And in combat, "agility" doesn't mean much when the muzzle velocity on an anti-tank round approaches six thousand feet per second. When the day comes that surviving APFSDS rounds on the interstate becomes crucial to continued vehicular existence, I think I'll upgrade my chosen method of transportation to a tracked design plated with Chobham, thank you very much. SUVs still suck though.
I thought the Laptop Drive of Shame was that unique moment where you stop the car, do a U-turn, and get out to go pick up your laptop from where it impacted after sliding off the rooftop when you peeled out of the parking lot.
Makes a hell of an advertisement for Toughbooks, though.
I am neither Estonian nor Russian, and have never visited either country.
That being said, this attitude that the Estonian government is somehow horribly evil for moving a statue I find to be utterly incomprehensible. If the United States government decided tomorrow to move the Vietnam wall across the Mall and plunk it down over somewhere else, you'd have a few thousand disgruntled veterans. You might see a few angry op-ed letters. The idea that there would be violent rioting in the streets and destruction of public infrastructure is absolutely insane.
I strongly suspect there are more layers and levels to the nationalism behind this issue than one simply of respect. Population growth and ethnic tensions seem to be what's really at heart. Blaming the Estonian government for the situation, though, is bafflingly illogical.
Your theory makes a disturbing amount of sense, on all levels. It explains an awful lot, passes political logic check, and fits the known facts. If only it weren't so damn depressing.
China is wiping out Tibetan culture at a fast pace, the only leverage the Tibetans have is international pressure, and in the Olympic year China cannot simply ignore it as it would do normally. They have little hope of success, but this is their last chance before their country is swamped by Chinese immigration and they become fringe slum dwellers in their own land.
The problem is, what real leverage do they possess? "International pressure" against China and a dollar bill, won't even buy you a soda. Maybe if they had a bunch of ex-Soviet hardware lying around, and the collective will to go guerilla, but even then it's tough to say. Neither the United States nor the Soviet Union ever had the balls to deal with aymmetrical warfare against a dedicated populace effectively. I suspect China very well might.
What would actually do the Tibetans good would be a handful of weaponized fission devices. The problem is, somehow they just don't seem terribly inclined to pony up the money for MIRVs. Nuclear blackmail by a subjugated nation isn't something that gets talked about very often, but it does make one wonder how Beijing would or could respond to such an ultimatum (capitulation? MAD against the entire region? something else entirely?).
So what you're saying is that you're one of the bastards responsible for the upteen-thousand changes to the rules regarding capacity, caliber, size, weight, sights, etc. Thanks;P
So they crack the signal and continue broadcast the "stay alive" signal AFTER we stop broadcasting, thus allowing it to de-orbit successfully without self-destructing. Sorry, but no go.
By bruteforcing I presume you mean massive voter turnout against incumbents. What happens if the vote is rigged? To quote one of the greatest tyrants of history: "The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything"
Why not simply launch from Alaska on over-the-pole flight paths? Or fly at higher altitude? Or plot flights to stay over the ocean as long as possible?
Collateral damage isn't really of any consequence when you're talking about the circumstances that would require the useage of thousands of megatons on enemy targets. The ol' Russkies probably aren't going to be throwing spitballs back.
Or it could be changed to "Six Million People May Now Be Punished Freely by Government" (or something to that effect). It doesn't mean they HAVE to go after everyone, it DOES mean that they'll have the power to screw around with any of those people that they wish.
I shoot a fairly decent amount, carry a sidearm, etc, but have never yet had that dream. The closest I had was a vivid dream of walking down a street with a girl, and being followed/confronted by three males with no visible weaponry. I remember the sense of adrenaline, and above all the cold realization that the three men intended to harm or kill both of us, that I had the ability to stop them, and that if they didn't desist I would have to shoot. The dream faded out about at that moment, leaving just that feeling of terrible inevitability of what would happen. On the contrary to the "failure" dreams, I had the impression at the time that my pistol would work just fine, and that I was entirely physically/psychologically capable of stopping all three. So what does this tell me? Was it a rehearsal so as to prepare myself emotionally for the necessity of using a weapon in self defense someday?
Parent is modded funny, but I don't see why that couldn't work out just as well. If it's something popular (although hell, there's a fanatic out there for anything) there will be a tremendous number of geographically-distributed backups available at any time. Besides the inevitable studio objections, what's wrong with having them all put up onto P2P services (or making one specifically for archival purposes)?
Mods, as original as that comment is, I can only wish for it to be modded down into oblivion if only to save fellow BR fans from the memetic corruption of imagining Jar-Jar Batty.
I really wish I had some points to spend to tag parent insightful. I would expect more of/. to know A Clockwork Orange well enough to recognize the reference, understand the words, and translate the meaning. The fact that even here more people don't get it is reflective of society at large.

This is /. Consider your "target market" and then consider the percentage thereof that goes to movies with these rumored "dates".

So what you're saying is that it's bad taste to have too good of taste in a given subject?
And it's times like these that I feel totally lost and confused in this world.

Recently being the key word here, you know. Both of them have completely dropped off of the media's radar. Funny thing, that.
Oh, they'll be bigger than a .50 cal, no worries about that...
His police/politician customers beg to differ.

I'm embarassed to admit that I chose "E" before I even finished reading the entire question... Ehh, retinas are a dime a dozen these days anyhow.

Do you have any references for the Casey quote about the media? I'm really quite curious about that.
It was for her own benefit. /sarcasm
Burn in the fires of Orc, heathen. ;P

Which makes us what, the retarded kids in the local cluster? The evolutionary dead-end that's too stupid to run for cover when a predator approaches?

"And I'm a Sci-Fi nut." (there, fixed the caps for you)
No offense, but that's precisely why you find it boring.
