The main point was to let us know it was a FUN parody of it, and not just any parody. I mean, I wouldn't have bought this shrink wrapped CD if I didn't know for sure that it was going to bring me happiness. I mean, that is what all these products and services we are purchasing this holiday season is for, right? Happiness with products! Teach the young ones to consume while you still can!
It isn't as bad as it was about a year ago. It appears to be clearing up, and the mod system seems to be a little less biased than it was before. I remember if you said anything logical about liberals a year ago, you got modded to hell, then the same with conservatives. We seem to be modding the Windows bashers and others who use prejudgement straight to -1.
... I used to get in my Inbox all the time. These people use spam to market their product, don't go their way. How legal is this stuff anyways? What happens when a cop pulls you over, and notices the camera on his dash can't see your plate, he will know that you put that stuff on it. In America at least, it would probably be under defacing government property.
That's West Paducah, thank you very much. I went to high school at heath high. When people ask where I'm from, I tell them I went to the school where a bunch of kids got shot. Everyone in the town jokes around about it, as it is what we are nationally known for. I see the paralyzed girl all the time, she is filthy rich because of it. The families of the dead are even richer.
I hope this just doesn't become a thing like DVD +/- R. The two formats battled each-other, and now we have drives that support both formats, but have to buy different media. Why can't it just be one or the other?
This type of conflict, and divinity is what keeps open source out of the mainstream enterprise. Everyone is pulling everything in separate directions. People think of how things theoretically should be in a perfect world, and design their applications with those theories in mind. If people would come out of the box, and look at everything with an objective in mind, and say, "Hey, this is how it needs to be done to be accepted into the main stream, lets do it!", then things would start moving forward. Because apple doesn't want to make X11 compatibility in OS X streamlined doesn't mean the app shouldn't be ported. This whole, "If they did this, we wouldn't have to port it to Aqua, it would just run X11, and it would be hunky dory." The fact is, the reason for that hump between X11 and Aqua is to make the interface designers redesign the user interface so that it will be more streamlined and not stick out like a horse and buggy on the interstate. That's a good example, we should all be using horse and buggies because of pollution, so we are going to only design and create horse and buggies while Microsoft makes a pinto. Sure, the pinto sucks, but your horse and buggy may be all well in theory, but it isn't what people want.
I'm sure once Microsoft and the RIAA catch on to it, they will pass new laws to stop this from happening. I wish Microsoft would hurry up and outlaw spyware while they are at it.
This Techhype coming from our government is like watching an infomercial on this revolutionary air purifier that will keep you from being obese, increase my sex drive, and make me a more well rounded, financially stable person. Only three easy payments of $59.95
The open office people have never been too apple-friendly. I doubt they won't be changing their outlook with version 2. The only way to run it will be through the X11 server, and in that case, it isn't very clean or elegant looking. Firefox has done a good job at maintaining a windows/mac/linux version that doesn't look like a sore thumb when placed in other environments. The best bet would be for apple to design their own office suite if they don't want to rely on Microsoft Office's. A native, clean, elegant version of OpenOffice will never be available for the Mac.
The way I heard it, it sounded like it was copying itself from the CD to the machine without the users consent. I assumed this would be called a virus as it is replicating itself. Maybe trend micro's quiz didn't educate me very well
After finding more information about it, it sounds as if it blocks programs from accessing the CD drive that are in sony's list.
Step 1: Rename your Windows Server App to ITUNES3.EXE Step 2: Put all the config files for that server app on a CD Step 3: Insert Sony music CD into secondary drive Step 4: The DRM that installed itself without your consent crashed your mission critical server. Sony is liable! Step 5: ??? Step 6: Profit!
If it installs this rootkit through autorun when you put the CD into your Windows machine, how is this any different from a worm? Just because it isn't spread through the internet doesn't change the fact that it is a virus.
I'm a freshman at Murray State University. I'm a TA in CSC 232, and I'm President of the Murray State Linux Users Group. Man, this place feels like a high school that I live at. Our CS program is a joke, but I'm going here anyways. I know almost everything they teach here, but I hate these stupid classes I'm taking like CIV 101.
The mighty mouse has an extra mighty scroll wheel. At times, it is so powerful that you can scroll where you can't normally scroll. If he tried this with a logitech mouse, it would have never worked, and the test would have passed.
I've been working on an AJAX based IRC gateway. It works with UnrealIRCd by linking as a server, and then linking the IRC chatrooms to the Web ones. It can work with or without IRC. I have a demo of it up here. It currently isn't linked to my IRC network, as the guy who runs my IRC stuff switched to some other IRCd. I thought if it was well developed, it could help modernize IRC. Once I'm done with it and have all the things it needs implemented, I'm going to GPL it.
I read the article and it answered my question. Now I have a new one: Why couldn't an app just open the.lnk file, find out the destination, and then follow through in the first place? They are only changing the behavior of something that already works fine. Microsoft seems to be doing this with a lot of things, and simply calling behavior changes new featues. I mean in Vista you click start, and press R to select run, but realize that an R is put into a search field built into the start menu. How is making minor changes to the behavior of the OS/Shell make the company innovative? People don't like change, and long time windows users had a hard time moving to XP, but the behavior was similar to that in 98/2000, so people were able to accept it. Now it's like they are saying, "We didn't screw it up this time, lets try again with delayed releases and redesigning the interface to be even more resource intensive and clunky than before!" It seems like they are taking their time to make sure every dialog is updated and completely different from their previous generation of software, so that when it comes out, it will all be the same under the hood as Windows NT 4 with tweaks to make it run a little more efficient on the latest hardware, and it will look so malformed and act so sparatic, it will seem like a new product all together.
I think you mean slashdot.org thank you very much

You crazy non-American English speakers. Running around smoking fags and eating your fish and chips.

...but as a BestBuy employee in the GeekSquad, I'd just like to take a few moments to say that retail sucks. Good thing I'm in school.

When did you coin the term? I see it back on usenet used in 1992:
Check it out
IANAL, but if you are going to put it in your sig like that, you need to put (tm) after the word TechHype, and probably a little EULA too.

Individuals and corporations can claim rights to the moon? I got dibs on the whole thing. ALL MINE! Where do I get my deed?

Since I have no mod points, let me be the first to say:
BURN!

Why would Check for Updates be under help? I'd like better user interface organization.
What bothers me is that it is even in there. What's next? GNAA ads up and down the sides of slashdot, and hidden links to goatse in the story?
Oh, and I for one welcome our new robotic overlords
