Just how many people *don't* run Quake? I don't use Windows, so I'd have to wait for a Linux client. But that won't do me much good either, as my box is a P120 with no 3D card. So I either spend lots of money I havent got, just to play a game, or I miss out. Miss out it is then.
I couldn't care less how Linux performs compared to NT, or any other OS. The simple fact of the matter is, I get far more work done in Linux than in Windows. I haven't tried any BSD's yet, purely through lack of time, but I would guess that the same rules would apply. For a programmer/sysadmin such as myself, the benefits of a Unix-like environment just beats the pants off NT. There's no way I'd use NT to do what I have to do. I'd go insane within two weeks...
There's been a lot of comments lately saying that Mozilla is dying, and in order to be "compatible" we should all start using IE. Even if a usable implementation of IE were available for Linux/BSD/whatever, would it be used? Possibly. But not by me. You see, compatibility is not one of my considerations. If I wanted to be compatible I wouldn't be running Linux would I? I'd be running what 90% of everyone else is running: Windows. I like being incompatible. And I will continue to use Netscape until Mozilla is usable. I don't care if its going to be compatible or not, since I live on that fringe of society which enjoys making life difficult for the norm. My web pages doesn't work in IE? Aaaw, well thats just tough mate.
With all the hype surrounding this company, they'd better come out with something pretty spectacular. If it isn't a supercomputer that will fit in a watch, run everything in my home and also walk the dog, then I'm afraid its no go...;)
I would have said a little more than that. I started on 16K, straight from Uni. Although I have a fair amount of experience in Unix. Maybe a Windows only techie wouldn't get quite so much. Not sure myself, as I never looked at any non-Unix jobs;)
I think that with the upcoming version of USB increasing speeds to need that of FireWire, its not going to make it. Only Apple seem to be supporting it in their machines, along with a few DV Camcorders etc.
Couldn't agree more. Fun though it is, you have to wonder what the point is. Once of the pictures mentions that the mains power sags up to 20%. How many tons of coal (or whatever is used to power the local power station) must be burnt to power this thing. I'm not a great lover of art, and I'm certainly not impressed with art that helps to ruin the environment...
You may be right. But I think it's only going to be a matter of time before something like this can be attibuted to spam. People kill for far less. Road rage is becoming more common. Why not spam rage? It annoys the hell out of me. Granted, I haven't killed anyone yet... but that doesn't mean I haven't wanted to get hold of the person who sends me spam and use their delicates for a bit of target practice...;)
Actually, it wasn't a troll attempt. I'm not bothered if Linux kernel version are reported here or not, they always appear on Freshmeat so I won't miss it. It was just a tongue in cheek remark really. Half the people on here want these reports, half don't. Ah well, can't please everyone, least of all AC's with an attitude.
Every culture has its unlucky numbers. If we started skipping numbers we'd just have to hava a major release every time, and large gaps. Something like Microsoft;)
Anyone know if gcc 2.95.1 is better or worse than egcs 1.1.2? I've been compiling my kernels with egcs for quite some time and have yet to come accross a problem, but I'd like to know if 2.95 is more likely to crash and burn.
Pah! Anyone can surf the information superhighway (dontcha just love that phrase). What we want to know is, can she whoop her royal subjects asses in a Quake deathmatch?;)
Songs of Distant Earth is my favourite for really hardcore hacking. Any of the Tubular Bells is also good. Having 16 of his albums I am kinda spoilt for choice though;)
I think that's probably just a reflection of Paxman's limited knowledge of comnputing in general. I would imagine this is possible pretty soon anyway, so Bill has a good point here.
Read the documention, moron. Oh, that's right you microsoft types *DON'T* know how to read,do you?
Who wants to read the documentation of every package just to figure out the version numbers? nd sweeping statements about "microsoft types" just makes you look even worse. I don't use windows, either at work or at home. I'm afraid it's you who's the moron my friend.
It gets confusing though. There are so many packages within Gnome, and many of them have different version numbers. What comprises Gnome? And what is it's version number? Hard questions to answer. Personally I don't bother and stay clear of it anyway;)
Or that BT, the (ex?)British State Teleco doesn't differentiate between local and long distance calls, so in effect all calls are long distance?
What the hell are you talking about?! We've always had local calls. Every time I dial into my ISP it's a local call. You should check the facts before making sweeping statements. Not that I'm defending BT. They still charge too much for piss poor service.

Can you imagine the slashdot effect thier web server(s) will see once they have some real content? They'd better be ready for one bumpy ride...

oops.. thats near, not need. Too early in the morning damnit ;)

How many of these SlugBots(tm) to you need for a huge field?
;)
Dunno, but by the time it'd had made its rounds, surely it would have flattened the crops anyway. Beats corn circles though
Ah, you mean those pretty graphics that reduce unit processing by 50%? I'll stick with my Linux client, thanks very much ;)

Please feel free to put all the "this isn't worthy news" under this thread. At least that way we can keep things tidy ;)

Oh, and your government behaves itself does it?
My, Mr. Clinton, what a big cigar you have...
All I can say to that is, Don't make me puke!

Maybe we can selectively breed out ignorance and first poster attitudes ;)
