I have never bought the idea of life on Europa being more likely. Water and volcanic activity does not equal conditions like on Earth. Life evolved on earth thanks to a rather thick atmosphere composed of water and carbon dioxide, with nitrogen and sulphur thrown in for fun. As the planet cooled, it rained, taking the carbon dioxide with it to the surface, where it reacted with the surface, forming organic compounds.
The water on Europa is under a thick layer of ice. The atomosphere is thin and composed completely of oxygen and would not reach the liquid water.
"But what about hydrothermal vents?" Well, a good candidtate for developing life on Earth, but all we have now are forms of life that have already evolved to fit in niches like vents and polar caps. We truly don't know what exact conditions develop life. Going from the first life forms to hydrothermal bacteria/diatoms/whathaveyou is a much smaller step than going from organic compounds to the first forms of life.
I could not agree more. Several cities in Iraq have had no water/power for months. What are we whining about? And to make it even more sickening, the New York Post is thumping it's chest about the Brave Heroes of the Big Bad Blackout of '03. Give me a break. The FDNY and NYPD folks who worked overtime and kept this city safe and got my super out of the elevator are heros. In every crisis there are folks who stand above the call of duty, but this wasn't Pearl Harbor or 9/11 for God's sake.
The ads for Low-Carb beer show fit-n-healthy folks in the middle of various inviogorating excercises. Alcohol may have some good effects on the body according to recent research, but the ads make beer look like Powerade for chrissake. Moderation is good. Preying on stupidity, suggesting that beer is healthy, is irresponsible.
On a similar note, I saw a print ad for Bud Light that showed a condensation-covered label; on that label was a strategically-placed water drop that just happened to make "Budweiser" look like "Bloweiser". Yeah right, just a coincidence. And no, I wan't looking for it.
SCO is arguing that AIX is a derivative of UNIX (it is), and the critical part, that ALL CODE IBM DEVELOPS FOR AIX is therefore a derivative of UNIX. SCO isn't claiming that Linux itself is a derivative of UNIX (in it's lawsuit, forget what the fools at SCO say to the mic). Should get less FUDdy and more legal from here on in (breaks out laughing).
LSC is okay as security books go, but there are other options of course.
My favorite security manual (though distro-specific) has been the Debian security manual as it is both comprehensive, informative and relatively easy to follow; the author of that should consider writing a more general book.
The various Maximum ______ Security by Anonymous are pretty good too. The O'Reilly yellow series is great.
However, nothing beats those plus reading RFCs, subscribing to security lists, chatting on IRC with security folks (of any hat color), reading usenet, and analyzing packet dumps and Snort rulesets yourself.
Linux repeatedly and deliberately uses int main() in it's code and even has the gall to copy the return () function as well!
The lot of you penguin snoggers should be shot, hung, drawn and quartered.
Come off of it, you guys have had DIRECT COMBAT with the US in both the Revolutionary and 1812 Wars. You beat us both times. OK, so we were trying to invade. I mean, we went South the next time we wanted to invade. In fact, the next 3 times, so let's let bygones be bygones.
actually, it's a combo of the paint, the material that the painted object is made out of and the angle of the object to the radar source that make it stealthy.
Now a jammer, THERE's the ticket buster....
I agree, but how is this case "blatantly unconstitutional?"

Don't worry, in 50-100 years, the melting ice caps will replenish more water than we would ever need...
I hear that Colombian Neckties are the worst for you.
Quite true. But that's not actually the point.

OK, I didn't read it. It's the EFF, not the RIAA doing this. I am stupid. I'll just sit down now...
Sounds like a great way to harvest usernames for future lawsuits.
The number of stars or the number of cells (of any kind) on Earth?
or work from home, same thing
I know, I was just adding some alternate sources of knowledge.
I know this is a bogus troll and it just maxes out the number of allowed processes.
but try "code" next time and match your braces
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
printf("Linux is now crashing");
for(;;){
fork();
}
}

SCO is coming dangerously close to infringing on Microsoft's patents
Comeon, this is the 21st Century and a technical site, WHY are there speling eror?
President JeffK
that with off topic stories like this, /. has become more like kuro5hin.
will get the CD and print it out at the office?

Well, this was my first submission. Thank you for showing me the error in my ways before hate eventually consumed me :)
What the hell? I guess his summmary is better than mine, since I was delerious with the flu. But, regardless: HEY! That's not fair.
