You have to realize that its not always parents buying the games. As i mentioned in an earlier post, my manager's kid had a copy of GTA 4. She didnt buy. He does chores, saves money from his birthday, whatever, either he bought the game some place where the clerk doesnt give a damn who they sell to (the kid is 14) or another adult bought it, but not his parents. His mother broke it and threw it away once she realized he had it. Hell, she did the same to GTA 3 when he had it, so i dont know what he was thinking anyway.
doesnt mean a damn, yet, for consoles. my manager told me her son was playing GTA IV on his PS3 and when she finally realized what it was she broke it and threw it away.
I did, of course, make the point that she should have paid attention to it *before* he played it to start with. It is, however, likely that hell just go play at a friends anyway.
TIE Fighter was one of my faves *nostalgia* God, i wish theyd do it again. It could be beautiful and played over the internet with ease (dont mention XvsT in the era of dial-up). Id buy that and a rig to play it on, i bet.
Textbooks are clearly a lucrative business, good luck getting enough people to care about the costs to overcome whatever lobby various publishers would put together to keep the status quo.
If a mammal can look at itself in a mirror and recognize itself, its self aware. I suggest you do some actual science. You will find that scarcely any mammal is able to do this. Maybe some apes, that's it. I think elucido is about as sensible as any religious person, and I think most of his reasoning is a colossal waste of time, but, to each his own. However, while indeed few, it *is* more than apes that can recognize themselves in mirrors.
(other than having customer service inform me "it's not possible to connect to our internet using Linux... ") this is typical of AT&T. I got the same kind of crap when i purchased their DSL service. They refused to connect me and I managed to convince the CSR that I could do it, I swear, and besides....your company wants to make money, not lose it. I shouldnt have to argue this. After a while they agreed to send me the modem and software...
I had to call in and have someone make my account for me. Their account creation only supports IE, because the Java buttons are broken under firefox. bastards.

downloading an entire office suite is a god damn hassle when someone just wants to read a document. i tried sending papers to friends so they could proofread it for me and help me out (im a lousy writer), and nobody wanted to be hassled to download an entire office suite, then install something, just to read it. it was *far* easier to save the document as.doc and just be done with it.
dont get me wrong. id prefer openoffice. id prefer if Word, etc could open ODF documents, itd be nice, but right now its a pain in the ass sometimes. as i mentioned in a previous post, i *have* to use office 2007 for school. it bugs the hell out of me, but then again, office is used everywhere:(
OO is good for plenty. my sister got a job writing some copy for a local newspaper, and her word trial was up....OO works for her, as long as she saves to.doc so the editor can read her submissions.
if thats the only requirement you have, thats slack. for one of my classes the instructor would ONLY accept docx documents for papers.
my database intro class is ENTIRELY access 2007
ditto for word processing and spreadsheets. I got office 2007 as a student for 60 bucks, because its basically required. ive had to use it so much at the end of this semester, in fact, that i barely boot into linux anymore, because i just had to reboot to do my school work:(
i get 2 weeks off from school, 2 weeks where i wont have to dual-boot, then i have to start the aforementioned Access class, and intro to programming, which will undoubtedly require me to program something for Windows
it's a combination of linux and Free software zealotry
as i understand, they remove binary blob drivers from the kernel, as well as only support free software for the distro.
probably hardcore programmers for a living, its hard to imagine anyone else not wanting(or needing) to have some non-free software for at least a *few* things
or maybe theyre hypocrites, and install binary stuff on the side while hiding their shame.

to be fair throwing putty and your keys on a usb key *isnt* that big of a deal. but i really dont want to do email browsing in a cli, thanks.
and if its a tower he can build his own, unless hes looking for entry-level he should save a few bucks easily enough.

so what do they do after those 9 sales?
So the trick for french is: fuck up the spelling as long as it sounds the same? ;)
yeah, not exactly the same. but a dual touchscreen device isnt that amazing. What will be amazing is if they can hit even $150 for this thing.

lets play a game and replace "country[ies]" with "market[s]" to get a better idea of how google views India and China

catch fish? double entendre for the win.
ill start at a wikipedia article

and finally live science
According to the Wikipedia article, humans, apes, magpies, dolphins and pigeons recognize their self in a mirror.

are you saying my comment was lame? =(
isnt that how the Gatling gun was pitched?

youre talking communism, and we'll have none of that!
