Not for three years anyway, they are only scared by people, and those people must be en mass. Though even given enough (witness the anti-war demonstrations in the UK prior to the Iraq war), the government can still proceed as it wants if there is enough time before the next demonstration of democracy, i.e an election.

Unfortunately, the general public are fairly timid, and unless the situation has affected them personally, in a direct manner, and even if they oppose the situation, they will not get off their arses and attempt to do something about it.

Passions need to be ignited within an individual before they will be proactive, and in a comfortable world, passion is something that is hard to come by, especially when it is far easier to be slightly bemused and stand on the sidelines.

Thanks for that, I tried MediaPortal a while ago, and it wasn't quite up to the task then and unfortunately isn't now (at least in terms of music). Unfortunately it takes far too long to list the songs available (about 30-120 secs), granted I have a large playlist (about 130 gigs) but it still shouldn't take that long even with my aging Athlon FX-51. Also the search has the same problem as MCE, i.e it limits the search to one field, artist or song title but not a combination of both. So I think I'll stick with using a combo of Foobar for music and MCE for everything else.

Would try using MythTv but getting the output to go through the Optical out on my soundcard was a nightmare, that I gave up on after not being able to progress past a continuous, inelegant whine sound.

Anyway thanks for the tip, I think I'll keep checking back on MediaPortal as it looks like it's heading in a nice direction. Out of curiousity, do you know if it's possible to update the music database in the background on a periodic basis?

Then why not fix the god awful music library?

It takes forever to search through a relatively large music database (>30Gb), completely grinding to a halt.

The music search is pathetic. You cannot search for tags across categories!!

It will only search individual tag categories for the typed phrase. Unless Beatles Help is the name of an artist, album, or song the pathetic search will not find it.

How anyone could release Media Center 2005 with the tagline stating 2005 with these capabilities is pathetic.

While I'm ranting, why on the search results (when they finally turn up) does it not state the full details of the results? Why do you have to click on the name of the song title before you find out who the song is by? The user interface is possibly the worst case of style over functionality I have ever seen.

I take it by this you mean a form of proportional representation, sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth.

This is the form of HoL that I would like to see as well. The HoC can stay the way it is, with a first past the post election, as it tends to form a more powerful government, with less coallitions, which for me always create compromises and potentially weak laws.

The HoL would then be represented by percentage of the nations vote, by the parties. I.E. each party putting forward their own choice for the number of slots that they have been given.

Of course this means that the HoL is not strictly chosen by the public, as none of the members have been voted for, though it would mean that the various parties would only put forward their most staunchly supportive people, and after all the vast majority of the voting public tend to sadly vote for the party, rather than the person.

The 360 has been incredibly well received by most of the developers I've spoken to, and public interest/desire for the machine is also high. It almost seems that people who were dissapointed by the final PS2 product are more wary of Sony's marketing/hype attempts this time, especially as MS has released a reasonable product, which has been well marketed, unlike the previous machine to be a front runner in the next gen market, the Dreamcast.

    (1-v^2/c^2)^(-1/2) = 1 + 1/2*(v^2/c^2) + -(1/2*-3/2*v^4)/(2!*c^4)
