I flew several times with two solid metal sticks in my hair. I'd say within a year of 9/11 if I can remmeber correctly. They also did not set off the metal detectors.
Why do I mention this aloud without fear that terrorists would try to use it? Because the next person that tries to hijack a plane with anything less than a firearm is going to get tackled by the passengers around them.
Actually, what I noticed when going to see Farenheit 9/11 was that I already knew 70% of what was shown in the movie.. through local news sources. It was mostly a recap for those who missed the brief appearance of the reports in the news.
What's wrong with publicity seeking? Who doesn't want their views to be heard by a wide audience? I think it is worse for me to have heard on a flight I recently took when a passenger said Michael Moore was "abusing the freedom of speech" and "treasonous" than for Michael Moore to say what he is saying. Comments like those scare me more than anything I have seen Michael Moore say or do.
I've also stopped purchasing sony after they refused to pay the repair bill at one of their official service centers, tried multiple times to renig on their year waranty saying that their computers only said it was 3 months despite my faxing them my waranty over four times to every different rep.
They kept my product for three months at their service center, MOVED service centers, and finally sent me a completely different product back.
I was wondering what they were talking about as well. Mod parent up. Ireland indeed has nothing to do with the UK (which contains Northern Ireland specifically.. which is not the same as The Republic of Ireland) just like Taiwan (Republic of China) has nothing to do with China (People's Republic of China)
If only children are tagged, then how would someone using the system know that they are alone in that secluded spot? They could very well be with a parent or some other adult already.
from your post: it didn't really show any dramatic insight or anything
from the article: Candice tells me she studied Journalism in college, but is now an actor and model. "I work one trade show a month to pay the rent," she says
Only one day of work a month and the rest to do whatever you want (well, I suppose eating and activites that cost money will probably require you to work more than that). Doesn't sound too bad to me.
I think it interesting the comment from the non-booth babe. She sounds like a hypocrite to me because she knows exactly what she looks like as well, in-character excuse or not.
Um, who are you that's been using it for 20 yrs? Your average person certainly won't have. I would say the majority on slashdot hasn't used it for more than around 11 yrs.
If you've truly been using it for that long, you are also more likely to have the skills to fix email problems. Again, the average person to use email isn't. Thus, the demise.
Thanks for the links. The first says that more study is needed. The second says that it benefits older men the most (neither of those descriptors fits me) The third study was done on men only (grr. that's one of my pet peeves that more studies are done on men than women). The fourth study says I'll get an increase in my systolic blood pressure.. (not what I'm aiming for:) ) and that other effects were minimal
This is, however, only from reading the abstracts.
The drug does have a warning for alcohol, but the drug has a half-life of one hour. After about five hours, the drug is near completely out of my system. I discussed alcohol consumption with my endocrinologist and he didn't have any negative comments other than to ask why I started consuming (my palate changed to start liking it)and what was my rate (no more than two glasses a week at the top end).
The prescription drug I am on (PTU) I have been told (by my doctor) causes irreversible damage. Considering my damage has been reversed by abstaining from alcohol, this leads me to believe that it was not due to the drug.
The medical condition is Hyperthyroidism. The poster's statement was:
Moderate intake of alcohol has been proven to have a positive effect on heart and blood vessels. The negative effects of alcohol on the liver start only at higher intakes. Moderate here means up to 2 standard glasses (e.g. 100 ml wine or 250 ml beer) per day for males and 1 for females
So one exception does make the statement false. My consumption of alcohol is at greatest one glass twice a WEEK. My doctor has said that the liver test are indicative of alcohol use. My endocrinologist has also stated explicitly that damage from the drug is irreversible. Thus I don't think it could be damage from the drug.
I understand trusting multiple scientific studies, but I have yet to see a link to one.;)
When I think of minerals, I think of iron, zinc, and things other than salts. Minerals is a very broad term. I feel like salts is a more specific term.
The negative effects of alcohol on the liver start only at higher intakes. Moderate here means up to 2 standard glasses (e.g. 100 ml wine or 250 ml beer) per day for males and 1 for females.
Your statement is false. I currently have my liver monitored for abnormal behavior due to the drugs a doctor has me on which can possibly damage it. So far, the drug has not done anything noticeable to my liver in the past two years. However, drinking alcohol has directly caused my liver levels to spike. How do I know this? I never drank alcohol before under a year ago. It took abstaining two months from alcohol to lower the levels down to what they were again.
Excessive water intake can lead to loss of minerals.
I have never seen a report on this about "loss of minerals". Water *is* good to drink. The kidneys filter out that which is in the blood. If you take drugs which are carried by the blood, you will pee them out. Ask anyone who's taken sulfa drugs. Too much water will lead to a state much like inebriation, not mineral loss. See here.
Speaking as someone who occasionally plays the same moves repetitively in Soul Caliber/II, it would amaze me how guys would be full of their ego and choose to not block. My repeat attack was the simplest in the world: medium height strike, delay, low height strike, delay: plenty of time for a block and then counterstrike. One could say I pounded it into them to block in the first place. But still, they didn't seem to get the medium height and then the low height block in succession...
My brother comes along, and after four hits like that (seeing the pattern and beginning to block accordingly), he showes them how to retaliate properly... It took someone playing against me to help them learn rather than my breaking the cycle when other players tried to use it against me.
Recalling from memory (appologies for the current lack of articles at hand), there was a strong influx of Canadian doctors in the US because of the nationalized system. Canadian patients are also hopping the border for health care because it will take less time to be seen by an American doctor than a Canadian one.
I am hearing horror stories still from Canadian friends who are waiting in lines to wait in further lines to sign forms before they are even seen by someone.
The US health care system is going down the toilet because of HMO regulations (my ghod! have you heard about the life threatening Kaiser is doing by not allowing particular early detection exams? I know three cases second hand (either friend or husband of the person at risk). This isn't going to be fixed by our over-charging, under budgeting, morally reprehensible government. I think that it is scary already the disservice to the medical sciences that Bush is pulling, among them, giving federal dollars to private religious groups for abstinence-only programs and dissallowing funding for programs that talk about condoms or contraception. I *so* hate that the republican party continuously sells its soul to the religious right.
I will see if I can find the articles I'm pulling from memory, but that means digging through old pre-med boxes that I'm not sure I brought with me in the last move.
Gore lied (in a speech I attended) on a university campus with a top ten medical school about how "helpful" government controlled healthcare would be and to look at Canada. This university was in Washington and it was pretty much standard practice for pre-med students to look at other nations' health care systems. Canada's is definitely broken. Because he lied to a group educated more than himself on a subject was how he lost my vote. If I could go back in time, I would give him my vote, but only reluctantly because Bush squandered the good will of the world toward America and went to war without just cause. Nationalized health care is pretty damn scary as well. So is someone in power who obviously didn't have his facts straight...
The parent poster, The Unabageler, must have a lot more weight to push around than the average Joe. I *do* write to my government. More often than not, they send a canned answer to part of my letter (if they bother to answer at all) and blatently ignore factual evidence I bring to them about their policy that I disagree with. My writing hasn't made an iota of difference so far. I've got at least 6 letters under my belt just for last year.
I stand corrected (with regards to the infringement). Last I had heard (which I fully admit was some time ago), Pump was ruled against, not for, and was ordered to stop making the machines.
DDR has a much nice user interface than Pump. It was played far more than Pump in any demographic from what I observed at D&B. The songs were better (both style and use.. Pump slaughtered Take On Me)and the variance in difficulty choice is better.
You are taking crazy pills if you're getting this excited over someone's comment as well as jumping to conclusions. I never said that the position of buttons should be patentable. Pump, however, was still clearly a rip-off of the orginal idea.
My SO and I would go to D&B to play particular games, one of them being Dance Dance Revolution. It cost $1.25 more than a local arcade, but we could get a decent bite to eat and there weren't as many kids running around. Their fatal mistake? They bought one of the DDR rip off / patent infringing PUMP machines and put it right next to DDR. Listening to the music was impossible when they both went at the same time. There was always a line for DDR which often spilled over into the PUMP machine.
Then they did the unthinkable: they got rid of the DDR machine. I never saw the PUMP machine in use after that. They lost a serious money maker.
Another problem with D&B is that they are control freaks. There is a time of day where anyone can go in provided they have someone over 25 with them. So your soccer mom goes in with her two boys and she isn't carded. I go in with my SO: he is carded and quite over 25. The guy insists on seeing my id. I tell him I'm with my SO and start walking on by. He asks if I have my id. I tell him he doesn't need to see it knowing full well the policy. He says something incomprehensible about checking my id if he sees me "unattended" as I'm walking past him into the place. Makes you wonder if some people are welcoming in a new reign of facist, paper-checking leaders.
It wasn't a lack of exposure. I signed up to Beta and they didn't choose me so I don't know where they get off saying they didn't have enough people to Beta.
The only reason I bought the game this early was to participate in the early on-line, else I would have bought it later down the road for a fraction of the price. And as most Myst fans would know if they looked into Uru, you get different options on line once you complete the game. I haven't had the time to complete it (employed) so I didn't make the leap yet, but I had definitely planned to use it.
I am rather glad that a lot of businesses use fax as communication. There isn't a scanner where I work so that route is out.
With a fax: * I can send in my reciepts for health care reimbursement instantly AND keep the receipts. * I can sign legally binding medical release forms and get medical documents on their way rather than stopping by the physical office (which may be in another state) or waiting for the mail to deliver forms. * Faxing is cheaper than a 32 cent stamp in many cases. * I don't have to worry about our inconsistent mail carrier who decided he didn't have to deliver to us more than once a week as well as kept mail at the office undelivered. He also has continuously misdelivered mail, both for us (my SO and me) and not for us.
Several medical schools also require typed forms on the original form. It is a lot harder for me to figure out the widths between entries than it was to go out and buy a typewriter to fill them in.
The average medical school applicant applies to 10-15 schools.
When did they take away your chopsticks?

If you're going to argue semantics:
When children grow up into adults, that means they're no longer children (at least not physically). And thus wouldn't be tagged then.
I didn't mention permanent chipping nor did I say whether it would be internally or externally nor did I mention keeping the tags as adults.
Can you answer the question again from this point of view?
If only children are tagged, then how would someone using the system know that they are alone in that secluded spot? They could very well be with a parent or some other adult already.
