    Confuzzled is heavily used in the Central US. Its not generally used seriously either, just a cute term for puzzled confusion mostly among good friends.

    Next month, Nasa will launch the £138m Swift probe, which will sweep up to one sixth of the sky at a time, looking for sudden bursts. If all goes well, the probe could catch two three explosions a week.

    Swift was launched almost 6 months ago.

    Look, the rate of unemployment is 5.4%. It was 5.5% when Bill Clinton ran for reelection in 96. Amazingly, 5.4% for Bush is considered bad, 5.5% for Clinton is considered good. Go figure. Now if you're going to rant about job losses, you must remember the average rate for unemployment is roughly 6%. The mid-4s when Bush entered office were downright unusually low rates.

    Then enter the dot-com bust, the accounting fraud crisis that boiled over after it festered under the Clinton years, as well as 9/11.

    At 120 emails/day, its a freaking chore to clean it out. I keep my gmail ultra-secret, but my bogged down one was used for important stuff before it became a spam-packed mess.

    My 486SX-25MHz with 6MB (upgraded from 2!) of RAM and 110MB Seagate drive still runs like the day I bought it. I have reduced it to menial tasks such as routing the packets for the entire house.

    Its a tough little sucker though, for the heck of it one day, I installed Starcraft and Bryce 3D 4.0 on it.

    Both ran.

    I think a reasonably competitive industry would usher in a new era of space exploration. We wouldn't be confined by the total monopoly of government organizations like NASA and the ESA which are limited by a constant lack of public interest.

    How is John Carmack progressing with Armadillo Aerospace? The only major flights I keep hearing about are Rutan's.

    Personally I've been rooting for Carmack, but thats probably because I've just been a long fan of all of his work..

    Its possible, but there seems to be quite a bit of bedrock to get a stable foothold for the rover. I heard from one scientist on the radio that the particular area the rover arrived at has an easy slope, around 18 degrees as opposed to the sharp rise on the opposite side. Its possible the rover can get back out of Endurance.

    This is why I'm really reluctant to do even basic work on my car myself. Computers, there's only one way to risk killing yourself, and you'd have to be TRYING to do it. Car, one mistightened nut, and you're in traction.

    The contract I bought and paid for was 10/10mbps down/up from Multimedia/Roadrunner and unlimited usage. This was in August 1999.

    Enter Cox. Hostile takeover. Changes contract, 3mbps down/256kbps up, 2GB/day max usage and/or 30GB/month.

    I won't even get into their reliability.

    However, I have not received any such complaints, and I tend to take down somewhere around 30-35GB/month (best guess, I have a convoluted network setup). I have yet to see policy enforcement. I hope I don't see policy enforcement, and I try not to push it beyond 35GB/month.

    I'm not sure if it has to do with the new United States anti-spam law or not, but I have received the same amount of spam in 48 hours as I would have in 12 hours in 2003. About 45 emails.

    Cox still holds a regional monopoly. DSL is downright outrageous here, so Cox keeps it at "Moderately outrageous."

    I pay $105/month for basic TV service and internet.

    Meaning - No 24 hour period is to exceed 2GB of data transfer.

    However, no 30 day period is to exceed 30GB of data transfer.

    Here in Wichita, prior to the Cox Communications buyout, we had 10Mbps down/up.

    Now (since 2001) its been 3Mbps down/256Kbps up. Sucks.

    The Municipality of Anchorage takes a special sort of glee in intentionally naming new streets in a manner that will foul up the postal service. They love to be paid by the hour to argue with a postmaster. How do I know? I worked as a letter carrier.

    I know how that feels. I dread getting sent to the Milwaukee computers. Try playing with their grid addressing. N34 W12943 E Menomonee Ave (for example)
