Hey, I remember you! We can still be friends. Every now and then I have to do something extra for the company i work for - work a few hours on the weekend, travel, answer a call at 9PM, whatever. It's not very often and I don't mind. It's not unfair considering how much slacking off we do at work. Imagine if you owned a company. I know I wouldn't hire someone with that attitide. See ya later.
Make sure to come back and re-read your post when your job gets outsourced to a guy who makes 1/10th of your salary, and cares about the job just as much.

I use a mac at home, and one thing I can't stand is iMovie, when I'm trying to crop a video clip. If you don't click on the tiny little markers precisely, you'll drag the whole window. Hate it!
You only get 1024x768 resolution on the iBook (or 12 inch Powerbook). That's not insignificant compared to a 15 inch powerbook. I agree that between the 12 inch models its not worth the extra cash, but the difference in power between a 14 inch iBook and a 15 Powerbook is much more. Screen resolution, CPU Speed, bus speed, PCMCIA, Gigabit ethernet, dual monitors, (there's an unsupported hack for the iBook), DVI, lit keyboard, etc.
None of this is "must have" for me but I'd rather get a refurbed 15 inch Powerbook over a new iBook.
This is going to be a problem for the thousands of bands (including mine) that uploaded 3 songs for myspace listeners to check out. They don't own our music.
Seriously, for the first time ever I'm thinking that Microsoft is fucked. Compare Windows 2000 -> Windows XP. What did you get? Not a whole lot. Now it looks like Windows XP -> Longhorn isn't going to get you a whole lot either, except for more restrictions, more DRM, more lockdown. What the hell have Microsoft been doing with their (m)(b)illions of R&D money?
Windows 2000 is plenty good for anyone these days. It's a shame, that 5 years later there's no compelling reason to upgrade.
But seriously, I hate the "Apple makes money selling machines, not software" myth. Apple also makes a killing on software, and there's higher margins than hardware. Steve Jobs said Tiger had already sold a million boxed copies of Tiger at the WWDC. Multiply by $129? That's a lot of cash coming from just the OS. And don't forget about their stance in the professional media market. How much is Final Cut Pro selling for these days? What does Motion cost?
Incredible that this is the top moderated article. Is this really the attitude building up around here? I may have a DLP projector in my living room, but I'm not counting every penny it costs to see Batman Begins. (And you don't have to buy a popcorn and coke).
In the last 30 years I'm glad to have seen many, many great movies made by Hollywood Studios, along with films made by independent production companies. I was gonna list some great recent movies made by the majors, but what for?
Look man, enjoy your 1 dollar movies, but if you think paying the AMC 9 bucks to see a movie is the equivalent of rape, you're senseless anyway.
Go to Santa Monica's jewel, KCRW. You can download many podcasts of NPR shows, though most are KCRW exclusives. I recommend Harry Shearer's Le Show. Its funny and insightful.
As the other guy noted, Audible sells some content, including an NPR weekend show called This American Life, a tremendously interesting show.
I would love to see NPR get off of Audible bus and do their own podcasts. I already give them cash!
It comes from Mac users who feel a (usually) non-existent speed increase in their machines after they download a patch or updatde to OS X. Also, its common practice to "repair permissions" on OS X as a maintenance chore. People swear that their computers feel "snappier" after doing this. Its mostly all in their head. But hey, whatever makes you happy.
Yes, I agree and want to point out that if MS pulls Office for the Mac, the current version will be more than enough for a long, long time. Ironically, it's Microsoft's best product. When's the last time you bought an new version of Office because you needed a new feature?
Reminds me of the news a few weeks ago that Nike is no longer selling shoes to Sears. Why not? Because Sears bought Kmart, and Nike doesn't want to be sold at Kmart.
In this day and age where brand is king and marketing is above all else - that Apple, the BMW of computers, would be sold at Dell? Sorry Dell dude, you're not getting a Mac.
The G5 wasn't good enough, and too hot for a Powerbook. AMD has supply issues. This is why Apple switched to Intel. They don't want to be in the commodity PC market, have never said they would. But any jackass who insists this is some brilliant move by Apple to get into the commodity business gets front news headlines. Stop it already. OS X will only run on macs, or hacked PCs.
You are incorrect. There are many economists who see public debt as a wise maneuver, allowing the government to purchase goods and services (mostly from its own people) at a higher rate than the current cash flow will allow. See Robert Eisner's "The Misunderstood Economy" for more insight. The first paragraph of his book:
"At every stage in the growth of [the English public] debt it has been seriously asserted by wise men that bankruptcy and ruin were at hand. Yet still the debt went on and growing; and still bankruptcy an ruin were as remote as ever" - Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay, on the English public debt originating in the seventeenth century, in History of England from the Accession of James the Second, Harper and Brothers, 1862
The media reacts as if every move by Steve Jobs is a stroke of genius. Admittedly he's a smart guy, but Apple *had* to switch to Intel, they had no choice. Too many people were waiting for the G5 Powerbook, or waiting for faster Macs to replace their older machines. AMD has the same supply issues as IBM. Where could they go?
If there's no hardware DRM copy protection on the Intel Tiger build, it's probably because they had to rush these systems out the door, rather than wait for these issues to get sorted out. This time around Apple wants the developers to get it right, so they need all the time they can get.
In all seriousness, most new technologies have the potential for good and bad. How many people have been killed by electricity? Should we not allow new technologies to advance because there are dangers? I think nano is truly the next frontier and I'm excited about it.
I suppose with a keyboard input and some custom software you could do some editing, but honestly a used blue and white G3 powermac (~$200) can do video editing just fine.
I view this information in typical Playstation fashion - Grand announcements are made, and slowly they retract features until the new consoles are based back in reality. People were talking about editing video on the Playstation 2 - now were back in the same boat once again.
It sounds exactly like Space Mountain at Disneyland, you can even hear sounds similar to trains rushing by! How did Walt Know?
Anyone remember the 5,000 "Ate My Balls" websites?
Mr. T Ate My Balls!
Lion-o Ate My Balls!
Darth Vader Ate My Balls!
Erkel Ate My Balls!
Ronald McDonalad Ate My Balls!
WTF was that all about???

Actually, Apple makes money selling iPods!

I just downloaded this new spreadsheet program and my powerbook feels much snappier now!

VI works! I saved a text file to my home directory. Pretty neat.

Afterwards they all drove away in their SUVs.
