  3. Heat and efficiency on NEC Unveils Methanol-Fueled Laptop · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Sure, but what about heat?

Reading some information on various fuel cells, it mentions various types, the coolest being the Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC) which runs at about 120-190 degrees F (about 50-100 deg C) which would require their own heat problems, which are already a big deal with laptops. Aside from all the "what about on airplanes" questions, I'm wondering about how well the laptop will run at those temperatures. They'll have to swap out some components comming standard on laptops nowdays (s-video/etc) in exchange for fans.
If you want longer battery life, you can get more batteries, so the only real advantage I see is they're safer for the environment in the long run.

I'm thinking I'll wait until they become more widestream and they have some of those issues worked out before I jump on that wagon.

  6. Voice Actors and culture on Trigun Coming to Cartoon Network · · Score: 5, Insightful

In Japan, voice actors actually have some prestige. It's a job people want to be. I can think of a few, like Megumi Hayashibara, whom is an idol out there. People love her! She's Ranma, Lina, or Lime. She's a million other characters, and she's a goddess!
Why is it when these great shows come here, they try to do a quick voiceover, and just get it out. I've been fansubbing for a long time now, and I cringe when I hear dubbed anime. There are very few shows that I've seen that I can even think of watching in english. Ranma 1/2 for one, wasn't terribly bad, but I don't have a clue who the english voice actors are.
I guess I want to know why such a great form of entertainment, and a job thats so honored where the entertainment comes from, gets the back burner here. Is it because they're trying to gear it for children and they feel that children don't need the emotion or force that normally becomes the character, or is it just that they want to save money and time by hiring someone off the street to quickly say the lines and send it to production?

    What do you think?

They remember the names and tatics used in children TV Shows, but nobody ever takes the time to teach real history. Your kids will come home and set up their legos and gi joes and you'll ask them what they're playing and they'll start telling you how their playing Cival War or something...

So, they just write it to accidently have conflicts, and viola, they can see all the programs your running... Also...

    also:

You acknowledge that Xupiter or parties appointed by Xupiter may from time to time provide programming fixes, updates and upgrades to you, including automatic updates to Xupiter, through automatic electronic dissemination and other means.

    hmmm... So.. technically....

  11. Re:Standards? on Businessweek Covers Linuxworld · · Score: 1

I don't think having standard interfaces is really that bright of an idea. Sure, it'll allow software companies to create software that works on multiple OS's, but think about it. You have linux and Windows. Windows has it's large userbase, but at the same time, Linux has the power and speed. It also take a little more to understand. If they were based on the same standards, we would get software that would have to deal with the limitations of the lesser OS. The whole idea of having more than one OS is to create a better OS. Compitition speeds creations. I would rather have to deal with software written for one Os or the other, than deal with software written for both with the limitations...

I'm still waiting for them to end this old idea of using silicon and move to something that can be used easier and faster. Technology can make the "bio" chips, etc, but the question is, do they delay because the new tech is still new, or because intel/amd wants to squeeze a few more bucks by creating more? Which comes to another question, how far along are we with these other technologies, and are they truely as fast/cool as we're made to believe.
