    You're forgetting that you can even take a comfortable night train and sleep while you travel. I do this with my family when we need to cover a "one night's distance". We loose less "wake time" and we arrive in a better shape.

    In /. terms I'm an old fart (39) but I like the way you put this. However, don't forget that images as in comics are OK to convey emotions but that they fail horribly at communicating unambiguous information. Can you imagine an RFC as a comic/Graphic Novel? Also, the abilities to write and read well cannot be dismissed.

    The mass production of comics -as in non-pop-art- is considered an exponent of American decadency by most cocky Europeans. Comicization of news is mass produced comics at its finest.

    Still I know a few people that did and were disappointed and I see quite a few parallels with spam.

    Oh allow people to act stupid once in their life!

    Having said that, how many people haven't yet acted stupid? Maybe I should change business until the magic 80% has been reached. Then again, maybe I shouldn't.

    Introducing a tax of 1 penny for each e-mail sent would set the average user back about $1 - $5 a month.

    And of course you'd volunteer to set-up the administration office for this. And because of the taxing complexity -taxes are never simple- you'd hire loads of expensive consultants and loads of staff. Oh yeah and the customer service center to repeatedly say the service is sorry for mis-billing you and sorry still so many spam messages are sent...

    I'm sorry but I -and one or two other people- will strongly oppose to jobs for life at my costs.

    Oh come on US presence in the gulf is about oil. This expensive resource makes US want to "be present in the region" and part of the oil revenue is used to pay for terrorist's arms. Once it isn't a strategic resource any more (when it's finished or when it's made redundant by new technologies), US will loose interest, retreat and the terrorism will stop because it will not be financed any longer. "War against terrorism" is just smooth talk for "we want to secure our oil supply".

    The RIAA's fight is different because there always will be enough resources (musicians) out there. Their business model is still lawful and the product music isn't as morally reprehensible as drugs or alcohol.

    Also, the RIAA is an intelligent body that will not be pushed aside that easily. A huge change in people's awareness is needed for this to happen. That'll take time.

    You leave out the part with the legal proof. The plaintiff complaints and delivers itself the proof consisting of a log that could be compromised or made up.

    The judge probably will require more evidence. In a civilized country that is.

    IANAL, but you're probably slightly paranoia. Oh and in case of the stinking matter hitting the fan, communicate with them through a lawyer.

    My dad was a metal worker and we simply couldn't afford 2kUS$ for a PET Commodore. I hoped he would win the lotto one day but he never did.

    I recall begging teachers for CPU time and they refused claiming they needed the school computer for admin tasks (a load of BS.)
    A couple of times my brother in law let me in the university where I happily wrote Basic programs and tried out Algol.
    The technical school I attended closed the computer room during breaks so I only could use the free time I generated by finishing assignments very quickly.
    It wasn't until I was doing my BSc that I had access to a couple of HP systems running Unix.

    Nowadays setting up a programming box is dead easy. Linux has never been more easily available and most distros come with a variety of compilers/interpreters for decent languages.

    Why should you learn programming through Windows?

    Anyway, /. readers once they have interested kids will setup their own Linux/FreeBDS home network (at the latest.)
