    Remeber hackers have an ethics clause built into their "contracts" . Once broken you trade it health plans for orange jumpers and the chance of having your manhood "rooted". I hope he gets a cell big enough to count the days in binary on his wall.

    Everyone seems to be thingking about this from their own personal point of view (and thats fine), but not everyone needs to go through walls. For example: company A has 2 locations on the same street across from each other (or down the block or just somewhere in close proximity to each other) Dark fiber hasn't been laid in the streets, they can slap one of these on the top of each building and point them at each other. Granted I am not taking the elements into account, mainly because I don't know how this would be affected by it. Point is though, there is a reason this is being developed, someone, somewhere saw a need for it. I agree.

    Devices like linksys suffered from a much larger security problem. IGNORANCE! Highspeed access in the home has broght about a whole new type of internet user. The type that doesn't log off. Lets be honest, many of us are lazy. We know what we are doing but still lazy. Then there is the other group, not lazy, but they don't know what they are doing. The security issues that go along with Mulitple machines, always connected to the internet without ANY protection (Node firewalls like norton internet security for example or virus protection, i don't need to give an example of that) far exceed any "NEW" issues that may now exist becuase of a flaw in this product. Education!!! Plain and simple will reduce any threat that this flaw or any other would exacerbate.

    The never ending game of copy protection and "crackers" will end one side gives up. I think we all know the crackers aren't going to. Is there ANY proof that these copy protection schemes have saved any company any money? I can pull up a lot of "research-data" that says they have lost money, but it occurs to me that these protection schemes are quite a waste of money. Does anyone have an argument as to why companies should continue to develop such technologies?

    The article claims this has been out for a while now, I have to admit I new nothing about it. I don't keep up as much as I would like to on these type of things. After a little google-ing though I've found user testimonials to be quite positve. Anyone else own one have anything to add? Good or Bad.

    that they got caught. German laws allow for this, Sloppy work on the part of either the telecom company or the police (or both). If its one thing American Inteligence ( homebound anyway) is good at is keeping the public unaware of these types of things. Is that a good thing? Thats an agrument for another post.

    These bugs don't have the same implications that bugs in IE have. Not just because of market share either. Mainly because the softaware isn't tied to other programs (eg: mail being the biggest) that can then be used to distribute a viri.

    My attraction is I can and do use it when I'm on trhe road and at a hotel bar for example or just on the can. Its the size that sold me, I expected a big differnce from the IBM T series ( which I use for "real" work. But the sony picture book fits in my hand.

    Looks like the MS bashing train gets off here. I love those trans meta chips. Especially in the Sony Picture books, it has reduced the amount of heat generated by them by at least half. So if it means that I gotta Kiss MS A$$ to continue to see these, then here goes: Screw that...... APPLE ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!

    I am in no way a linux guru and/or expert, in-fact I am about as wet behind the ears as you can get. Debian comes off as being one of those distros that you should only bother installing if you are in-the-know. I have been very curious about debian for a while now and have always went the RH or slackware and mandrake route beacause of the ease of install. I have to admit though that, A) this article helps TONS & B) debian has gotten much better for us newbs. This is a MUST read!!!

    Ximian will also do pretty much the same thing for you as the red hat network and I found that it is very user friendly and works well.

    I think there is something to be said for a Distro that if not by design at least by default is geared to those with a little more linux knowledge under their belt. There are still more linux Distros than users and they shouldn't all need to be designed to "steal" MS users. As far as up-to-date software, I have to admit that I have a RH 5.0 box running with some pretty old ftp software on it that is still rock solid.

    I know NOTHING about BSD, however I thought it was *nix-like and you didn't want apps running around all will-nilly ( yes I said will, nilly) with elevated rights. What makes this so news worty? Until I read the whole thing I actually thought a secutity flaw was unearthed.

    I finally after many years just began trusting roller coasters ( including the cyclone http://www.astroland.com/cyclone.html, I live in Brooklyn, NY) and after reports like this one http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/WABC_071002_coast ers.html and a few others on news mags I have mustered up enough balls to get back on them and now I hear that your average joe shmoe is building caosters? Is this thing safe? Has it been tested? Is there an "Authority" that approves roller caosters at all?

    I can't say I know much about the flag issue, ( didn't read the link yet). But I have to admit, as far as RH being all about bottom lines, as long as the continue to raise the bar-more power to them. I do beleive that it will take a company with revenue, and lots of it to make linux more "rounded". Every now and then the ends DOES have to justity the means.

    I second that. The UI should not something by default that people get stuck with, it should be by design.
