Exactly. Installing new apps is soly the territory of the sysadmin. No employees should be able to install their own software; this *is* a support nightmare, regardless of how you meant your comment
I actually clicked on "Read more..." for the sole purpose of seeing someone post about how "virii" is just plain silly. I didn't expect it to be the very top post, though. Excellent work! Slashdot always delivers what you most expect.
I wonder if Return of the King will truly earn it, as it looks like it will deviate from the book even more than The Two Towers, having cut out Saruman and all. I fear I will be seeing more Hollywood-style action scenes that take away from the severity of the original story.
Exactly. Nothing will make the myriad of other distro's disappear, and with it the confusion over what to choose. What huge amount of PR will be able to promote UserLinux as THE Linux distro of choice for the Enterprise Desktop? I agree that Linux's strongest point is also its weakest: namely the extreme diversity makes some user-friendliness harder than necessary. But I don't see that changing anytime soon. Thus, Linux desktops will stay a little confusing for a while (at least to the semi-computer-illiterate).
This is what you get when geeks spend too much time behind their computers. Obviously, this has everything to do with those funny-looking creatures with the weird bumps on their chest. On MTV they're always prancing around saying stuff about being "hot" so I assume it's called "hotting around." I don't get MTV.
Sure there is. SCO is obviously old news and we need something new to point at and laugh out loud while inwardly we cry because this stuff is pushed onto us from above.
Problem here is, of course, that all of your packages need to be maintained and distributed for your packaging system. You cannot simply download this cool program from the developer's website and install it, unless he's made packages for your distro-- which, let's face it, is a little confusing for your average luser who just wants to download a file, browse to it using his nice graphical explorer-like interface and click it to install. Linux might benefit from a step-based, easy, per-application, graphical, STANDARD InstallShield-like thingie.
Who says the builders of the Earth Simulator Centre knew of Deep Thought's existence? The poor inhabitant of this artificial planet didn't even know they were merely part of an elaborate computer program, let alone know what created it!
No reason he can't take future releases closed source.
I'm wondering about this. I've never read the GPL with much attention, but as the owner of the code and license he could actually release works based off a GPL'ed project (that he owns) as non-GPL? What about the contributions by others? Would he not have to get the others to agree on a change of license?
I don't think, according to the GPL, it's that easy to just close your GPL'ed source. Does the GPL state that if you (completely) own the code, you are free to chance the license at any time?
Well, if you vote neither this doesn't apply. If you pick one, however, the other can't be true. You can't believe that Jesus Christ is the saviour and then not accept him as such and still expect to be saved-- IF you believe in Christianity. If Christianity is true, a lot of other stuff must be untrue and it's very hard not to judge is you consider that.
This is exactly my point! Can you imagine this nothing in any real sense? No, because it doesn't exist in the same realm as you perceive yourself to be.
No, I just think it is a good site. I don't actually know if there's anything on there about the Dead Sea Scrolls, but most probably there is (and lots more).
You just voice anti-Slashdot opinion somewhere else, mister! We have learned to like our daily share of "same story, different country" posts!
Windows? What's this? An alternative for Linux, or something?

:) fp!?
I can't believe they didn't use SlackVote. Everybody knows MicroVote is evil!

sometimes I just want to give old Steve Jobs a hand.
Am I the only one that finds this remark a little disturbing? My Gods, the mental image I got from this!
Being afraid of something is not the same as having a phobia, though. You can be afraid of certain things without it affecting your every day life.
*sigh* Why don't people get the plural of virus right? This is why babies cry.

Eh? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
It's Microsoft, remember?

Well, I for one welcome our robot dancer overlords.
Sure it will do something, if you're root or have daft file privs set up... You need to mention that.
Mount my Red Hat!

What are you talking about? This thing has a range of up to 15 feet with a strength of 17+ AT LEAST.

Remotely exploitable vulnerability found in IIS!
