OMG that is *the* only think i've literally spewed my drink over and maybe woke up my other renters over.. ever. that is *hytsterical*.. LOL.. hope you don't mind me quoting that all the time from now on.. hahahahahahahaha
Hehehehe, I've got a windows xp cd that came with some dell...the place it's from is using some other big organization wide license and this cd-key isn't being used on many machines... In fact it's being used on one. Mine. Anyway I've installed and re-installed (good to keep your windows install fresh)...I've also changed hardware and had to re-activate once or twice. It's a legit copy of windows. Now MS might not WANT or claim that you can transfer a license from an OEM machine to one you built yourself. But whatever. I don't give a rats ass what they say, it's NOT a pirated copy lol.
Now it thinks it's pirated and won't install anymore. Joy. My machine is kind of screwed up because of some hosed lexmark inkjet printer drivers. (ditched that mofo and got a $5 used color laser that works fine lol)... I can still apply patches.. for now anyway ? But ms says the cd-key is pirated now, I guess once you've installed and re-installed and re-activated due to hardware changes more than 4 or 5 times it thinks it's pirated.
Now I can understand if 10,000 people are trying to use the same cd-key. But get real. It should give you 20 or 30 installs before you hafta crack it to use a legit copy... I really should just switch to linux. Anyone have experience getting World of warcraft going in cedega? On an ATI card? (yeah yeah I know)... Then again, I couldn't play dvd-audio discs or whatever in linux either blahhhh... I think I'll go home and pirate a cracked copy of windows server 2003 or something to avoid the trouble....

My dad has been logging all his life. I've lived in a logging camp for over half my life. In the 80's the logging industry in the U.S. was booming. In the early 90's, stuff started getting shut down by the environmental movement. My dad lost his job. Eventually they re-opened some selective logging where we had lived previously and we went back. But it was NOTHING like the booming logging industry in the 80's. Maybe some of the huge logging corporations are making big profits, but the small operations in Alaska sure aren't. Almost all are struggling to survive. My dad moves from one site to another almost every month (literally). He makes good money. By good I mean middle class, prolly $40,000 a year. He's quality control and extremely experienced. He probably made the same cutting back in the 80's . Wood prices went up because supply went down. And sure you can site statistics saying supply went up if you'd like. That's fine, I'm sure it did. But did the supply of high-quality hemlock an sitka-spruce go up? LoL.. no. Towns in southeast alaska (ketchican anyone?) shut down their mills and people lost their jobs, economies collapsed. Also, a lot of our stuff goes oversees and if they feel like screwing us some year, they do. Lot of american companies (like rayonier for example, which is a very good company in general) are starting to hook up with russian companies and log siberia because the logging isn't happening as much here. Guess what folks, it costs money to ship that shit... (off topic, the engines on those log-ships are HUGE tour one someday if you can)
There is a "wood cartel" but it isn't the loggers, sorry. There's some big corporations that buy lumber but they have been screwing over the actual loggers and mills!
You rant about the loggers screwing you over, getting free roads, etc. I've NEVER seen anyone in southeast alaska get free roads EVER. Hobart Bay alaska... Find a suitable blasting area, blast, get rock, build road. The government didn't pay for it sorry~LOL. Maybe you live in some fantasy land where you consider the roads built so the public can access the forrest to be "free roads". In which case you better complain that UPS is using your free roads to deliver your latest video card(which of course they pay for with their gas tax don't they?!)
In your third paragraphy you state "why are only lumber corporations allowed to take trees". Huh? At least here in Alaska we are allowed to take some for wood. We have some nice cedar boards out there in our back yard cut from Alaskan timber! My dad used an "alaska sawmill" which is a chainsaw on a slide basically, to make the boards. Perfectly legal!!! If you are so interested in getting some lumber, get a little land or get a permit or check your laws in your area. Then go get some. A few trees will go a long way. Shoot if you live in a rainy area why not plant some on your property? What? you live in a city? doh!
If you came wanting to buy some wood at a reasonable rate directly from a small logging operation *they would be happy to provide it*... Lot of the big log buyers in the U.S. are just stuck whining about imports and exports to and from canada right now.
Clinton actually *DID* shut down a lot of the logging. (still i'd rather have clinton than bush sigh)... The clinton years pretty much killed logging in southeast alaska. It's maybe 10% of its former self. We have idiots in DC that try to run alaska it's so sad. And the so-called liberals (i'm a liberal myself, but some are far out of touch with reality, which is why i said so-called.. trying to control everyone else's life does not count as liberal) whining because bush wants to give more control of their land to the states hahaha. Yeah. One of the only things bush has tried to do that I support. Man I wish alaska was it's own country.
now we can enjoy that famous dell quality and rebranding of other people's products in phones, tool...with my old university's experience with the poor quality of their laptops I just gotta wonder why so many institutions buy them
First of all, I LIKE the idea of having a great desktop WM that keeps things simple yet still delivers a full environment. Gnome isn't there yet, but if they can LISTEN to the users then it will be soon.
It's great to be simple. However, being simple also includes being able to do *all* the simple things in a simple way, not just a few. Remember mac OS 8? Remember how easy that was, how things just worked? Gnome needs to strive to be like that. First of all, YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO EDIT THE MENUS!!! Of course if your distro happens to love you that day, you can go to a special//whatever-it-is in nautilus but.. yeah.. rofl.. so unusuable. Oh.. my... word.. please dear god. In KDE and Windows, editing the menu is a simple simple task that is both fast to do and newbies can figure it out.
Nautilus is awful. Please let me be able to have tabs? Please? (If this has changed, let me know!). GNOME NEEDS a powerful hardware device manager dealy like windows device manager (admit it, device mangler works fine in 2k and xp.. it works better than anything else i've seen for a regular user)...I know there is different setups in different linux defaults, but provide the tools and some sane defaults that people can "hook" to when they make their distro..and config stuff for samba, nfs, network settings, display resolution and drivers. At the VERY least, please dear god something like kde's configuration gui.. please?
No, windows explorer isn't the best file manager... it works, and it works a helluva lot better than the gnome default. The best one imho is included in KDE!!! It's gotten to the point where if I could run (yes I know, but lets say natively etc) the KDE environment on windows, i'd set that up for everyone and for myself too on this box. It's just...just about perfect really.
Yes, I am a windows user. This system has XP with the 2k style interface, and most stuff turned off. It runs great, it plays games etc and openoffice which is what I do.. The box in the corner is kubuntu. My old portege3110ct laptop (p2-300, 128mb ram, no cdrom) runs arch linux and kde 3.4. Now, I'm no linux guru not even close, more of a newb, but gnome, if they refuse to implement any gui tools well my god PLEASE can they at least look at the arch linux config files that you hafta edit to make it work? Cry...they are so easy...if you could just have a text config file that simple for say.. editing your menus and stuff.../gulp...
Yes, I'm a kde user in linux. Think KDE is slow and bloated? Then you haven't used KDE in a while, have you? KDE 3.4 runs great on my 300mhz 128mb ram laptop. Not just "useable" but screams..fast..instant response in the kde apps. Zero complaints. 3.2 and 2.x might have been slow but this is no longer the case. KDE is nice, you see, when you first start it up on your new user, it automatically detects the speed of your hardware and presents you with a sane default setting for eye-candy. You can have your system pretty and slow if you want, or I could turn off even more options for even faster response. But the defaults are sane, and if you have been a windows user and wanna play on my lappy, I can click the windows UI and the users don't get lost at all. The ability to open a new konqueror tab and just type in smb://192.168.0.1/mp3s is fucking amazing. Nautilus, take notes on the tabbed thing please? In closing (sorry about the huge rant), I know gnome isn't "bad" but I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would use it when KDE is better in every single regard, including performance, default settings, ease of configuration, and ease of use.
hahahahaha*gasping for air* hahahah... excuse me... lol... lmao.. hahahaha *can't stop laughing*... i always figured WoW, after a while, would turn out like EQ, wher the powerful classes whined more than the weaker ones... guess I was right! Yeah... it's hard for rogues to get off the first hit in a one on one pvp... really hard.. not like they could walk up undetected huh? That could NEVER happen...!!! Rogues were whining hardcore at the thought of track hidden being upgraded... looks like it got upgraded anyway this patch! lol
"But with two evenly skilled players at level 50+, a Rogue is almost ALWAYS at a disadvantage" Uhhhhhhh....well you obviously think you are a skilled player so you are using your potions and poisons i'm sure. The basis of the rogue class is being stealthy and unfair. Now, this causes people to complain about rogues when they shuld stfu but...It also causes rogues to forget that they can't expect to be as good when they dont get that surprise attack in. Really, the only class that really gets much as far as rogue-awareness is hunters. Stuff like sitting on your freezing trap when you are medding up, etc. Flare, and now track hidden is goign to be fixed they say. But that is only one class. Any cloth person that you get the jump on should prolly be as good as dead. Now, if you don't get the jump on them, well they should be able to win more than half the time I would hope. A rogue complaining that they can't win in pvp when they don't get the jump on someone is like a mage complaining that they can't win in PVP if they are out of mana.. well DUH that is the point of your class. And in GROUP PVP I have heard *no* complaints about the power of rogues. Lets wait and see where things are when the battlegrounds come out.
Rogues are the number 1 played class... maybe not on your server... but they are number one! Why? Because they are a powerful class. Too powerful? No, they are just fine...They don't need to be nerfed at all. But come on, useless in the end game? Rrriiggghtttttt.
Reminds me of rogues whining that they were useless in the elemental planes in EQ...OHHH the ae's on a few mobs in each plane kill me, nevermind that I out damage people on the othe other mobs! Omg i'm not the best all the time something is wrong n3rf everyone 3lse!~ And yes I raided the EP's every week way back in the day, before gates etc and they ruined eq even worse lol. It was also funny to watch the people on the necromancer boards whine about their stuff, when they were one of the few people who could really solo for xp well in the higher planes. But ohhhh they thought they were sooo persecuted.
In world of warcraft, rogues aren't godly.. but they are *JUST FINE*... paladins and shammies are prolly the most "godly" comparatively, but still not unfairly good, they are just fine. Granted, shaman might be a bit too good in the fact that it sure seems like if the person is a hoarde, ther is a good chance they are a shammy. But that is prolly due more to there needing to be another class or two on each side, lots of people like to tank and heal, and on hoarde there is (obviously) no paladin soooo..
It's not like EQ where it's a full time job to play. You can login to WoW for 30mins and get stuff done. Running your friend's low level alts through instances is one of the most fun and fulfilling things in the game, and can be done in 2hrs or less. No major time commitment in WoW. If you aren't having fun with one character, put them on hold and use them to tradeskill items for your new alt. I made a warrior, a gnome too! Sure, he can't solo well like your rogue or my hunter or warlock but it is still fun fast paced gameplay.
Yeah, don't feel bad. DSL in any rural area in the US (or cable) or whatever is unlikely as hell. (Unless you live in alaska like I do fortunately, and every little town in southeast has dsl and cable lol, the rest of the states aren't like that tho).
Cell phone coverage in the US is good... IN THE CITIES.... Otherwise it's a crapshoot. 'Course, you can get a big antenna/amp for your car and get great reception just about anywhere when you are traveling...
Just saying, broadband in the US has a longggg way to go before it is everywhere too.
No you can rent under 25. Usually its you can't rent under 21 or 22 (unless you are military). They just charge you up the fucking ass to rent under 25, it's retarded. Risk drops off as you go through the ages 17, 18, 19, and a 20 year old is barely any more risk at all than a 25 year old..../shrug
However, instead of using it as a curse, I used it as a blessing when i was 20 "hey I can't rent a car, can I borrow your guys jeep?" etc;p hehe
If it werent for pirates I wouldn't have this machete and this green macaw parrot resting on my shoulder keeping me awake at night saying "arrrRRRr!".. damn pirates.

It shuld have been marketed like the P-Pro. Too much for the desktop user, but if you want one you can afford it and you can build it/buy it!
Christian here, believe in the big bang, and believe science gives good evidence to support it. Do not believe in evolution and don't believe there is enough evidence for it, if there proof comes out then I will accept it:) (Don't flame my beliefs just saying)
Now, if I look on wikipedia for evolution, I DO NOT WANT to read a thing saying why it is wrong. I want to read about the theory of evolution. The bottom of the article shuld have links and there might be a criticism of it etc. If i read an article on christianity i don't want it to be a criticism of why it's wrong, or a proponent of why it's right. I just want it to be the facts, what the people believe in, how it originated etc. Then at the bottom links to theories and ideas supporting or not in support shuld be presented.. and for the most part, I have seen it done this way on Wiki.. bravo
"Unlike just about everyone else, MS can't adopt open source since it kills the only way they've figured out how to make money: charge top dollar for commodity software."
I'm not saying your whole post is wrong or anything. But this part is wrong. Look at where MS is going. The last several years they have been moving away from depending on software. They have started realizing what is about to happen, and they are moving to a position where they will provide the hardware you want to have to exit in the digital age. One word: x-box. I believe this is MS diversifying because they know they need something more than windows and office.
shit! If a company figures out how to benefit people AND increase their profits, marketshare, and mindshare, then that is GREAT imho!!! That's the way it should be! Do good things and get rewarded. You can take an easier path (not gonna say omg ms is evil or anything, though obviously look at their past, and look at ibm in the 80's, look at sco etc) of taking the approach of exploiting people and excluding others for the sake of locking people in for profit.
Ibm is behaving great, and I'll support them. My mom bought a thinkpad, if I buy a laptop it'll be a thinkpad, if my friends ask for something portable (not a desktop replacement laptop but a portable one)... they will get sent to ibm... now, if IBM changes their behavior, I can too. Until then (if ever), they get my support. Simple and fair.
Hate to use the stupid "apples to oranges" cliche but flawed analogy. Plus you can always re-finance your loan through someone else for a better deal!!!/anyway (but yeah, it shouldn't be illegal, but the whole exclusive licensing of something that if you think about it, should REALLY be public domain for that kind of thing)
I mean you shouldn't be able to use their "logo" and say it's official but you should be able to include the names and stats of the NFL teams and whatnot.
No sorry.
YOU CAN refuse a search of your vehicle (at least speaking from Alaska law here). The exceptions are if stuff is in plain view. Also, if the officer fears for his safety, usually he can check for weapons in places that you could reach to from where you are sitting in the car. If you are in the back seat of his car tho, he is in no danger of you grabbing a weapon from your car, he cannot search it without a warrant (unless the object he wants to examine is in plain view). (hope i got this right, once again, this is true IN ALASKA maybe not other places)
Actually, it is there if you live in AK.. Just another reason to live in Alaska... Where we have a constitutional right to privacy:) That's why you can have up to 4oz of weed in your own home here and not get arrested for it~

Risk drops off as you go through the ages 17, 18, 19, and a 20 year old is barely any more risk at all than a 25 year old.... /shrug
However, instead of using it as a curse, I used it as a blessing when i was 20 "hey I can't rent a car, can I borrow your guys jeep?" etc ;p hehe
If it werent for pirates I wouldn't have this machete and this green macaw parrot resting on my shoulder keeping me awake at night saying "arrrRRRr!".. damn pirates.
If Intel released them at a low price and with desktop motherboards that were affordable. If an average geek could build the latest itanium system for $200 more than the latest athlon system, well, people would buy it because it's something different, it performs well, and because they want to mess with the architecture. It shuld have been marketed like the P-Pro. Too much for the desktop user, but if you want one you can afford it and you can build it/buy it!
No they aren't. The gimp's sleepin. What, wake it up you say? /sorry
Christian here, believe in the big bang, and believe science gives good evidence to support it. Do not believe in evolution and don't believe there is enough evidence for it, if there proof comes out then I will accept it :) (Don't flame my beliefs just saying)
Then at the bottom links to theories and ideas supporting or not in support shuld be presented.. and for the most part, I have seen it done this way on Wiki.. bravo
"Unlike just about everyone else, MS can't adopt open source since it kills the only way they've figured out how to make money: charge top dollar for commodity software." I'm not saying your whole post is wrong or anything.
I have not seen the BS:G stuff yet, and I want to (don't have tv but i'll grab the torrents and rent the dvds as soon as they hit blockbuster)...
/sighhs
What I'd really like to see is BRING BACK FIREFLY and BRING BACK B5: CRUSADE....
trek was cool when it was the movies 2, 4, and 6, and i liked nemisis and first contact as well but eh..
as for series, voyager was SOO BAD as to be completely unwatchable. The only watchable one was DS9 and thats only cuz it was a b5 copy.
I was for this deal before I was against it /sorry
Hate to use the stupid "apples to oranges" cliche but flawed analogy. Plus you can always re-finance your loan through someone else for a better deal!!! /anyway (but yeah, it shouldn't be illegal, but the whole exclusive licensing of something that if you think about it, should REALLY be public domain for that kind of thing)
Where we have a constitutional right to privacy :) That's why you can have up to 4oz of weed in your own home here and not get arrested for it~
and now you can use them to get data that you coulnd't get other places.. (someone above mentioned the GIS info for europe that you can get from them).. and the terraserver stuff for area51.. funny how times change lol
