seems www.fedora.info is using a hat that looks similar to redhats doesnt it?
im sure everyone will throw stones for a while...till the glass house falls down.
Ah yes, and if anyone know what the colored stuff in lava-lamps is, please tell me. Pouring some of that stuff in could make the case-mod very interesting...
I disagree, I used to be a consultant for a small tech firm that catered to these rich people who need computers and 6 flat panels just to watch there money at home....sure as shit...everyone I went to the first thing they asked me to do was how to use napster/p2p/etc. I went to a guy one time...whos quickbooks bottom line was 78million....and he wasn't worried about backing that up...but was worried about re-downloading all of his music.
odd. and 1 guy used to even owned a huge 2.4billion dollar company that sold tickets/rand shows/ and produced concerts!
blaster didn't take down my 2 big gun routers. Granted our cisco guys should have implimented ICMP throttling, but when you have 70k machines...and maybe half are patched....the rest generate lots of ICMP traffic.
Anyone have the defcon slides handy? I looked at them on the plane home, but let someone borrow my CD. They are EXCELLENT slides, too bad I missed the presentation. I'm sure the one I went to instead was not worth it.
Everyone seems to mention they don't care about windows networking, etc. etc. First off all, I do fine with Samba for basic needs. Second....if you don't care about windows networking...I ask...do you have an IT job? Believe it or not...most companies run on a windows network. Welcome to the real world, where unfortunatly you HAVE to play with the other kids!
I would LOVE for someone to try to tell uppper management "hey..we have this new operating system...thats mostly free..has less support that MS...and can't really play nice with our current network...so we have to migrate that too...BUT it will save us a little bit of money"
I do agree, however that MS should be more open with standards so that other OS's can interoperate with it's networking components. After all..I did see a UNIX services for Windows CD in my last SYSadmin.
...but unfortunately did not see a windows services for linux in my last windows magazine!
The best move I ever made was getting rid of verizon and switching to Vonage. I have yet to regret it. VoiP Is SO the way to go...even to the door step!
Honestly, who the hell wants to hack/0wn an OSx desktop. Wouldnt be of much use to the kiddies....now own 20000 windowsXP desktops and you have yourself something to brag about on IRC. Also, not many people are familiar with looking for vulnerabilities in OSX.
It's not becuase they are not there...its just nooone is looking for them.
Who really knows? I mean...of course we know some closed-source applications just plain out have horrible code, but being closed-source, we really can't look at it can we? With open-source, I think because it is open, it is critiqued more.
thats what TiVo is for........silly silly...

Coming in fall....can't wait.
mainly becuase seperate mpeg encoding. Try doing that with a PC and your up to the big bucks again with about 30% of the performance.
with my tivo i can save something to VCR, and record or view at the same time, etc.
An associate was saying this is basically a rebadged tivo...and if it's not tivo hardware, they are licensing TiVos technology.
Now...put a "save to DVD" option on one of these..and I'm sold.

I'll stick with the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy.

Unfortunatly, if you are a consultant...that is the real world.
;)
I used to get soo frustrated....until I quit and moved to a big company....now I only get a little frustrated.
I blame this mainly on the economy....now adays its more about the "bottom-line" (shiver)...

I'm sure it was either cut bandwidth...or people....or both.
With RIAA breathing down everyones backs, I'm sure it would take a small lawsuit to put these guys in the negative earnings.
Business.

Don't use ghost if you are doing any type of forensics, or learn how to use it the "right" way.
dd is a much more efficient solution
