It is a completely white desk, so it could be that it is the lack of a pattern that causes the probs.

The mouse is a MS Wheelmouse Optical (very good IMO), I think I will try the Ratpadz GS - it looks amazing :))

    Thanks for the help everyone.

  6. Re:Mouse Pad? on Seven Color LED Mousepad · · Score: 1

I have a painted (shiny) desk.
Trying to use my optical mouse on this is impossible and results in it not moving anywhere.

I am looking for a nice big (A4 size roughly) flat black good quality mat with no extras like wrist rests or calculators or LEDs, but can't find any anywhere (in the UK that is).

At the moment I am having to use an old folder :S

  7. MOD PARENT UP on AT&T Wireless Announces Music ID Service · · Score: 1

This is an amazing technique and has served me well hundreds of times. Just remember to put the lyric quote on speech marks and then lyrics outside of it. Put any other distinct words outside of the speech marks as well (not things like the, and etc). If you can't find it then remove the speech marks and remove common words until it is very distinct. Good luck, and it is free too!!

Maybe someone at the Evening Standard is a /. regular and just nicked it from the earlier story.

FREEZE! HANDS UP! This is the BSA! We know you have illegal routers that you bought 100% legally. We are coming in, and want everyone to lie flat on the ground away from the routers. Comply and no one gets hurt (well financially everybody except us gets hurt).

    No?!?

  18. Big Corporations on Hardware Manufacturers Gouging Customers · · Score: 1

Surely this is only a storm in a tea cup.
For large companies who require the support contracts, they will not usually buy equipment on eBay, but through their corporate supplier.
For smaller companies who would buy hardware second hand, they are the kind who can make do without supports contracts, and happily live in a legal "grey area".
Although it is morally stingy on the company's part, I don't think it will do too much to normal people, who will just use it "illegally".

  19. Inter-Battle LinkUp on The Soldier is the Network · · Score: 2, Funny

Wow! This has so much potential!
The soldiers could install CS or UT2003 on their HUDs, and then play with other soldiers over the net who are githing in different battles, or just training at HQ - ultimate VR!!!!

They could then pretend to kill people on the game, whilst killing people in real life!

  20. Ip Addresses on The Soldier is the Network · · Score: -1, Interesting

I haven't RTFA so mod me down if you must.

I guess that each soldier will have his own IP address, but will they be publically addressable, or just 192.168.xxx.xxx ones or the like..... If they are, then there will be one heluva NAT to let them access the internet for data (and porn) purposes. On the other hand, imagine if a script kiddie got hold of a soldier's IP and began DDOSing him, and making him unable to report back, or sending him bogus information that could kill him.

Maybe this will be the killer app for IPv6 for the DOD...
