Here in Portland, OR - they try and implement things like this, but then people just complain about the extra cost up-front.
When will Americans learn - if we build stuff cheap up front it is more expensive long term. If we spend more money up front, we save LOTS of money in the long term...
The article ( I know, none of you read it ) also talks about Kim Vanvaeck. She was arrested as well.
The funny part is, she might have been good at code - but she was not good at crime.
A quick Google groups search comes up with funny stuff. Like her back in 1998 asking for someone to please send her a virus so she could learn about them.
Or her in a discussion about sleep habits which starts out asking for the best "hacker babe"...
There are more. But the best part is that in almost all of them she always ties her real name, "Kim Vanvaeck", to her "hacker name", "Gigabyte". It must have taken the authorities a whole 7 minutes to track her down...
As an aside, anyone able to find a photo of her? This is Slashdot... It would be cool if she was as attractive as Angelina Jolie in the [silly] movie "Hackers". (Why else do you think I would be searching on her name?)
Actually, the dealership in Salem, OR had two TDI-PD Jettas in three weeks ago, and a Jetta wagon on the "ship" due for them. I almost bought it - but due to the high demand, the deals are just not right...
And they were requiring a deposit to test drive one of the PDs....;) They said they were quite nice.
Actually - to nitpick, it's a 1.9l engine. And the new Pump Deuse engines (PD) have more horsepower, torque, and better fuel economy.
In my 02 TDI new Beetle (not the new PD engine, sadly:( ), I get about 40mpg in the city and > 50 on the highway, and that is using BioDiesel, and not one engine modification.:) Clean and renewable.
Of course 9/11 happens once every year, usually in September in the USA but in most of the world it can happen in November.
This, in my opinion, is why "9/11" is a terrible name for what happened. (Oh, yeah, and since I am ranting here - it is NOT, I repeat - NOT Nine-One-One. It is Nine-Eleven. They *are* different).
Of course if you are referring to the terrorist attacks on Septemeber 11, 2001 - then I agree. The same style of terrorist attacks will never happen again. They can't. Not because of the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) or even any "biometric" scanners at airports (see, I am kinda on-topic?). But because they exposed their hand, we know their "poker face" for that one. Nope - the next one (and there WILL be a next one) will be entirely different - and just as unexpected.
The only way to win the war on Terrorism is to get people to stop hating us, to get people not WANTING to terrorize us.
Otherwise - either people die, or we become a police state. Neither one is appealing to me.
And it never hurts to have fun pop - with good eye candy... But along that vein, I actually own ALL the Spice Girls albums, AND the movie "Spice World" which I think is quite funny.
Will it drive customers to his place? I doubt it; most small companies like that survive on local ads and word of mouth.
Not true. Maybe 10 years ago you were correct, but now - a HUGE number of people have access to the net, and probably darn near 100% of people with disposable income have net access.
Out of those with net access, tons and tons have net access and use it for things like this.
Now of course I have no statistics, but let me give you an example of how this influences how my friends and I spend our money...
We are looking for a place to eat. We know we want a specific genre, but some of our group have special dietary needs - so having access to menus is beneficial... So we hit dexonline or citysearch and do a general search. Then we look specifically for restaurants that have online presences - to get more info. If the establishment doesn't have a site - we usually just skip it. But some restaurants have great sites, that without which we probably would not have ever tried the place... Now we go there a lot...
I am also regularly looking for plumbers, handymen, yard work - all online. Add to that I search for places to take kids, recreational places, or even for places that carry specific products.
I view a web presence as a MUST for local business - especially if you want me to shop at your store, as opposed to a national chain that I know carries the products I need. I definately prefer shopping locally, but sometimes - I just might not know a local option exists. But a quick Google search for "Portland Pet Supplies" should turn up my local pet store, and if not - the store probably won't get my business unless I happen to know where you are from some other method....
A lot of people spend a lot of time in front of thrir computers all day at work. Why not help them find your business for when they get off and go out to spend money?
Actually, no, they were not "CONVICTED", and putting it in all caps won't make it true.
Yeah, but putting it in ALL CAPS will make it, uhh, capitalized?
Hey - cut the guy some slack, maybe he is a COBOL programmer...

So, you think it's awesome that they don't actually say what they believe, and instead just use a strawman argument to discredit the other side?
Sort-of, yeah. See, when I turn to a liberal radio station - like the ones that would be playing Air America, I already know what they believe. And most of the shows do say what they believe (Randi Rhodes for one...)
Of course - it is nothing new, right? It's almost kind-of pointless for either side to listen, because not only do you know what they are going to say - but odds are that if you are listening anyway - you probably already agree...
You know, preaching to the choir and all that...
But the Al Franken show is unique, because - well, as a radio guy - he sucks... Which means he is not following all the same crappy paradigms that the other shows do - and it is a nice break from the norm.
Other than that, any shows on the right or the left are largely propaganda - and should be taken as the sum of a whole, not as gospel truth...
But as Dennis Miller says - I could be wrong.

There's three guys that I think have much less BS than anyone, and they are John Stewart, Dennis Miller, and O'Reilly.
O'Reilly? WTF? I'll give you the other two, but O'Reilly? He lies almost as much as Limbaugh.
If you listen to Air America radio (biased towards the left obviously) the Al Franken show is pretty much the arch-nemisis of O'Reilly (in fact Al Franken named it the "O'Franken" factor for a while trying to goad O'Reilly in to a lawsuit or something).
Now of course they are biased - but I like how the Al Franken show works. They do basically little commentary of their own, but they focus on debunking the right-wing shows commentary. One of the best things they do is catch the right's lies. They will have actual tapes of, say, O'Reilly saying one thing one day, and then the opposite the next. Or they will have tapes of O'Reilly commenting on something incorrectly, and then play the thing it was O'Reilly was commenting on to show the error...
O'Reilly is as bad as they come, and anyone - conservative or not - should be worried about how much the media gets away with passing off as truth...
If you work in Oregon, you pay Oregon income tax - no matter where you live. The best way to "beat" the system is to Live and Work in Vancouver, Washington - and shop in Portland.
Problem is, Vancouver, Washington sucks... All the cool places to live are in Portland, more specifically Multnomah county - which now also has an added county income tax...
And it has been said before, but I'll pile it on. Running BioDiesel , the volkswagen TDI is BY FAR the most efficient and environmentally sound vehicle you can have in the USA. And it's power is NOT crippled, it's ammenities are NOT reduced. You can get a TDI Passat that is as luxurious as you want, burn BioDiesel in it and still get >40 mpg. I average 54mpg in my 02 TDI New Beetle, and I drive fast. I can get close to 60mpg if I keep the speeds around 60mph.
The CARB restrictions are bunk when it comes to the modern TDI (and now Mercades CDI) engines. They test the wrong things in the wrong way - making no sense for real world issues or in real practical use.
Metallica has been a band since 1981. Thats 23 years ago, for the math impaired. I know that *I* have changed a LOT in 23 years.
So if Metallica changes as they gain length in the tooth, why do people slam them so hard?
Bands change people. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, whatever - any band that has been around for many years and many albums will sound NOTHING like what they used to. If you don't like the new stuff - don't listen to it, but it doesn't mean they suck or you have to hate them.
I mean man, look at Bon Jovi. If you played anything up to "New Jersey" next to anything on the last couple albums - you wouldn't even think they were the same band... I'll tell you the Bon Jovi concert last year was much divverent than their "Slippery When Wet" tour...
Oh, and James is a professional ROCK STAR. Not a professional PR manager, or Marketing exec, or Speech writer. What do you expect him to say?
I, personally, like Metallica's new stuff just as much as the old stuff - but for ENTIRELY DIFFERENT REASONS. And the concert was a blast, and still - they rock harder and better than anyone out there...
I know you were joking and stuff - but just for reference, some dumb ass arenas and crappy venues don't sell or allow alcohol... OK for good bands but I bet it makes the crappy opening acts sound a lot worse without any beer...:)

Oh, wait. That would be smart...
If you will notice, the few that are still there that are related to the domain name issue, are dated much older...
Based on that, I am guessing they simply just removed all reviews posted yesterday....

I think that NOW JibJab is being threatend with a Slashdotting...
The first time I have seen a site Slashdotted before the first Slashdot post!

Yeah, because I frequently need to stop bullets or pound nails and stuff with my $1000 camera.
iDiot.
I worry about it every night. I worry it will be no one... Again...
I wonder what Knoppix's market share is?
What about my cat's?
Show us where the Jetta TDI has a bad reliabilty rating?

Right. And send our trash and dirty bathrooms where, to India?
