hard to say. one of the sideeffects of the DMCA has been companies putting copy protection anywhere they possibly can to protect whatever they wish. if they are invoking the DMCA, i am guessing this os one of those cases. i'm told those who've looked at CSS(and DeCSS) said essentially that its crap encryption, and only really designed to give legal recourse against those who copy DVD's..not to physically stop them from doing it. considering some kid broke it with just enough lines of perl to fill a t-shirt, i'm inclined to believe this is true.

If this is all they wanted to do, they could have done it years ago. Every local band on the planet throws a cafepress store up the day after they form. I'd like to think NetBSD is a _little_ more important than that.

plus, they only put up one graphic. at least give us the alternate versions of the new logo!(i prefer the black)

    I run NetBSD 2.0 on a SparcStation5 as a webserver.

I salvaged these sparcs from the trash at my university. They didn't come with any working OS, almost no ram, and tiny hard drives. Any remotely current version of Solaris was out of the question.

NetBSD was an excellent choice for a current, lightweight, and robust OS that would run well on it. Getting Apache/PHP/MySQL installed through pkgsrc was very easy, and its been doing daily duty as my personal webserver for months.

Of course Linux does run on this box as well. Debian's port is pretty mature. Part of my interest in NetBSD on it was learning something new, as opposed to just another Debian box.

I have been very impressed with its performance thus far. Enough to consider NBSD other places.

actually, before running NetBSD, I ran Debian on my SparcStation5, and it not only ran pretty well, but its easy to do a lightweight Debian install. They had a pretty good selection of things in apt-get as well. The Gentoo sparc port is supposed to be pretty good as well(although i don't run it), and there is also the unofficial Slackware port, Splack(http://www.splack.org/), although its a bit more work.

I'm up to nearly 30GB myself, and I haven't even gotten around to digitizing my entire CD and Vinyl collection yet. And movies...we're at about 175GB for that. Not counting the parts of my physical DVD collection I haven't gotten around to ripping yet. Bittorrent makes up the majority of the internet's traffic at this point. Clearly a LOT of people have similarly expansive collections of media. I think the minimac may in fact be just the thing to help the media pc really catch on. One of those things with a nice big hard drive would probably be ideal. Hell, the 256MB stick in the $500 base model is probably plenty for a media pc anyways...I've certainly run Mplayer just fine with lesser machines.

One thing they showed was that footage came from a charity dinner where the tradition is for the two political candidates to give a humorous self-depecreatory speech.
