AppleCare is the one extended warranty that is ALWAYS worth it. Seriously. I'm not an apple emloyee, just a fanatic. Who has bought 3 machines with AppleCare, and each time saved at least twice the AC cost in repairs. Things like getting my powerbook's HD replaced because later models were much quieter. Getting 85% of the machine replaced two years into owning it due mainly to a dim screen and some power issues. With a little creative timing of repair requests, AppleCare is an AWESOME deal.

I may be wrong about this, and I realize 3rd partys need support more than the dems, but the dems suck a lot less ass than the current regime. Think about how bad things could get if bush acts like himself for the next four years.. with him knowing that this time, he actually got elected. He could easily declare all 3rd parties to be terrorist orgs or some other kind of crap. BTW, if you want to get people to vote for Aaron Russo, why not give a reason?

So I'm an American who also has noticed these problems. And I also strongly object to the political climate here. I want to go somewhere better, where intelligence, research, and science are promoted and respected, rather than being bashed over the head with consumerism at every turn. Any recommendations on where to go? Please explain your answers, I can't exactly try out each suggestion.
And btw, I can't afford to move for probably a couple of years. But I'm anxious to start planning it out. If America feels it must act like it is (electing morons, attacking helpless countries for resources, bullying the UN, ignoring treaties and the internat'l court, censoring tv and radio, declaring endless war on undefeatable concepts such as drugs and terrorism, etc..), where is a good, sane place to go?

  16. Sweet on For Sale: Lycos.com · · Score: -1, Offtopic

It's about time a mainstream site give some props to a business which, although offensive to some (in my experience, a small minority), are in my opinion at least, damn cool and deserving of more credit (especially considering it makes more money than industry x and y combined | x and y varying widely). This link turns out to be a decent portal site in and of itself. I don't know how it compares to it's competitors, I don't have time to do a study or anything, but I'm glad to see porn going more mainstream. If it were offensive to as many people as the news seems to imply, I don't think it would be making as much money as it is, tending to use the newest technologies first, etc.. This is a moment in history which frankly rocks. Long live Lycos.

BTW, I am not in the porn business nor a shill for them. I'm a fan who is damn sick of the prejudice I see in most of [american] media. They appear to be disproportionately influenced / controlled by a bunch of rather arrogant religious groups who act like porn is some huge evil destroyer of souls. If they can't handle it, they should avoid it. But many people can, and enjoy it, and there is nothing wrong with those people.

OMG this is so stupid. How fucking hard can it be to make a distributed database and client software to increment a couple hundred variables? You don't see these kind of problems with web polls. Sure there are different candidates in different elections, but if you split the problem along the lines of particular races, other than the shiny happy interface to use a snazzy hi-tech touch screen to touch the face of your fav candidate, it really comes down to a VERY simple database call to increment a count for each candidate. I could do this whole system with one single database table for results.

Seriously, I could put together a system to increment a couple hundred variables in non-realtime over a weekend reliably enough to stake my life on it's accuracy. Most of us could.

The classic example of stable, solid transactions would be the ATM machine. Maybe if some of the rocket scientists at Diebold would talk to someone who had actually worked on an ATM machine they would know how addition works in computers, even across globally distributes databases, and learn how to do things like paper receipts, reliable atomic transactions...

Huh? Diebold already makes ATMs? Oh..
