Still, critics have complained that without a comparison group, it's unclear if the implant really helped or the depression eased for some other reason.
Did I miss something here, or did the FDA just approve a treatment that wasn't tested against a control group?!
You keep saying that joke but I do not think it means what you think it means.
The point of that joke would be more appropriate when discussing, say, Windows being made prettier (through GUI widgets, pretty colours, animations, fading menus, etc) without the underlying OS core being improved.
Shit: OS Core
Sprinkles: Pretty GUI crap
By the same argument, if you have a radio, it should be legal to download the music that is played on the radio. This argument becomes even stronger if you have XM radio or the like.
If you pay for XM satellite radio, then yes, your argument is valid. However, unlike TV, you don't have to pay an FM radio service provider. You get the signal for free.
Care to mention what even one of those giant, unexplainable holes is? Or do you even know?:)
Actually, I have a better question: have you actually READ Origin of the Species? Because if you haven't, and are still talking about how it is full of holes, then you're just a pompus blowhard who doesn't know what he's talking about.:P
Because the issue was that some parents didn't want to expose their children to violent or sexual content in movies. ClearPlay provided technology which allowed them to, in essense, automatically fast-forward through the violent or sexual content.
The argument had to do with if a content creator has the right to control how people are exposed to that content after they have paid for it and the DVD is now their property.
Quoth the poster, "As we all know the final ruling will have ramifications on the tech world well beyond P2P."
I hate to break it to you, but the United States isn't the center of the universe, tech or otherwise. Yes, the crazy anti-P2P movement will likely have a horrible effect to US residents, but please. Don't generalize.:P
Agreed. I remember seeing the first screenshots of Half-Life in PC Gamer (it was a guy in green, in a checkered hallway, if memory serves), and thinking "wow, that looks like Quake".
Releasing Half-Life: Source was a pretty kick-ass idea as well -- I know a lot of people who have never PLAYED Half-Life, but given that the graphics were rather dated by today's standards, I don't think I could get them to pay attention. Now I can. =)
I've seen a number of reviews say that Half-Life 2 is the best FPS of all time. After playing it even for only the hour that I have (I have a Social Psychology mid-term tomorrow morning;), I can tell you that it is, hands down.
I have to commend Valve for doing it right. They didn't rush. They didn't over-hype. They didn't fuck it up. =)
I believe Valve deserves a round of applause. Half-Life 2 is a masterpiece.
Question. What about people who purchase Half-Life 2 retail, but simply do not have access to an Internet connection? (IE, they can't authenticate via Steam.)
Western and American children, deprived of the NORMAL two to three years of breast feeding that homo sapiens have enjoyed throughout recent evolutionary history, never got enough of the boob and spend their lives lusting after what they missed.
The hyper-sexualization of breasts is DIRECTLY related to the decline of breastfeeding.
Remember, however -- correlation does NOT imply causation...
I don't know about anybody else, but I have noticed that, lately, Google seems to be rather polluted by people who are exploiting the PageRank system to get higher listings. You know the types -- the url is of the form www.domain.com/your-exact-keywords.html, and the page doesn't actually have any content. Google is fantastic for anything that hasn't gone main-stream, simply because advertisers aren't Google-Bombing (heh, I can't believe I actually said that) those particular words yet.
Somehow I think there is a difference between reading nerdy news (which is actually rather relevent to the Internet population as a whole; however, non-geeks tend to not care as long as it works) and learning how to fluently speak a fictional language.:)
Although one could argue that learning to code is speaking a fictional language... there's some good philosophy for ya.
I'm Canadian, and I will concede that it I have drawn unfair conclusions based upon what I observe of your media. I got so sucked up being amazed by what the Reblican party is doing down there that I forgot about the 50% + x who voted for Gore. It actually kind of bothers me that it didn't occur to me until your post. Especially since I consider myself as someone who tries to think critically. Perhaps there is a psychology paper in there somewhere.
Refresh my memory. Why do people, all of a sudden, need cameras in their phones? Pictures, mp3 playback, Internet access, email, instant messaging... I can hardly wait until Nokia releases a phone that does everything EXCEPT actually make phone calls. *Rolls eyes*
Of all the remote controls that I have, I have found that the Xbox DVD Remote is, by far, one of the best that I have encountered, design wise. It fits extremely confortably in your hand, you can easily reach all of the buttons with your thumb, and it's easy to read in the dark.

Why would this not require a customer signature? Why not eliminate the need for the signature for any type of credit-card transaction?

o Feb 13, 2004: File-swapping lawsuits loom in Canada
o Mar 31, 2004: Judge: File-swapping legal in Canada
o June 30, 2004: Canadian ISPs win on copyright ruling
o Dec 17, 2004: Judge tosses Canada's 'iPod tax'
Instead of bitching about all the American P2P laws, why don't you guys just move to Canada already? It seems like we've gotten it right.
How did they get his email address?

PST. Where Valve is. :)

When do they get to play HL2? CAN they at all?

But isn't that wrong?

Wait... why does that have to be an April Fools Day joke?
:)
Anybody know how hard it would be to develop a text-based FPS-like game? Or know how one would go about doing so?
I think it would be pretty cool, at least from a huge geek's perspective.
Check out TTYQuake. :)
I hate watching TV simply because there is ZERO mental effort required. (I can't stand it when my brain feels idle. Makes me crazy.)
I vote we get Mozilla to change the name of Firefox PERMANENTLY to "Firesomething". :P

Love them or hate them, Beavis and Butt-head Do America was EXACTLY what it needed to be. I hope Groening follows Judge's lead. :)
I already have a Tunsten T, running PalmOS 5. Is there any way to migrate away from PalmOS and over to an OSS solution?
