If not, then tell me when NASA is planning on going back to the moon? Even if there are concepts and ideas, do you really think they will get the funding for it the next 50 years? Ofcourse not. Flamebait? Heh. Tell me where I was wrong:-) Or was it the truth that hurt?
Wanna save my soul? Then don't butt into my life and try to convert me. Instead give me religious freedom, which, ofcourse includes freedom from religion.
Exactly. Whatever works best for the people and the environment is the best. That is why they build houses differently in Africa than we do in Europe and especially in cold areas like Scandinavia. The climate makes it important to come up with better heating system and such. Same thing with many other things.
I suspect that the technology and the course its taking and how far depends much on the culture, as well. Our technology fits well for a wealthcreating, timesaving society of producers and consumers. Techology has a place and a reason, and it is not its own reason.
While I'm not a socialist myself (I am, ofcourse, liberal (in the true sense of the word, not the american meaning)) I think that your post is stupid. I agree that socialism is not the way to go, because it might have the effect you describe. What you do not realize, is that noone is perfect, and that engineering failures has happened since we started to invent the first tools up to this day with our rockets and buildings and bridges. To say that the lack of socialism will ensure a 100% safe space program is so stupid, that I suspect you do not mean it seriously. Technology is developed by humans, it is applied and implemented by humans, and therefor there WILL be errors, somewhere.
I understand why you value intelligence. I guess it's the same reason why I, as a not so wealthy student, know how to value money.
But the thing is, I have written a few programs to calculate pi, perhaps I'm thinking how cool it would be if *I* could find a pattern... ofcourse, that's not likely, considering real mathematicians hasn't, yet. I know it's unnecessary to calculate as many digits of pi as possible, but somehow I still think they should. I don't know why. It's a bit irrational:)
Yes it wasnt it the movie, sadly. The closest they got, was the star like circle of sand grains in her hand. And in the novel she didn't go alone, but I'm guessing the movie focused even more on Ellie and her father.
There are no words for how I'm feeling about this.
I'm just having this big smile on my face, and I feel so good. I may not have to suffer so badly from the Coca Cola withdrawal I've had all night so far. This is so good:-D
For the record, most Americans DESPISE WITH IMMENSE HATRED that which is the, "Anna Nicole Smith Show". Just wanted to make that clear.
Yes, I know. Actually I've got a friend "over there" (USA, that is) who asked if we ever get to see the shows like Ricki Lake and Jerry Springer, and I said yes, to which she laughed and said "oh, just want to tell you, we're sorry!":)
So yeah, don't worry, I've never judged America or americans because some of the shows are crap. To me, it only shows me the great variety of people, ideas, expressions and opinions that you have over there. Because most of my favorite movies and TV shows come from USA; whether it be science fiction, thriller, comedy, mystery... you know how to make entertaining TV and films. And the stuff that *I* don't like, is stuff someone else like. So it's all good. Something for everyone.
It's bad enough people think we actually watch Jerry Springer.. No.. Just the idiots and trash. Which Europe has plenty of too, as well as every other country in the world.
And I have to agree on the last statement. I didn't mean to say that everything american is trash and everything not, isn't. Too many people say that already, because they see only the bad things, and even when they don't, they still say it's something bad. They complain about anything that is american, just for the sake of it, and quite frankly it makes me sick and tired of hearing that over and over, because obvisouly they haven't seen their own countrys' flaws.
I enjoyed the Rama sequels (have yet to read Rama Revealed though). The sequels to 2001, like 2010 and 2061 were great, but 3001 pretty much sucked hard, and I am surprised it was written by Clarke! He can write a thousand times better than that.
Ok, I didn't play with Lego that long ago, but I do remember that you couldn't build anything with the parts I had, either. Sure, I had the moonbase and all, but many of the more advanced parts was to make it more real. You could still build anything from the parts that you had. But that was sometimes the fun of Lego; how do I build something with these blocks? I agree some of the Lego blocks nowadays are very much decoration (pre-made), but the thing is, you still have to use your creativity to build other things than cubes in varying sizes.
Lego is made for anything you want it to be made for! You should have seen the houses, cars, planes, space shuttles, rockets, cities, robots, etc etc etc, that I've made for as long as I can remember. Lego blocks are like real voxels, you can use them to make any shape. What do YOU want to do with Lego? Cubes? With your way of thinking, noone can even make pyramids out of Lego blocks, cause that wouldn't be an exact pyramid. Were you ever a kid, like, at all? Your subject says it all about the rest of your post: "I don't get it". That's true.
(Yeah mod me down or whatever. Lego was a big and important part of my childhood.)
Maybe privatization is the only way to come up with the money. The exploration and exploitation of space and the celestial bodies will be carried out by private companies anyway.

The private market will more or less take over the moon, and NASA isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

If people knew how to be responsible with guns, guns would be rather unnecessary.
Gund don't kill people, rapid lead poisoning kill people.

And if they occur randomly, how the heck can we know that the formulas we're using to calculate pi are correct?
I can't believe I find this funny :)
Search for strigns of numbers among the 100 million forst digits
No matter how many decimals they calculate, that "tiny fraction" will always be just as tiny as always...

Thanks to all. :(
Kinda sucks that we didn't get to see those Simpsons episodes over here yet
Dudes! What is this Soviet Russia deal all about?

Seriously, Europe IS absorbing everything you give us. Guess what show was bought and now aired over here, if not Anna Nicole Smith Show :-(

So what if your body rejects your new face? When not even you can stand your own face. Now that can't be good.
