I have never even used a blue tooth enbable device. It all seemed a little flakey to me. Also I've had several friends on mac and windows say they simply couldn't get their device to work and if it did work it would crap out on them all the time.
I had a WD 30 gig drive that just up and died, refused to be recognised by the BIOS. Got a new one which of course is refurbished which started making all sorts of cliks and grinds and eventually just quit booting and refused to be recognised by the BIOS as well. So I just bought a brand new 40 gig Maxtor TODAY! It's too much trouble to cancel the order now, I just hope it doesn't go tits up!
Well I just entered my first top coder competition yesterday and it was a learning experience. I thought I did well until the challenge phase but got slammed on 2 of my 3 answers that had me in the top 3 places when i finished the coding phase. There is no time for comments, good coding practices, etc. Just get the problem done in the smalles amount of time possible. I agree with what someone else said this is great for diversionary fun but it doens't reflect real world programming practices at all.
Really did anyone expect anything else out of this case? Of course I'm biased *cough*paycheck*cough*. I didn't expecet anything less and eBay even makes you agree to the following when you sign up. I'm just glad no silliness happened and they were actually found liable.
8.1 Integrity. You may not take any actions that may undermine the integrity of the feedback system. We may limit the number of bids and listings you may place on the Site based upon the level of your feedback. If you earn a net feedback rating of -4 (minus four), your membership may be suspended, and you may be unable to list or bid.
8.2 Export. You acknowledge that your feedback consists of comments left by other users and a composite feedback number compiled by eBay, and that the composite number without the comments does not convey your full user profile. Because feedback ratings are not designed for any purpose other than for facilitating trading between eBay users, you agree that you shall not market or export your eBay feedback rating in any venue other than an eBay operated website.
8.3 Import. We do not provide you the technical ability to import feedback from other (non-eBay operated) websites to eBay because a composite number, without the corresponding feedback does not reflect your true online reputation within our community
Also the stock is down 1.3% to 94 bucks, good god that is amazing in these tech stock days of woe.
While this is interesing anyone notice how long the average CPU warranty is? I think most are around 90 days from the manufacturer. Your PC shop may give you longer but the actual hardware maker itself doesn't give you shit. So what are the odds of a fan dieing in 90 days anyway unless there's a serious defect to beging with. Also I think Intel says the same thing, certain modifications not approved by them will void your warranty.
That's strange, I worked for a telephone survey company while in college to pay the bills and 3 of the people sitting right next to me pulled the same stunt but only called about 3 times. About 45 minutes later the big wig came out and canned all 3 of them for pulling a bonehead stunt. Said the lady got pissed and called her local police who pulled the phone records and actually made a complaint.
This is no big suprise. MS has a big web presence with the MSN portal and if they want to expand into the search engine world Google is a competitor. Nothing strange or evil about that.
If they think they can do it better then google they should just write it and if its better people will use it.
Brewsters MillionsI loved this movie as a kid and think it's very underated. Who can forget him pitching his heat in the basebal game and having everyone knocked out of the ballpark.
I think they might switch to an x86 platform but it would be proprietary version just like they have now with Motorolla. I'm sure Intel would be glad to oblige them since they would be sending large amounts of cash their way. This way they could still make money of hardware and software and still be different.
You wouldn't happen to live in Utah would you?
Siegried and Jensen covers the back of every damn phone book in Utah. And the tv, newspaper, and radio ads.
I agree, My wife and I gave up our land line completely and now just use our cell phones. A new cell phone would be nice but I don't need to get one. My friend has this kick ass Samsung that I would love to get but I don't see it as keeping up with the Joneses.
I see them as just being so damn convienent that they are taking over the world. And even though I only use my cell phone to call people I still talk and interact with a large amount of people in my day. I don't think person to person communication is going to stop anytime soon. If you IM someone it's because they are too far away to have a normal conversation with anyway.
Even if you don't hurt the actual spammer you may bring the open relay problem to the attention of it's admin if it gets bogged down enough. Hopefully they will learn and turn of the open relay. You might not be able to actually hurt the spammer buy you may be able to limit his resources.

Windows Update Privacy Statement (Last Updated 10/15/2002)
Windows Update is committed to protecting your privacy. To provide you with the appropriate list of updates, Windows Update must collect a certain amount of configuration information from your computer. None of this configuration information can be used to identify you. This information includes:
Operating-system version number
Internet Explorer version number
Version numbers of other software for which Windows Update provides updates
Plug and Play ID numbers of hardware devices
Region and Language setting
The configuration information collected is used only to determine the appropriate updates and to generate aggregate statistics. Windows Update does not collect your name, address, e-mail address, or any other form of personally identifiable information.
Windows Update also collects the Product ID and Product Key to confirm that you are running a validly licensed copy of Windows. A validly licensed copy of Windows ensures that you will receive on-going updates from Windows Update. The Product ID and Product Key are not retained beyond the end of the Windows Update session.
To provide you with the best possible service, Windows Update also tracks and records how many unique machines visit its site and whether the download and installation of specific updates succeeded or failed. In order to do this, the Windows operating system generates a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) that is stored on your computer to uniquely identify it. The GUID does not contain any personally identifiable information and cannot be used to identify you. Windows Update records the GUID of the computer that attempted the download, the ID of the item that you attempted to download and install, and the configuration information listed above.
Based on this it would seem MS can indeed collect information on whatever they want from your HD, but supposedly it cannot be used to identify you. Well we'll see when the MIB come knocking at your door;)
This idea would be a nightmare to enfore for people like eBay and amazon. Not only do you have to deal with the 50 different sales taxes in each state you have to deal with international people as well. And who is going to be responsible for collecting the sales tax? The online retailer or in the case of eBay the seller of the item? This would require a significant change in infrastructure for all companies and would be a major pain in the ass. I hate sales tax anways and don't think it should be applied to online sales, it's way too much of a hassle.
They were talking about this on NPR the other day. Apparently it can burn right through your skin in a matter of seconds so it's quite caustic. However I don't think the whole damn shuttle is covered with the stuff after the explosion. Most likely they want to keep people away from the parts so that they can be kept as intact as possible.
It's so nice to see my POE benefitting humanity in such a good way. The weird shit I see pass through here everyday. Flying cars, frankenstein squirrels, there isn't anything some sucker won't buy or sell.
But really I think they want the buyer to be the one to suffer the consequences if the thing explodes in midair. And I've always wondered when I was going to get my flying car!
so it sounds software based, this will be cracked soon enough, if it hasn't been already! Someone with enough time on their hands will take care of it and then the rest of us lazy bastards can benefit from his/her work. Copy protection just annoys the user and doesn't actually keep the interested party from doing what they want with a CD,etc. When will the industry learn?
This doesn't seem all that out of place to me. Lindows never really seemed to have the true Linux spirit. I really wanted to try their product but not for $99, when I could have gotten a better but now defunct Mandrake distro for free. Of course this is taking for granted that the changes they made were terrible, but the article gives very little mention of what specific changes were made. Besides the change of the keynote speaker no mention is made of what other things were changed. For all I know they changed the break treats to peanuts from sweet rolls. Yeah it was dumb of Lindows to do this without any kind of forewarning, but to pull out of the conference completely? I think both parties are a bit at fault here.

You don't even need 6 monkeys to get some of the comments that you get here on slashdot.

why is that? This case is bullshit and as a Utah citizen the fucker gets whatever he deserves.

An LoTR RPG based on the style of Fallout or Arcanum would kick even more ass.

He's probably trying to short sell some apple stock he has borrowed.
