    I once encountered some city kids who thought an opossum they saw hanging around a dumpster was a rat. This now has me wondering how many of those "rats the size of small dogs" stories I've heard in the past were just mistaken identity. PS. I'm from the land of Pogo where opossums are not just a wild animal - they can be dinner!

    When this whole thing came out, I learned that Sarah Palin was illegally using personal email accounts for business email, supposedly to avoid leaving the electronic trail. THAT was eye opening.

    It's also eye opening that someone in the Democratic Party would illegally crack someone's e-mail account to score political points. This guy should be thrown to the curb. Instead he will probably get a slap on the wrist. If Obama gets elected he will probably have a job in Washington DC.

    It piqued my interest. I have been having problems connecting to certain sites through my ISP. I have wanted to determine where the problem lies - is it with the host or is it with my ISP?

    It would be interesting to find out.

    Yes but the numbers you reference are also misleading in that they are per capita numbers and that should include many people who pay no taxes. Nor do they consider the average income. A better measure would be average tax per dollar earned.

    You can calibrate an ATM on any screen that shows just one maybe two buttons such as "Would you like another transaction?" Yes/No or you could use that screen to calibrate vertically and another such as "Enter PIN and press OK" to calibrate vertically.

    that the reason we have Diebold voting machines in the first place is that certain voters were either mentally or physically unable to cast their vote properly in the 2000 election.

    After all how can you be expected to punch number 3 on your ballot when you can't figure out where number 3 is?

    That said, we have to fix the problem now that the genie is out of the bottle and I'll try to make my comments more constructive in the future.

    The day some ISPs can charge for the amount of traffic we put on their servers will be the day they put streaming video on their web pages.

    I'm not sure the common carrier rules say that a company can't charge more for my using more capacity though. But at least with long distance carriers and shippers, who are also subject to common carrier rules, I have some say about how often I use their services.
