The wackos who absolutely want Europe to assess its christian origins have found all sorts of signs, coincidences, numbers proving their point. I have even heard them saying that 55 is Satan's number ! Bullshit.

Mind you, I don't negate the christian heritage, but the birth of the European Council, of the CEE, and all the European organizations have nothing to do with God, Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and the Holy Ghost.

Six centuries before Christ, the greek city of Sybaris granted a patent and exclusive rights of exploitation to the inventor of a new gastronomical specialty. In fact, the 12 stars do not represent the 12 fouding members.

In 1955, The European Community had only 6 members, and no flag. That flag was the European Council's flag, and that organization had nothing to do with what would become the CEE. The European Council had more than 12 members, yet had chosen to have 12 stars on the flag because the number 12 was a symbol of completeness, and the circle a symbol of unity. The European Council then offered to all the other european organizations to share that same flag, and they adopted it one after the other.

Chicago Official : No you're not. I'm going to sue you Ensues lots of blah blah blah about First Amendment Rights, as if it has anything to do with it.

    Scene 2, The Court

After a lot of blah blah blah about First Amendment Rights, as if it has anything to do with it.

Counsellor (orating) : ... and, anyway, how would my client know it was a copyrighted work, when there is absolutely no mention of that anywhere ? No ... Judge (suddenly waking up from his nap): Hey hey ! That's an interesting point. Please develop. Counsellor : Thank you. I am honored, Your Honor. Well, since the invention of copyright, copyrighted works show a mention with the date and the owner of the copyright, so that we know when it is over, or whom we should speak to if need be? There is no mention whatsoever on that sculpture or near that sculpture, that is why I ask the case to be dismissed. If it is not, we'll consider sueing Chicago for unduly limiting the bona fide public enjoyment of a public park... Chicago : Objection. That argument is so flawed we... Judge : Dismissed ! Look, My Honor is there to say what is flawed, or not. I'm not sure that one is. I remember taking a photograph of that painting, you know, by that guy Picosso, Picossa, whatever, in a museum. Cultural manifestation organized by the French embassy, and nobody said anything. And it was the French, dammit! Everybody knows how those bastards love to embarass a good ole American. Now His Honor, I mean My Honor, I mean I will retire and think about all this. We'll meet tomorrow and I'll tell you my decision. Judge rushes out (need to pee but doesn't want anybody to know). The Court is slowly emptying...

What will happen tomorrow ? What will the judge decide ? You'll know in the next episode

I think they have complete idiots reading not only the logs, but the mail too. Or maybe idiots who don't read at all :

One day I couldn't access to many sites I'm used to visit, I did some traceroute and found 2 nodes down, 1 in NY, another in South California. I wrote to the companies. The first one answered within an hour, saying they hadn't found any problem (it was working again), the second never answered, but the server was up within an hour too.

I had sent a third mail to my ISP, before anything had been fixed, explaining the problem, with the same traceroute attached, saying that I knew they hadn't anything to do with it, but that it could be useful to know, with the precision that I was running Mozilla on FreeBSD, and personnally hadn't any problem.

Two days later I received a mail explaining that I had a bad configuration and had to check some option (forgot what it was) in Internet Explorer !

It is interesting to see so many Americans expose how selfish France was in reality whith its participation in the US's war of independence then explain how the USA helped France in WWII, forgetting how reluctantly they did it (they even thought Roosevelt had purposedly let the Japanese raid Pearl Harbor to drag the US in the war), more than 2 years after the beginning of the war, and only after being themselves attacked, and after Germany had declared war on them.

Given the long history of "unselfish" American interventions, I have some doubts about their help in WWI.

    Nifty, these online-bookmarks!

I have always thought bookmarks should be independent from browsers. And download management as well. For the bookmarks I have tried the webserver solution, but I got fed up with always having to edit the bookmarks page.

Now I use another solution, that works if you have enough screen space. It works with all the browsers on my box. I have a folder with subfolders where I put all the ookmarks, just dragging them from the address bar of the running browser. And when I want to go to some page, I just drag the URL from my bookmarks folder to the browser window, address bar, or tab bar, depending on the browser and what I want to do.
The bookmarks folder and its subfolders display the bookmarks in list mode, in alphabetical order.
