  1. I think Canadian Netflix already has this deal? on September: Netflix Will 'Become Exclusive US Pay TV Home of Films From Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar' (venturebeat.com) · · Score: 2

    I'm thinking there is going to be a merger/buyout of ABC/Disney at some point.

  2. Won't say it's impossible... on Forget Apple: Samsung Could Be Google's Next Big Rival · · Score: 5, Insightful

    Don't think it's too likely in the near future though. They now have the S4 Play Edition so I'm not sure that Samsung will be ditching andoid any time soon. I think they could make a go at it but without the Play ecosystem they'd basically be back to square one and be back with BlackBerry and Windows Phone for apps.

  6. Re:Dismal Sales? on Metal Gear Solid 4 Delayed To 2008 · · Score: 1

    I saw this the other day and I think it's a bunch of really old numbers numbers. They say:
            * Xbox 360: hardware to software ratio: 6.59 (hardware total sold = 6.8 million; software total sold = 44.8 million)
            * PlayStation 3: hardware to software ratio: 3.58 (hardware total sold = 1.9 million; software total sold = 6.8 million)
            * Wii: hardware to software ratio: 3.44 (hardware total sold = 4.5 million; software total sold = 15.5 million)

    Wikipedia says (I know I hate using wikipedia as a reference but I'm damn sure that these numbers are more reasonable, plus I'm lazy):
            * Xbox 360: 13.4 million consoles
            * PlayStation 3: 5.59 million consoles
            * Wii: 13.17 million consoles

    Joystiq doesn't really say when their numbers come from so maybe they were just cherry-picking?

    Barenaked Ladies first big hit in Canada was "If I had $1000000". There's a part in the song that goes "We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner/But we would eat Kraft Dinner! In fact we'd just eat more."

    Note to those not in Canada: Kraft Dinner is Kraft brand macaroni and cheese.

  13. Re:ATI works great for me with Linux on ATI's 1GB Video Card · · Score: 2, Informative

    Try turning on the whiz bang hardware accelerated effects in KDE. You get a nice garbage screen if you turn on "Use translucency/shadows" in Window Behavior under desktop in the Control Center. Apparently it works great on the FOSS drivers for the Radeon 8500 and below but I get a screen full of garbage on my 9800. Probably not a big deal for most people but its very annoying to me.

    Also frustrating is the lack of support for games played through Cedega, I just installed the Cedega timedemo tonight and Guild Wars almost but not quite works. I have characters missing heads and the frame rate is about 2 frames per second. I can get decent frame rates with a different setting but it crashes if I go to another district. This may be fixable, but so far my next computer is going to have an nVidia GPU.

    Meh, no real worries about games requiring Vista anytime soon (except of course Microsoft stuff). Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, HalfLife2, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Star Wars: Empire at War (not even released officially yet), requirements all state that Windows 98 should work. Age of Empires 3, Doom 3 and Civilization IV are the only games that have 2000/XP required that I have any knowledge of.
