Its always a good idea to repair permissions as well as booting off of the install cd and repairing any hard drive issues. This saves a lot of headaches.
There are many uses for it. for one, competetion is a good thing. The more the better. It forces innovation and evolution in products. products have a reason to become better. Also, you are belittling their open source efforts. Soem open source is better than none. They are off to a good start. Apple and Sun both contribute to open source, but do not release eveything that way, why cant real?
Production car is implied when they say fastest car.

Your reffering to hp when the previous poseter is referring to torque. The chevy v8 used in the corvette and other models can get 22 mpg, even with its large size, because torque is optimized down low.
"Americans are encouraged to actually save money, since if they don't spend it, they don't pay taxes on it"
This is good and bad. it shouldnt be filed under pros because if people dont spend money then the economy doesnt move.
"Suited to a wide range of optical imaging applications, including digital cameras."
I take this to mean that it is not ready for precision applications and that it may not be. either way, this will take time to get any better
If it aint broke, dont fix it. They made their money by not competing directly with microsoft and intel, etc. As long as they continue to profit, there is no reason they need to change their current business model. Dont get me wrong, cheaper macs would be nice, but they may not be (as) profitable for Apple.
If someone bought 99 tracks at 99, the 100th is free when compared to a buck a song. It matters to some people, but not everyone. This is one of teh few places where I see a penny making a difference.
Id say use an Apple laptop with a G3 processor (read iBook) it will give you a good power/horsepower ratio. If you feel it drains too much, or you want x86 compatibility then get a transmeta powered laptop.
Whatever you get, get a laptop. If your power goes out, you can bring the laptop somewhere else and work.
I love Panther, its greater in almost every way, except for one. I have mp3s playing constantly and when I also have mpgs playing in either quicktime, mplayer, or VLC I can get a complete freeze. Is anyone else seeing this?
When I come home from college I use my old Apple performa 6300. TV tuner card with remote. Mpeg decoder card. 8x cdrom, upgraded from stock 4x. 2.4 GB hard drive space, up from 1.2. Maxed out at 64mb ram. OS 8.6 and Yellowdoglinux 2.3. I need to get my old telephone software working with it again and it can become an answering machine for me.
According to this white paper 43 watts is the normal usage, which leaves room for it to get hotter. However I am with you in the highly doubtful camp that it nears 100 watts at any time.
Max out the RAM !!! *
Get a graphics card that has at least 16MB of ram to take advantage of Quartz Extreme. *
Get a processor upgrade if possible. *
Wait for 10.3 - Reports say that older g3 performance will be vastly improved over previous OS X versions. *
Get free programs from http://www.macupdate.com and http://www.versiontracker.com. * Unsanity has a free tool that disables shadows which may help. Another fine program is Diabolitin. It is like the extensions manager in OS 9. You can disable unused extensions.
PDAs and laptops have converged into one form, it is called the tablet based pc. Perhaps you meant to be more specific and say into a smaller form than the laptop.
This has been done before. Companies like Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls royce will go to great lengths to make sure you get what you want. What makes this guys idea so great is that it will be customizable cars for the genreal masses. Most people looking for a new car will be in this guys target market.
Not having to compress video and audio, thus not degrading the quality, is one use we would not mind having. It is good for both pros and average users alike.
Microsoft will not kill off VPC for many reasons.
1. It can sell a licensed copy of Windows with every product. They are a software company, so this is good for them.
2. They can limit VPC to use only windows products. This pushes their software over the competitors.
3. They can discontinue products for the mac and make people use VPC for compatability until they are willing to switch over to their platform. Either way, its Microsoft software they are using.
4.They have a way for people/companies to run older Microsoft OSes inside the new ones... such as running NT inside of Server 2003.
I agree, brushed metal does not belong. Brushed metal is for Apple apps that are non system apps. Aqua is for the operating system apps. Hope that helps.
I am a firm believer that Microsoft bought VPC for the windows side of things. It is a runtime environment that they can use to get people to upgrade from os/2 or nt and onto xp or longhorn. VPC provides a runtime environment so that people can use there old OSes on newer hardware with newer programs. What happens to the mac side is not really important to them, so VPC for mac could be next.

you can now sync zaurus' with ical and mail, etc. I am extremely happy about this. http://www.dsitri.de/wiki.php?page=Projects
Dont forget that the driver is in the middle, not on the left or right.

"This is good and bad." I was simply pointing out that it can be bad. I know all about investing.

Hebrew is right to left so it isnt as easy as you think. Its only easy for languages that are left to right as I understand it.
