Even if one day many years from now the law was repealed on account of [losing] this lawsuit so much damage would have happened on account of the precedent losing this lawsuit would have set that it wouldn't have mattered.

you might be thinking we won the battle but we didn't win the war, but I'm thinking that even if one day you win the war, if all the damn battles kill everyone one you know and ravage all your land and destroy all your buildings and ruin generations upon generations of life then it doesn't mean much to win the freaking war, does it?

at least with this battle won, there will be less - not more- battles to win.

If you want to lose a case and get the law repealed, why don't you violate the DMCA in a way taht isn't really violating the DMCA and let some huge company sue your ass and get you arrested and then we'll all talk about how it's good that you lost the lawsuit so that we can appeal to the supreme court and get the law repealed. Meanwhile your kids will grow up without you and some dude will bang your wife and you'll get initiated in prison and most of you life will be ruined. We'll all issue a big thank you in the slashdot comments after the supreme court repeals the DMCA and you'll get to tour the country giving speaches at LUGA conventions.

I'll add to this. I actually didn't want the Tivo, but my wife was having a hard time taping her shows now that she works nights. So she was using both vcrs on both tvs just to make sure that at least one would get the show, and I was stuck at home with two tvs on the same damn crappy show, and no wife to boot. so we buy a tivo, the direct TV kind and now I've even updated to run the second tuner. I love the tivo for these reasons. #1 - rewind live tv. Instant replay. I'm just like ABC Sports now. I can see the replay. #2 - super slow mo. I'm even more like ABC Sports. I can watch it over and over again in slow motion. The only thing I can't do is change camera angles or draw with the yellow line like John Madden. This is great for close fouls, And1 trick plays and women's tennis too :-) #3 - Two tuners, plus replay. So check this. On the one night of the week when there are two shows to tape (Fast lane and Bird's of Prey) if I don't want to watch either, I can play from the harddrive a show that is already recorded. So you're recording from both tuners and watching a third show. #4 - It is dead easy to program, the UI is super friendly. I have an ATI AIW, but it's not nearly as easy to use as the TIVO. The PC/AIW is good for hands on capturing (like if you're making a collection) the Tivo is click and forget. My only whine is that there is only 1 channel list. The satbox we had prior to the directivo allowed up to 4 channels, and a special hot list that worked like the window selector in linux desktops. We had one for her, one for me, one for sports channels and one for family channels.
