Yeah, That's why I said "fraction of the spectrum of time" which I would admit isn't very clear. I don't know if the brain would ever be full so much as stuff would, as you said, be overwritten. The branches (dendrites?) that carry synapses are constantly changing. My guess would be that eventually the brain would be well rounded. The branches in a sense become stronger as you develop a skill - eventually you would have all the skills and all the branches would be strong. The issue at that point would be overwriting nonessential memories, maybe at that point it would be a learned skill though... OTOH not relating more to being in a fraction of the spectrum of time one could still never know everything for the mere reason that they would still only be able to experience the events around them. Any sort of absolute knowledge would be impossible as there would still be the limits of the senses.

I used to think of infiniity as the end all (without end, of course). If only something could be infinite - being immortal for instance. Wouldn't that be the ideal; to be able to watch and learn and absorb even a fraction of the spectrum of time. But somewhere it occured to me that an infinite life and inifinity itself is just as meaningless as a finite one. There is no beating it: either life is too short - no matter how long life could be if it isn't infinite then it might as well not have happend. And sadly if it is infinite it becomes miserably excessive. Life can be like a good book, you don't necessarily want it to end, but if it never ends it will become terrible.

The ACLU does not represent all liberals. They don't even represent liberals specifically. They attempt to represent civil liberties. What you are refering to is some sort of freedom of speech or freedom to congregate issue. While I think the KKK is disgusting they do have the same rights to bash people that conservatives do when they make statements like. "Homosexuals aren't natural." If a group of people wanted to gather and preach such statements, which also seem to me to be disgusting, and were stopped the ACLU would probably help out as well.

I guess I don't draw a line for other people - individuals should be able to decide for themselves as long as they are not dirently/intentionally harming others there should not be a problem.

I realize that this is off topic but I find it difficult to understand how you can "misunderstand" liberals in such a way. Liberals accept and value diversity as equality, that is, respectful diversity. Anti-homosexuals, which are bigots, are clearly not respective of diversity. Hence they do not fit. I don't think liberals would have issues with anti-homsexuals if they weren't spouting things like: "They shouldn't have the same rights as us." and "They aren't natural." But anti-homosexuals do which would infuriate anyone who wants to live in a peaseful open minded society.

Star Wars pales in comparison to the Matrix trilogy. What we will end up with are parodies of both S.W. and Matrix along with LOTR. Parodies actually already exist for all three and more will come out as long as there's a profit somewhere. You said fairly cleanly: As with most anime, if you aren't a hardcore fan of the genre you're unlikely to mentally fill in enough the plot gaps to leave satisfied. You can replace anime with any term you like "Sci-Fi," "fantasy" etc. But if you paid attention and did an actual comparison there are at least triple the number of plot holes in S.W. than in the Matrix... But everyone follows the films differently, IMHO.

I don't think dual purpose is the issue. It's original intent. One of the above posters mentioned Linux being used by the DOD and that's a great example of something that was created for a particular purpose but can be used in multiple ways. Only Linus could say whether he's ideologically for or against Linux's use in the military. I know that whenever I develop something I constantly ask "What am I dong this for?" and "What are the benefits vs. drawbacks?"

"Why?" is just as important a question as "How much will you pay me?"
