answered the phone once after getting this call... yeah, guy said i had a 95... sucker... too bad i have a 94... he hung up on me promptly ("have a nice day." I think he said).
if we could find the person who's texting me by the name of "candy", i'd be a happy man...
"no other versions will be provided by default; we feel the KJV is the only English version that can be fully trusted"
-ROTFL
"Optionally disable logins on Sunday, the day of rest"
-What about the Seventh Day Adventists?
"No encryption provided; Christians have nothing to hide"
-...Right. Lemme just go ahead and see your CC#'s, and SSN.
Is that serious?
I wonder how long tripod (lycos) will carry on?
which, i believe is why the garbage in garbage out syndrome is affecting 'users'. I can't imagine what the 'QA/QC' is like involved in the development of the modeling software for financial sector. shouldn't it be as regulated as, perhaps, the nuclear industry?
Or maybe nobody can maintain all those lines of COBOL...
Isn't the system based on 'speculation' ? I suppose it's different when my broker misplaces a decimal point, versus a computer program that misplaces a decimal point for thousands of 'clients'.
Technology might be a great thing for convenience, but it's certainly starting to show its limits in the scope of what humans expect from it.
for using TrueCrypt (or some other derivative). Aforementioned individual wouldn't have exposed that kind of sensitive information with an encrypted volume on the thumb drive. Shoot, Vista wouldn't have "looked" for an XML file in the case of an encrypted volume in the first place!
This doesn't change my love for the ASUS mobo in my desktop. Solid.
... then Staples should have no problem paying for a return policy on the discs to keep some of the more toxic chemicals on these discs OUT of _my_ state's LANDFILLS! I mean, we _are_ trying to be a GREEN country, aren't we? (Some might note the sense of sarcasm in the last sentence, are are correct.)
Would my entire genetic code be considered Intellectual Property, and if so, can I get a patent? Hmmm... maybe my parents would get me the birthday gift that keeps giving (legal entertainment), the patent for my genes. w00t!
... because I simply _don't_ trust any company/companies with market share as vast as Intel (yeah, I know, the "Traitorous Eight"). Apparently, AMD has had a lot of legal beef with Intel in the past, in fact, they used to be best buds, until Intel snaked AMD from some business with IBM. I know it's only a matter of time before Intel outwits AMD in the mass sales of proc.'s (esp. in the desktop/laptop field... I personally LOVE the power-saving on my Dual-Core... 3.5 Hrs avg. on a battery is GREAT for the powerhorse that it is), but what can AMD do? Merge with ATI... oops, already been done. So is AMD restricted to GPU market for the rest of their (profitable) life?
I can see this going two ways:
1) Intel forces AMD outta business. AMD ends up liquidating its stock/technology to foreign companies (read: outside USA).
2) AMD Brings an Anti-Trust case against Intel for 'unfair practices' or some crap (IANAL).
However, there is ALWAYS the possibility that Intel pulls another Pentium Bug. Remember the mid-late 90's ? (God how _could_ we _forget_ the 90's!?)
Either way, AMD needs to diversify their R&D and/or look for more lucrative business opportunities (whatever that means), or -the winner IMHO- work with IBM on this power saving crusade.
I used to have a thinnet rg-6 network back in school (10base2)... 2.5MIPS max. Plus you HAD to have a 75ohm terminator on any unused end. Never touched token ring... and from what I hear, a pain!
All things considered, the CAT5 spec has been pushed quite a ways, even in the roll-out of CAT6e. These are the types of people that the industry needs. Individuals that can push what we have to the limit (hrmmm... let's twist the wires and then shield them for better resistance against cross-talk, thus improving bandwidth!) I applaud our existing Ethernet Overlords, and welcome the new age of Fiber!
Seriously, that must be the next thing, since copper, or any conductor, has its limitations.. (speed of the electrons, eddy currents, all that fun science...) With the advent of stopping light, quantum computing (vaporware?) fiber must be next... mmmm... everbody needs a little fiber in their diet!
... because confused execs sit in their parent's basement and surf slashdot at all hours of the day. Not to discredit the wonders of the/. system, because/.ing is a real phenomenon (ask any down-to-earth web admin), they had it coming, and many in the/. crowd were just waiting.
This was an inevitable event, since SCO's stock a few months back was no more than 27ish cents... dear god, why didn't anyone put a bullet in that poor horse when it got out of hand? Well folks, just proves, even with a lot of high dollar lawyers, you still can't get out of jail free card. I hope this will stand as a standard for those twisted enough to try this kind of crap-- whether it be civil (Paris, OJ, et al) or business in SCO's case. It's these little victories that give me hope for the future of our judicial system. Perhaps a few more people will wake up and drink some coffee... speaking of which......i'm out.
For instance, the waste issue in Michigan. http://www.cleanwateraction.org/mi/donttrashmi.htm
This could be the beginining of the end for landfills! Not to mention its uses on the interplanetary space missions we all have been waiting for!
Not to be prudish, but, if you watch ANY major flick, (minus the PIRATED versions) there is an FBI warning before anything else happens, stating 100,000 usd fines and/or jail-time for illegal coping, distribution and the like (IANAL- obviously). Perhaps that is where the 100k figure originates...
fishy, perhaps. Innocent until proven guilty (at least I hope that's still true...)
... But my only question to the slashdot community is... and this is a cold thought:
What if you had the key to solving a sickness, that by the standards of mere numbers and statistics, has been responsible for the deaths of millions? Playing God, are we? Irradicate an illness which in some notion, has kept Mother Earth's human population at check. People will think what they will, but if you had the power, what would you do? Be a good ol' humanitarian, or would you deny the gift (or curse, if you will)? Think about all the lives that would be saved, think about the effect it could have on the population.
Next on slashdot: How one man continues to live after 246 years...
Everybody wants to be immortal... the notion of an after-life... increasing life expectancy.
Birth Control, Abstainence- do those sound familiar? Rape happens every day, as well as murder, theft, domestic violence, car accidents, mental scorn from peers, death, the list goes on...
...AND LIFE.
("...Mom's gonna fix it all soon. Mom's coming 'round to bring it back the way it oughta be")
... after reading the article. I am a taxpaying Michigan citizen, and I am wondering, WTF is going to pay for that Canuck's mistake (Granholm- no I am not fond of her. Does anyone know that Michigan's governor was a citizen of Canada?!? Sounds fishy to me...No offense to our northerly neighbors either.)
This lawsuit ultimately falls on the pockets of Michigan taxpayers... HOW does this happen!?!? The funny thing is, we had no involvment regarding the passing of this bill (ergo, the representatives in the Michigan legislature that we "voted" for)
Is it just me, or is this whole government thing getting a little out of hand? Since when does the US government have morals? I thought those were abolished...
Oh, BTW, (O.T.) you non-michigan viewers will get a kick out of this. Apparently this same state has a law against cursing in public in front of children (which I could understand) and women. I had a friend that went to court for that one.
Can I just buy a ticket to the moon, and live there? This is ludicris!
I recently purchased a asus k8v se deluxe motherboard and have had NO PROBLEM finding the proper support for the onboard AUDIO and NIC (and ieee1394). Running a athlon 64 3000+ that tigerdirect sent me instead of a sempron 3000... oh well, their loss! (runs great)
Currently running a slack 9.1 distro w/ a 2.4.23 kernel... everything runs like a top. No unnecessary third party absurd drivers... no crap, just the goods.
My soundcard/dlink nic are sitting in my closet... can you say 'machine number 2'? I find that having parts for another machine on-hand helps when things go wrong (not that this board doesn't have a 3 year warranty).
I'd like to see this fly, since there are some really kewl games out ther for the cube, w/ decent quality graphics. But, i wonder..
I found out that those sly engineers at Nintendo thought up a brilliant copy protection method. The Gamecube uses a Constant Linear Velocity read method, instead of the conventional Constant Angular Velocity. CAV is what CD's and such use, where the speed of the data disc is variable but the reading motion stays the same... whereas CLV keeps the speed of the spinning at a set rate, but the optic is variable in movement. (better explaination, here).
So the speed of the disc would not effect the GC's copy to an ISO as much as the optic speed would... the possibilities seem endless here.
that "flat", pastel, square look. Like, Windows 8. Or new iOS. Heck, at least it's not Skeuomorphic... ... I admit, it is easier on the mobile.
I hear that http://www.goatse.cx/ is offering webmail now...
I guess that's what I get for hitting post without the proper Engrish parsing... Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, I'd say it's pretty cool. I'd put it up there with the Lego Antikythera mechanism: http://science.slashdot.org/story/11/01/29/0336249/A-Lego-Replica-of-the-Antikythera-Mechanism
