Are you telling me this little plastic toy can play with kids. Is this a Sony advertising stunt or what. Yea, I want to play with the toy dildo-doll that can only move it's hands up and down and make beeping noises. Get bent. The AI in most games are far superior to dildo-tron over here. -10 for japanese toy maker sony.
I work with java, with javadocs.
You say that first, as if it should lend you some credence.
Of course not, I can get by with the comments, I just think, we are overdoing it, when, the code base is 10 lines long, but the comments make up several 100 lines. And, I see that more with java than other languages. Python seems to be the most self documenting.
I work with java, with javadocs. There is nothing more frustrating than reading a 500 line program and having the actual represent 20 lines with 480 of the lines filled up with comments.
Just don't over do it. Another thing, in school they teach you, "You should comment every line". That is silly, not every line needs comments.
I believe in a black box approach to your programs, if you can comment outside of the function and describe what is going on inside of the different blocks. I can't easily reuse that function if it is properly commented. I don't want to know what is going on, but if I know the arguments, the return-type, I am ok.
I have posted this to my different blogs pleading with the google people to give us a way to store files using gmail or similar tool without using the attachment feature. Support me people. Who cares if google has 2GB free. I can't fill that up? Who cares about RSS features on gmail. I want a place to put my files on the internet without paying for it.
This petition was created to ask Google to offer services for a network file storage system or other similar internet/network share. Google has made great headway with its very successful multi-gigabyte google email service
What twelve year old is running this company? I really want to know. They made a mistake by holding off on not going to broadband. Now, they want to enter some completely foreign market. People are having all kinds of problems with Vontage. I don't understand why they would want to jump on this train-wreck. I will send my resume to AOL for CEO,CIO or CTO, I have zero qualifications for this role, but I might just make it.
This is a good idea, but I hope it doesn't produce some of the, we will say 'interesting' jar-fest of projects that apache jakarta has put out. Java has been out for a while(a decade now), people have a pretty good idea of where to get there code.
Plus, with most java applications, you are going to get 20MBs of libraries anyway, I normally just reuse those. I am looking at you JBoss.
All that to say, took you long enough, hopefully O'Reilly will make this a standard place of quality java projects.
Someone mod this post up. There needs to be more support for lowerlevel libraries. Especially the popular windows libraries.
Somebody has to clean up the jvm garbage collection though.
Raise your hand if you know anything about cobol...."Don't see any hands" Why are people comparing a language still popular in the year 2005 to a language used in the sixties and seventies.
If Sun could really create a fast VM, and people are actually excited about downloading a JRE. I see java being used as a lower level language over higher dynamic languages like Jython/Ruby/Groovy. All of the eyes should be focused on the team that reduces the java startup times, the 100MB memory footprint. And for the sake of Moses. Get rid of the default "I-am-too-cool-look-and-feel". If Sun does this, possibly adopts a dynamic language project. Sun could actually go after MS, possibly even google. Look at the recent jolt awards. Most of the best software engineering projects were java based. Cobol, java is not. Elegant, not that either?

Why does everybody in IT have to be a fortune-teller. First, google is not going to create a global internet filesystem for the entire world and eliminate the computer. If you are a software developer. You only look 6-9 months ahead and google's take away the computer plan won't happen for 900 years. Second, Java is a simple language. Java mainly benefits from the amount of libraries and other tools that are already on the market. We have been looking at Java's source for the last several years now anyway. Nobody really gets excited. I would watch the language tools that are already out there, so don't wet your pants on java being open-sourced. Yay or nay, it probably won't effect the market too much. Geeks who live in dim-lit caves will probably have something new to play with, that is all
I skimmed through the article, and like Perl, I couldnt understand what he was saying, it probably meant well, I guess. And with Perl-6, the name may have some hidden meaning, 2006 release.
Exactly, plus the fact, I have found that the main benefit of going to a big school is that you get to tell people what school you went to, once you have told everybody, the thrill is gone. Question: "So What school did you go to?" Answer: "MIT" Response: "OH!"...person keeps walking...
Me personally, I dont think that is worth tens of thousands of dollars. And then what if you dont like the program you are in or the career path you are headed on, you have work long enough to pay off all your school loans, what a waste...
Whoever thought email could be that dangerous. You would think there would be tools in Apache/IIS to filter out those headers, but maybe I am wrong.

Do you remember in office space when the two bobs start doing layoff interviews. And they look over your profile and say, "So, what is it you actually do here!?" This is what I think of SUN. Especially since linux showed up. And I dont know much about business, but I have simple common sense solutions.
First get rid of a lot of your employees. How many people work at SUN 45,000? people for a not so lucrative company. Some face maybe saved if fix your mistake of expanding too fast.
Second, get out of hardware, or at least sell that section of your business. I know sun is supposed to be hardware but in my existence as a technology person I have yet to see any human being using a sun station. Actually I have seen a room of old sun stations at a university and not "ONE" person used them.
Java is cool! Sun could come up with some cool b2b solutions for java, and offer java services, in the way of servlets and beans and all that stuff. Why let IBM do it.
You have got to be joking. I know we computer people think we are GODS and rulers of super-power nations but come on. First off, I will only assume that Jobs will only invoke some kind of hippy agenda and as a first order of duty probably annex the southern states like Alabama and Mississipi or at least ignore their issues. I get it, people from California are cool and smart, but not everybody can hang with the California liberalism. And lastly, it seems to me that higher order politicians have to kiss ass to move up, from what I have read Jobs like to piss peole off, so while I would like to see a Geek in office, it wouldnt happen for another 1000 years.
I am unemployed, I am working/testing different projects. Give me money. Hehe. That is awesome. Will program for food.
This is a good tool, but we need google to implement internet filestorage, possibly through gmail. http://www.petitiononline.com/google45/petition.ht ml/

They don't what the DRM is? Go play politics on your own time. Leave the tech stuff to the free market.

The japanese corps are giving a free pass to research engineers. Just come up with any crazy idea and we will get it out on the market.
Slashdot killed the Dean campaign website. He has lost my vote. How can run for President if you cant keep your blog runnning.

Dont forget when we go to war, it will take 10 years to recover, financially anyway. And our economy is already messed up to begin with.
And know the science community will be hit first with budget cuts. Not related to war technology of course.
