    This is going to be a living hell. The morons are bad enough as it is wandering around. Imagine being trapped in an already noisy enviroment, and with no option to walk away. Hell, I tell you, hell.

    Yes, I carry a cell, but I barely use it at all. Maybe 3-4 times a week on average, and the calls are of the "Where are you?" or "Pick item X up" type. I don't yell when I use it, and I try not to talk when there's other people around. I figure if I don't want to have to listen to their crap, I can at least not be hypcritical and isolate myself before calling.

    Although I agree with others, it doesn't really compare to FreeCache. I still wonder why that never got much attention. It's an insanely great idea. Ah well. Between that, Corla, and BitTorrent, you never have to worry about /.'ing again when you submit your tiny personal site.

    In other news (for the morons who continue posting and whining), you can still remove the it prefix from the /. URL, removing the fugly colour scheme. And there was much rejoicing in the land.

    Not sure if you can implement this in Windows or not, but giving focus to tabs on mouseover would be most appreciated. Very small thing, granted, but I'd love it. Let the delay and such be user-definable.

    And no, I wouldn't consider a life without meat to be enjoyable. Meat is good. Large slabs of almost raw meat, dripping with blood... so good.

    First, yes, I know it's where 50% die, but considering that's around 1/7 of LD-50, I'm not real concerned. Besides, that's an extremely rare event. Usually when our Tech Team gets together, the most I have is around 500mg. Doesn't even start to get me jittery.

    As for respect for one's body... yes, I realize I'm not invincible. That being said, I'd rather live a short and well-enjoyed life (such as eating 24 oz. steaks) than a long and miserable one (such as being a vegetarian).

    Fools! Try drinking SkyRocket spiked 24 ozs. bottles of Code Red, or better yet, Bawls! 100mg per oz... Just don't try it straight. Penguins soaked in it are quite good, though.

    What's the most caffeine you've had, anyway? My above experience with SkyRocket spiking (plus spiked OJ and Coffee in the morning) resulted in about 1g (not mg, mind you) of caffeine intake over a period of about 6 hours. First time I've ever noticed my heartrate go up from caffeine. With my weigh of about 115 lbs, the LD-50 for me is around 7 grams.

    Yes, I agree. It cracks me up when people whine about their ping getting up to 30ms. I put up with 300ms regularly, and a good day is low 200's. When I mention this to the people I've just killed, they oddly don't have an answer.

    I figure once I get broadband, I'm gonna do a ton better.

    Now then, on the subject of stringing something between two pigeons... what about Toshiba's new 40GB 1.8" drives? They weigh about ~ 2 ozs., and are ~ 2x3x.3". Now, the average pigeon is about 1 lb., or a little under. So, if you've got two of 'em, that's 1/16 of their weight. Methinks they could handle that. And as for bandwidth, that's 6MBps, unless my math is screwed up. Which is all too likely. Anyway, um, yeah...

    As I said, while 4 switches might not take you long, with only 24 permutations, with 5 switches, there's 120, with 6, 720... And if you go further, as was said, and add 3-way switches into the mix, someone is going to have to really want your data to get past that.

    Unless, of course, they just open the case, and bypass all your fancy tricks...

    Three-way? You mean three position switches? Yes, 'twould work... except simple SPST switches are dirt cheap, and seeing a whole bank of 'em is dang impressive:-) It'd be cool to have to line them up in a certain order to get it to boot.

    While a dedicated person could easily get past this, there's still the cool factor. I mean, c'mon... slide a card in and it boots? How cool is that?

    I suppose one could lock your system case, but again, someone could break the locks. This, like everything, is a compromise in security/useability. For instance, I have a military surplus .50 ammo box that I store my personal stuff in. Letters, junk, Penguin Mints... It's locked up with ~ .75" (1.9cm for the rest of the world) hardened steel chain, and a Masterlock combination lock. The paper combination has been destroyed, and the only version other than the one in my head is PGP encrypted. From an average users' viewpoint, this is pretty tough to get into. Granted, with a hacksaw, you could break the chain in a few minutes. With a jigsaw with a metal blade, about 30 seconds. But I don't expect people to actually go attacking my box, so I don't have it covered with taser turrets or the like.

    Pretty sucky analogy, I guess, but hey, it works...

    Definitely. If the people realized that all these Me-Too acts are stupid, they might stop downloading them, and then where would the RIAA be? 90% of the stuff I download is either older, obscure, or at least non-mainstream. I can't see the RIAA coming after me for downloading Pink Floyd or Rammstein.

    OTOH, why don't more people listen to local bands? I would much rather support a local band I've met and talked with than any mainstream band.

    Seems to me you'd have to be pretty stupid to admit guilt. I mean, if they don't already know you're file-swapping, it's bloody unlikely they will in the future. (unless you're doing really massive trading, of course)

    Of course, I stopped using P2P quite a bit ago. IRC works just as well, if not better, and you have access to better quality files, to boot. And the RIAA doesn't (yet) track it.

    I have My Documents renamed to Stephan's Crap Dump, and store my videos and Miscellany in there. MP3's and FLAC rips have their own folder. And then I have a Downloads folder with patches/demos/warez. (-:Stephonovich:-)

    Unfortunately, people beat me to the obvious Matrix jokes. But ah well.

    If they can figure out a way to get a reasonable amount of power without adversely effecting your health, this could be most excellent. I don't think we'll be powering our laptops and cell phones with this, (although a cell phone doesn't suck that much power) but for powering a pacemaker, as someone else suggested, this would be quite useful.

    Also of use would be powering the so-called "Soldier of the Future". If our military is indeed to have Deus Ex-esque implants, then this could power them effeciently. I also wonder if this could power night vision goggles...

    I agree that's it's old hat, but it's refreshing to see that more and more people are realizing that commercial products are not the thing in existence.

    As for people posting that Windows is better than Linux, well, that would lying, now wouldn't it?
