a gun without knowing how to use it. I could say this about cars, too, but let's stay focused. I dare to say this is common sense. Personally, I'd prefer no one could get a gun at all; this way, no one could ever be shot, but somehow I guess this is much more difficult. :)

I don't really believe we should be talking about cars, but just to make things more correct: in most Ocidental countries, you can't legally drive without driving courses in any jurisdiction. And in most of these countries, driving courses are way cheaper than cars.

Only tyrants and criminals fear an armed citizenry.

I think this is a very disturbing thought. I'm not a tyrant and I'm not a criminal, and yet I'm very afraid of armed citizenry. In a lot of Ocidental countries it is much easier to get a gun than to get some shooting courses. I'm forced to think it's very likely a lot of people get guns without knowing how to use them. And a lot of us know how dangerous guns can be in the hands of unaware people, especially when they decide to use their guns.

  15. Free Universes on Free Books: Under the Radar · · Score: 5, Interesting

It would be nice if we also had something like free literary universes. I mean, you could write fiction which would add to an existing universe and its storylines. In the mentioned article, they touch the subject of open-source books. Although there's some intriguing thought there, I don't think the issue is taken broadly. It seems the original article doesn't focus in any specific book genre, but I think it's safe to assume it deals more specifically to reference books, not literary books. Any further thoughts on this?

In fact, Santos Dumont is considered the father of modern heavier-than-air flight in many countries other than the USA. This is because the first heavier-than-air flight with witnesses was with his airplane 14-bis. The Wright Bros. allegedly flied before Santos Dumont, but they didn't have witnesses. Also, the 14-bis was self-powered. Santos Dumont made his public demonstration in the Bagatelle Field, in Paris, in 1906, while the Wright Bros. only could publicly show their airplane in 1908. Just for the sake of information.

Perhaps you're not aware, but silicon cells aren't the only way to seize solar energy. In fact, one of the (currently) most efficient ways is using solar energy to heat up water, which can be directly or indirectly used (say, in a hot water turbine or something like that). This is an enormous underused, completely pollution-free, natural resource for big, sunny countries. In fact, this kind of solar cell doesn't even need to be built over land.

But I agree completely with you, that we use too much energy and we don't use it really well.

Personally, I prefer to talk to people face to face, and because of this I don't like talking in the phone. This Beamer thing could be a godsend to me, but then, sometimes I'm so bad tempered when I pick up the phone that I wouldn't like the other person to see me anyway. And it's relatively expensive... A good wireless phoneset costs just around 25 bucks and enables you to walk around while talking. And then, although I don't like talking in the phone, I like to walk around a lot while talking. I'm sure there are more people like me. Ultimately, it seems like being able to see the other person is only advantageous for the one who sees, and not for the one who is seen.
