Sure, these aren't "hardcore" SF offerings, but its hard to imagine another guy, other than Lucas, who consistently churns out enjoyable Scifi fare.
I'm personally holding out until the library gets bigger, the price goes down, and memory sticks get cheaper. I would like to watch movies/TV shows on the go, but for now I have Bejeweled on my cell phone, a GBA for Galaga and an iPod. Come tho think of it, the only game I ever play on the GBA is old school Galaga.
Give me Bejeweled and Galaga on the PSP and I just might get one!
My band uses MySpace.com to attract new listeners, and it's been the best. They should charge bands for this kind of exposure. Lots of new people at shows. When we post a show bulletin, people propagee the notices through the network, its a huge thing. Social networks are crazy good for bands. Oh, and there's lots of hot chicks too. Just beware the chicks who only take pictures from one particular angle. They're the fat ones. (they need love too).
Search NPR.org for an interesting article. According to GM, there where only 50 people committed to buying an EV1. That didn't stop environmentalists from chaining themselves to the last enclave of EV1s in Burbank, CA.
My neighbor drives a very nice Honda Insight (Hybrid). Seems like a lot less hassle than an electric-only vehicle, until hydrogen (or the next big thing) comes along.
The point is, they're giving you something that works. There's no difficult setup involved, right out of the box you get an easy solution to a complicated task. There are other devices that don't tie you in to iTunes, feel free to purchase those instead. It's a free market. But can your parents set up a SlimMP3 or netgear music station all by themselves?
By the way, iTunes doesn't just play Apple approved music. It plays any Mp3, wav, or aiff. It diesn't play orbis or flac, but that's a market-driven decision. Not enough people care about those formats.
He messed up, and although Apple doesn't technically owe him anything, he bought their latest computer. You have a reasonable expectation that their software would run on their latest hardware.
Look, I'm an unapologetic mac fanboy, but they should have given him a refund anyway. If we were talking about any company other than Apple, there wouldn't be such ardent defenders of the software maker.
I responded to this: "What REALLY pisses me off about this whole sham, is the fact that digital downloads are already pure profit for the labels. No packaging, distribution, or printing. Pure profit."
Of course, it's cheaper for a label to sell you a CD through iTunes vs Best Buy. Who would dispute that?
I can tell you that there are costs to the labels other than shipping a box to Apple. Artwork, digitizing, the cost of CD's that will not be purchased in lieu of downloads, advertising, etc.
Believe this: I have more reason to hate the major labels than you. I have to deal with this crap with my band. But all business ventures are risks, whether it's signing a band or financing a world tour. These losses have to be included in the cost of all music you buy (even from indie labels to some extent), or there would be no new acts ever signed.
I looked at prices yesterday, and the FW hard drive enclosure cost 6 dollars more than the USB2. Although you make good points, I disagree with your overall assessment. FW has not failed. It is very succesful in both Macs and PCs for video editing, where it really shines for DV-computer transfer.
I personally prefer FW. It costs 20 bucks (at most) to add it to your desktop, and is much faster than USB2 in real world situations (the specs would make you believe USB2 is more competitive).
Apple made the right choice for Windows users, but have alienated their strongest supporters yet again. I don't fault Apple for growing, but with the profit margins on iPods being so high, I wish they would supply a combo FW-USB2 cord, or just put 2 cords in the box and avoid these headlines. Remember, you can't use a regular FW cable, you need a dock connector on one end.
I think Lavasoft may be in a hard position now. Ad-Aware is also free, but they depend on the paid version to keep them afloat. Now that MS is offering theirs for free, I wonder what Lavasoft will do to stay competitive.
I hope MS doesn't turn around and start charging once the competition is eliminated.
This is just stupid. What if you own a large ranch and drive around in it, not on public roads? What if you drive on (private) toll road freeways, like the one we have in Southern California? What about the people who will obviously find a hack for the system? What if you pick up your gas in a large plastic tank and avoid paying fees? This is ridiculous, and whoever thought this up should face electoral consequences.
Every time we talk about cell phones, the highest modded post is a version of the one I'm replying to. Don't want new features? Fine, stick with your old phone. Or, buy a used one. Or, buy a new one that doesn't have all the bells and whistles (yes you can still find simple phones in ample supply).
Plus, Some of us would like to carry fewer gadgets in our pockets.
I thought this was Slashdot, a gatehring of people excited about new technology. Why do we mod up people who want to live in the past?
I'd like to add that most applications I've installed weren't compatible between Linux distributions (or versions of their distribution!), much less all "*NIX's". This is hardly a fault of Apple.
About 95% of computer users can use Movielink. And don't bitch about watching movies on your PC, that's what people do after they download the torrent of Scooby Doo 2. better yet get a laptop with s-video out. Solved. Are you ready to put your money where your mouth is?
There will *never* exists a business model where companies make movies costing hundreds of millions of dollars, and you get to download them for free. Sorry.
Oh, and a P2P code of conduct? Among people who are making a living tracking illegal movie downloads? Please. Get a Netflix subscription, go to the movies if you want to watch. Don't want to pay? Don't watch. It's pretty simple.
Some years ago a company I worked for was quoted one hundred thousand dollars as the cost to license IBM MQ Series messaging. There could be some serious savings in using an OSS product like this.
I've studied this extensively and can tell you that Governator Arnold can set up an atmosphere on Mars in just a few minutes. I totally recall watching this happen.

Hey - That's better than her rights being set to "Everyone".

Bah, nowhere near as good as "Hobbit on a Hot Shire Roof".

This is getting ridiculous. Next article, please.

Right. It costs no money to handle servers, technicians, software developers, bandwidth or advertising. Right on.

I believe its "Small Form Factor", as in tiny PC cases.
